Anyone have anything regarding availability of the 6-sp GT?

Right now it's considered to be a late release. Early G8 GTs will only be six-speed automatics. Right now it's anticipated that the manuals won't be available until mid-2008.

Anyone have the real skinny on the manual transmission. Ive been reading on some websites that the Manual is no longer an option even later in the year. I read that the manual option would not have had the Cylinder Deactivation feature, and as such, would have gotten WORSE mileage than the automatic, and would have been subject to a gas guzzler tax. Any truth to any of this??

I can't say for certain but I don't think that AFM/DoD has anything to do with what type of transmission (auto/manual) the car has. Fact is though that manuals do have a harder time with emissions then auto's for some reason.

The MT article with the engineering ride along said that the manual would not have AFM - I assume its more difficult to control/program.

Not really, I doubt that a manual will make the difference. AFM is based on engine RPMs holding constant without strain: hence it does not matter what gear you would even be in, its about RPM. I think if you are above a certain RPM or if there is downshifting (which would increase RPM) thats when the DOD snaps everything back to 8 cylinders.

I don't know why everyone is worried about DoD, I'm planning to leave it on. I probably will be running a turbo setup, which means I might need to set it to reduce boost if the DoD kicks on, but then again if half the cylinders shut off that means boost would be excessive, I think the wastegate will just open and keep the turbo from spooling to high.

I say that because Honda's I4 engines have been using cylinder deactivation since the early 90s, and no one has ever had a problem with that as they bolted on a turbo.

In what respect? Power? Fuel Economy? or what? Manuals almost always return BETTER fuel economy than automatics...however in this case if the manual does not have AFM, it will NOT get better mileage. I'm not sure what your point is.

I think he meant with regards to why the manual vehicles will not come equipped with AFM.
