: Wheel hop in rain?

Okay, its raining here today and I was stopped by a trafic light. So I turned off TC to take off while spinning the tires a little. The road had good traction but was soaking wet and I didn't nail it but instead just gave it just enough to spin. When I did the whole car bounced violently down the street.

Was this wheel hop or just the point of traction catching and slipping? :dunno:

I have turned off TC before in dry conditions and spun them at a light before without this happening.

Ideas?

Don't spin 'em a little, spin 'em a lot! :)

True, but in my z28 I could control spinning them from a stop and slowly get up to speed sideways! :) People next to me would freak out but I'd crab it in the rain. Too much stick for the G8 I guess.

The soft bushings in the rear may be the cause. I wonder if the folks who have replace them with the harder Pedders bushings will have that issue...

My Firebird Formula is like your Z: WAY too fun in the rain! Wheelspin/drifting in the wet is very controllable. Makes one feel like a pro. Can't believe I've never been busted.

After our tune we've actually experienced wheel hop on the dyno! Pretty violent actually, we hope to be able to offer solutions to this soon!

:driving: Ha ha, good times! I miss the fun, it didn't take much to get her sideways.

Cool. My first experience with wheel hop. Kinda scary!

Wow, I'll bet that's scary. "Hope those straps hold!"

We were trying to do 1/4 mile simulations and normally its not an issue, we got the stock one done no problem went to do the tuned one and man it was like a jackhammer; obviously we lifted and never tried that again!

I once saw a guy perform clutch dump "burn-out" on a rusty six cylinder '65 Mustang. It started wheelhopping so bad I could see the chassis flex each time it hopped; then BOOM! Coolant spilled out everwhere.
Upon examination, the rear leaf spring mounts all broke loose from the body enabling the entire driveline to leap foward, tearing the motor mounts in half and sending the fan into the radiator. It was the funniest thing I'd seen in a long time...

Good times....

FWIW, my stone stock car wheel-hopped at the drag strip (dry conditions) but my tire pressure was 3 psi above the recommended psi. I lowered it back to spec (although this was admittedly with a hot tire) and had no more wheel hop.

I suggest you check your rear tire pressure. Overinflated tires + IRS can make for pretty bad wheel hop. So can a magnacharger + IRS!!!

what should the psi be in the 19 inch tires?

40 frt 37 rear

for the track you mean, cause the pressure in the door jamb sticker is the other way around...more in the rears, less in front.weird if ya ask me,yours sounds better

Federal law requires the sticker to show specs for max load.

The cars were tested at 37 frt and 39 rear. DO NOT go by sticker on the door itis a MINIMUM psi. Always look at the side wall for max psi. th erule of thumb is within 10%. After chalking tires and testing 40-41 and 37-38 rear.
