: Race questions????

I am taking my G8 to the track for the first time tomorrow. I just wanted to know what everyone was doing to launch them? I am pretty familiar with my car. This isn't the first time going to the track as I have another car that I race. The hiccup in the car really bothers me and I was just curious as to how people where launching and what mode they are in? Any advice is going to help.

I avoid the waterbox, don't do a burnout and stage right until I see the second set of lights. Footbrake the car around 1100 or higher depending on how well the track is hooking and let off when it's time to scoot. I keep the shift lever in Sport mode. Lowest 60' on the stock 19's was a 2.05. Have fun.

I know not to go in the water box. I am just worried about when I do shift it hitting the rev limiter, I am going to try the car out in all modes just to see what I like. Anyone else feel free to give me a little advice.

Just leave it in sport mode, let the TCM shift it. Turn traction control off. Lots of folks advise launching from idle rather than powerbraking it but try it both ways if its just a test and tune night. If its brackets for money leave from idle every time for consistency. Leave on the first glimpse of the last yellow. Best luck!

Yea thanks man, getting out of the hole is my biggest worry. I like launching at idle, I am not really big on power breaking. I will let everyone know how I did when I get back. It is just a test n tune night so I am just gonna play and see what I can get from her. Like I said this isn't the first time racing for me but it is for the G8. I have a supercharged car that use to be my race car but know she is my show car.

Leave it in sport mode, then when you're going over 80 mph "downshift" to keep the car in S3 (avoids a needless shift into S4 right at the end of the track).

I was a complete rookie when I went to the track for the first time a few weeks ago. I found it very easy to launch this car. I would footbrake to only about 900 rpm and then slam the gas when the last yellow light lit up. Never had to worry about traction (and I had the traction control off.

If you really want the best run possible and are comfortable with the way the trans works you should go in sport mode but once you hit about 85 mph in 3rd gear pull the shifter back once (request a downshift). At that speed it will not downshift but should hold 3rd through the lights.

I haven't taken mine to the track yet, its "under renovation" but this what I've picked up reading the experiences of others who have.

try just launching from idle. thats what has worked best for me with auto trans cars. i did the whole launch thing trying to find one that worked for a good year or two, car ran good, but once i tried just leaving off idle, i was much more satisfied with my results.

yea, me too. Hopefully not too much longer. Its a bit over 50 miles from me but the only other option is a new 1/8 mile in Miami. i'm really not into 1/8 miles.

Hey wreck and atlas, Morosso is about an hour and maybe 15 minutes from me, after it opens back up and when you guys decide to go let me know. I'd like to test mine out as well and see some fellow G8ers

I thought i read someplace here if you leave it in sport mode, and launch the vehicle, the tranny goes into manual mode 1 and stays there till you shift it manually shift into 2...than 3..etc......

I tried this experiment when i original read the post and sure nuff. So i don't think you want it in sport mode for a launch...

Try it just to be on the safe side first.

^mine doesnt do that... just dont hit the shifter up or down once its in sport mode, as that is the only way to activate manual mode...

3rd gear is good for 108 MPH+ with the 19" tires.

Well blow me down and paint me pretty in pink on a Sunday afternoon. Just went out, tossed it into Sport mode, both hands on the wheel and nailed it like she was gonna get raped by that ape.

Went into M1 all by itself and pegged the limiter....

Sounds like i need a tune, suspension, exhaust and some other stuff huh....
