How does the trunk hinge in the G8/VE Commodore? Will it have the gas struts or is it the old-fashioned style where the bars go down into the trunk?
I've seen quite a few new cars use the old fashioned (space robbing) design and hope that the G8 has the gas struts to save space in the trunk.
I searched for pictures on the web and Holden's site, but came up empty. Does anybody have an open trunk picture?

I don't remember where , but I saw pictures of the trunk hinges with struts yesterday.
I cant remember where but i saw a pic of the commodore trunk and it hinges from the side like a gas strut hood. Im not actually sure if it was a strut or just some type of hinge.

"The boot of the VE Commodore has a more expensive hydraulic strut hinge system instead of the cheap lever-arm system that could foul on luggage in the boot."

I had created a thread and there was another photo but I'm not sure what happened to it.

Nice, thanks! Glad to see the gas struts in there. Doesn't look like the rear seats fold down, but they give you a good-sized pass through to compensate.

I like the gas strut much better.
I think that's where the battery is stored and not a pass through. As usual, I could be wrong.

The battery is on the side at the rear of the car. It has a pass through.
Holden have a stronger gas strut available for those who fit the sv6 or ss commodore spoiler.
Just a reminder so nobody will get a trunk lid crunching their skull from the extra weight.

So true. I added a Saleen urethane spoiler to my Mustang GT and removed the fiberglass stock rear wing... the poor little gas struts could hardly take it! I had to physically lift the trunk until it got into the locked position where it would stay on its own.
The addition of that spoiler resulted in a couple nearly cracked skulls and a squished finger or two!
