So how much meat can one expect to run out front and back? I know I heard the updated IRS has more room out back which is great, but what about up front?

No more strut rub I hope :shiner:

The strut problem, as I've heard, is non-existent so no worries.

A shop on ls1.com.au have 295/30/19's on the back of the Commodore VE SS, I don't think 305's would be a problem either.

Even HSV is running P275/35R19 tires on their GTS & Clubsports on the rear. Fronts are still P245, but many GTO owners went wider all around. I agree that 305s should fit on the rear.

Damn a 305 rear tire would be sick as hell!! This car just keeps getting me more and more excited.

If the GXP will outperform my Goat and run 275 front/305 rear, I may have to trade up in a few years....

Boy, the G8 would look mean as hell with some 305's in the rear. I really can't wait.

The rubber band tire look isn't for me. But, I'm impressed with the size options.

As i was checking out some pics of the Wortec VxR8 show car, it looked like the back tire is a 305! Here is a pic, see if you can tell what size it is. This link has the original pictures.

They come stock with 275/30/20, notice the second number of the width doesnt look like a 7, and the first number of the width looks like the same number as the first number of the aspet ratio which equates to 305/30zr20.

I know this does relate to the suspension but shouldn't this be in wheels/tires?

I haven't heard of anything over 295 going on a VE yet. The problem you get if you go wider at the back is you can't rotate your tyres from front to back and vice versa.

I went for 255/35/20 all round so I could rotate them front to back. Also my spare is the same size....

I wondered how it got in this section as well. The mods should move it.

Staggered wheels is the norm in the US on most rwd cars. If 295's fit w/o modifications im sure people will go wider with rolled fenders.

I would love to throw a set of 295, 305 or 315s on this thing. It would bring back memories of my Mustang days when you could run 315s without rolling any fenders :)

Hell i had to SQUEEZE 235's on the back of my prelude. As much as i love fat rears this is going to be the perfect car!

Road racers count tires as part of suspension. Drag racers tend to count tires and wheels as an item that bolts to the drive train.

No offense, I am sure this post will get clipped when I someday confess to post whoring.

New guy, here, from the Milwaukee, WI area. If it helps at all, my experience on my 2005 Infiniti G35 Coupe that has corner-specific wheels/tires and that I'll be saying goodbye to when the lease expires in Aug, is that tire rotation is really not practical on a high performance rear drive car, anyway, because the rears will wear at a higher rate than the fronts and you'd be making your life miserable moving those tired 'meats' to the front. Note: No, it's not the same as having shaved tires.
Even though my 2000 Camaro SS / Auto had the stock 17X9 / 275's at all four corners, the rears were also devoured at a much higher rate than the fronts, even with the traction control on.
Your thoughts?

Steve, the point is to rotate the tires front to back at about the time the rears are halfway worn out, then by the time the rotated set is worn out in the rear, its about time to replace all 4. This keeps the wear pattern more even between the whole set. fronts tend to round off the outside corners and rears just wear out the whole thing

That said, none of my RWD CARS have had problems with vastly un-even wear on any of the tires in 30k mile replacement intervals. I always seem to have a tire go down with a nail, screw, or some other road crap before that happens. I do dis-mount and remount them from right to left at 10k mile intervals. (right front to left front, etc)

My trucks, on the other hand, seem to eat fronts worse than rears, especially the 4wds. Most likely because of the CG and the stiffness level I like my suspension to be at. same-size replacement for them being my daily drivers make more sense to me. Plus, if i need more traction I just drop it in 4wd. :bubbrubb:
