: just installed rotofab CAI and HSRK
lsp408 07-26-2008, 12:11 AM i got the package from vector today. the whole installation was very easy. the only thing i had some hard time was the HSRK. by HSRK i mean the rubber groumet. that was hardest for me. but the finish product was amazing. this kit is well design and the instruction is a little too helpful. but you never know when that extra information comes handy. here are some pic i took.
GRRRR8 07-26-2008, 07:26 AM Time to do the GRRRR8 mods!
JJD3rd 07-26-2008, 07:37 AM No problem with fitment with the HSRK with the rotofab? How's it sound? Any noticeable differences for you personally?
GXPaycheck 07-26-2008, 10:10 AM Did ya use the corvette grommet? What size drill bit?

HSRK was not the problem. the problem i ran into is trying to get the rubber in the hole so i can put IAT sensor into the rubber then also make sure its tight.
It sounds amazing!!! when under more than half throttle and of course WOT.
i do feel the car throttle response is little faster. combine with noticeable sound (louder), i feel faster too.

i used grommet i think it suppose for firewall or something. i did tried to find one from dealer and advance auto, no luck. i went to dealer ask for IAT sensor grommet for 02 camaro ss and he told me no part number list for it. and advance guy told me go to dealer for the item i am looking for. so i just end up got one (1/2" inner diameter) grommet from my friend's race junk drawer (i think the grommet come different sizes in the package you can get at race shop)
I just used 1/2" bit first then uni-bit til the grommet will fit in the hole nice and tight. then little KY to get sensor into the hole.

Heat Soak Reduction Kit
just curious , what roughly are the gains you guys see from CAI on the G8. I'm thinking of getting a G8 for my next car. I'm more familiar with the EVOs which get about 10 - 30 WHP from drop in filter (10-30) or CAI (20-30), though those things run super rich to start.

Shhhhh, hear that?
There's a train a'comin'...
We're about to be told...

LMAO!
catch22 07-30-2008, 01:00 PM You guys have heat soak issues like we do in the GTOs?
Cripes! I'm beginning to think it's the bended tubing in the intake charge. Vettes and the older LS1 F-body cars had a straight intake system that seemed to flow quite a bit better (well, air hates to change direction).
But I don't know of them having so many heat soak problems. It's a pretty big issue on the GTOs.
Though I found with an LPE intake (looks exactly like what you have pictured here) my ambients were better. The box is just no good. With an IAT relocation I'd be in even better shape, but I just haven't done that yet.
BY the way, question: On your G8s... is that assembly in front of the throttle body just sound deadening? It looks like a big resonator box. If so the power gain just with this mod would be pretty nice, because resonators are big piles of chit.

LMFAO
so it's not just a bolt on? Drilling is required?

For the HSRK? Yes, one hole drilled in plastic.

Yup no way to do a true bolt on when relocating that sensor.

but with the amount of efford you put in and the huge result you get, i think its worth it!!!

Yes its for killing the sound. With the stock intake and exhaust you forget the car is even running.

Theres a thread with a dyno on the rotofab. I think is was 8 whp or something. With a tune it was on the order of 35 whp. I may be off, run a search.

I ordered grommet 42058 for your HSRK. My RotoFab intake will be here on MON. Is it safe to put some kind of lube on the inside of the grommet to make the sensor slide in ??? I tried to test fit it but it seems like it will take a lot of force to push the sensor in the grommet. I don't want to break the sensor by forcing it too hard when I actually install it.
wreckwriter 07-31-2008, 03:36 PM I used a tiny bit of WD40 inside the grommet, VERY little. I then started the sensor into the grommet, just a little. Then I installed the grommet into the hole and pushed the sensor the rest of the way in.
ps- if thats the Help! brand grommet I would trim the part that will go inside the intake a bit. If you don't your sensor won't be far into the airstream. Read this thread for details: http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3929&highlight=airstream There is a better grommet available, GM part number within that thread..
edmanet 07-31-2008, 06:18 PM Thanks I ordered the gm grommet. It should arrive about the same time as my intake.

You'll be happy. Perfect fit, no trimming needed. The hole you need to drill is .700, bit less then 3/4. I used a borrowed custom bit so not sure best size commercial bit, should be easy enough to figure out.
tntempest 08-18-2008, 02:52 PM I have 4 of the gm grommets for sale see my ad in the for sale section, why VMS cannot include this part I have no idea as I consider it mandatory.

Yeah they heat soak, maybe not as bad.
24504388 is the GM grommet to use.
Is anyone on here soldering the Omega Thermistor in the IAT?

Because if you are installing the HSRK in a NEP CAI, you wouldn't use any grommet.
