Anrosphynx 06-24-2011, 01:57 PM Interesting, and it has the newer center console unit.
terryscott621 06-24-2011, 03:09 PM Fugly!!!
jackalope 06-24-2011, 04:03 PM Link to Chriswell is now blank and a quick phone call and I was told they have 4 left!
HELLO, GM ARE YOU F__KING LISTENING!!!???
colby1035 06-24-2011, 09:20 PM Since when did police vehicles come with chrome packages (see red car in article). Looks like it came as a public sale car. Just makes me wonder if we will start seeing a lot more of these????
The Yeti 06-24-2011, 11:30 PM It is an ugly car, but for what it is it is a great value on a proven platform.

I agree, I bet it wouldn't be to hard to make it look better though. Just a creative mind.

Canadarob 06-25-2011, 09:19 AM What happened to "not available for civilian sale"??

That would Be a very expensive conversion cause no panels are the same.
lvgmman 06-26-2011, 12:09 AM there are 13 lucky people out there for now, they are in the most exclusive club. but those things are going to be at auction some day after the police are done with them and will be littered throughout every ghetto in the US. IMO Fugly is the best word to describe those. i hope they don't sell them to consumers without a major fascia update. i highly doubt they will sell well with the current styling. IMO Consumer sales will be limited to retirement community's probably as a buick... just like the stigma with the police interceptor (crown vic)/mercury Grand Marquis.
just my opinion the styling SUCKS!!! GM please don't screw this up. Make it work, sell it to cops for now in 2 years make look as fast as it is (rather than a commuter to and from the bingo hall) and then sell it to the public. show that a GM RWD V8 sedan can sell. Even the forever doomed Chrysler was able to sell 300's and chargers w/ V8s.
It's crazy a corporation once known for the birth of the muscle car (66 GTO) can't continually screw this up so badly. The Caprice PPV is a good attempt but IMO doesn't have a chance a getting 18-40yo to buy it with the current styling.
I love my G8 and love the idea of the Caprice, but for the police the Statesmen is the right car. For Consumers in the USA the Commodore is the only one that will sell to their target audience.
Any Aussies on here? I am just guessing that the Statesmen sells to an older group of people. The statesmen is just a refined commodore. Today aggressive styling is selling cars i.e, camaro, challenger, CTS, even the Taurus to some extent. let me know if i am crazy i am curious to see if i am correct in saying that old people drive the statesmen.
ALL ITEMS ABOVE ARE MY OPINION AND ARE NOT BASED ON ANY FACTS SO PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME FOR IT .
Thank you.
zepcom 06-26-2011, 01:20 AM Thanks to Jalopnik and the dealership finding a small and now patched "loophole in the wording on the contract" ... these 13 cars are probably unicorns that may be plagued with registration and/or insurance problems, if they ever made it for final paperwork in the first place.
With Jalopnik picking up the story, no doubt it went viral, which got GM to notice. I wonder if intermixed within that dealerships many many many phone calls that day, they got one from someone high up the food chain in GM that maybe threatned legal action or whatnot.
Those cars are totally gone from the online website now.
We'll have to see if we see ~ 13 new threads in the upcoming weeks, "hey everyone, I don't have a g8 but I have it's FUGLY brother that I bought from this dealership......" LOL :drink:
The car has potential, but not in it's current "looks" department. I'm kinda glad that this first round will NOT be really available to the general public.
And after these cars get to auction, after being beat on 20+ hours per day through normal LEP duties (no offense to LEP intended!) ... it would be interesting to see what's still working and/or what issues and history these "blues brothers police auction cars" really had over their Service Lifetime.
"Its got cop tires, .... " :)
Pontiac G8 Man 06-26-2011, 05:53 AM Does anyone have photos of the 2011 Chevy PPV in civilian trim...?
DaMaine1 06-26-2011, 07:12 AM So once again GM is NOT LISTENING! You put out a fugly cop car and the public wants to buy it?! But due to your heads being up your azz you ignore the interest? If I were president (of GM that is) I would immediately get the team to rush a consumer version to market, market the hell out of it as "Now you have a fighting chance" and watch the sales rack up. All they have to do is raid the parts bin at Holden and voilą HAPPY US customers. Damn it GM take a cue from Nike and Just Do it!
Pontiac G8 Man 06-26-2011, 07:32 AM All we can hope for is the VE Series 3 Commodore to come back as the 2013 Chevrolet SS. GM should know it needs a V8 RWD Sedan under $35K...!
esswun 07-18-2011, 09:55 AM Give this a good looking body kit like the G8 and I agree, they'd sell very well. It's ok for a police car but that Carbon Motors thing is way better.
Pontiac G8 Man 07-18-2011, 10:16 AM Does anyone have a photo of the interior of the civilian Caprice PPV...?

http://www.chevroletcapriceppv.com/pdfs/Caprice-Vehicle-Brochure.pdf
(right-click, save as. This is a PDF from the capriceppv website)
There are several updated and current interior (shifter, etc) pictures in that PDF document.
bracketracer 07-18-2011, 01:35 PM I am kicking myself for not getting more pictures of the Caprice PPV that I saw while in Bowling Green, KY last weekend. I guy who transports vehicles for GM was on his way thru delivering the car to a police agency in South Carolina. His daily driver is a G8 GT, and he said that despite the larger size, and lower rated HP, he feels that it is more powerful than his G8. The car already had blue & red LEDs mounted under the deck-lid, and they came on when you pop the trunk. It was amazing how much bigger the interior is. It should make a great police vehicle. The looks, although not awful, are nowhere near as nice as the G8 though.
GrandWag&G8 07-18-2011, 05:04 PM You thought finding parts for our cars were tough, I'd hate to be looking for parts for a 2012 Chevrolet Caprice in a couple years. If I bought one I'd stick it in the garage (which is what I hope these lucky 13 did).
TCorzett 07-18-2011, 08:51 PM I was at the dealer looking for some parts and got caught-up talking about the PPV. Sounds like a couple of the (police owned) vehicles are in the Bay Area (Danville and San Ramon). I asked about ordering parts from the PPV and it sounds like it wouldn't be a problem, other than a few of the "special police calibrated" components (instrument cluster, etc.).
-Todd...
SPDMETL 07-18-2011, 08:56 PM I'd drive that...and love it ! No; it's not nearly as pretty as a G8, but like someone said, the only other choice is a CTS-V. Admittedly an awesome car, but by the time a big dude adjusts the seat, the backseat is good for a briefcase, child, or amputee.
I sure hope GM did it like they did it so as to create demand-there's a reason people buy those German cars.
slowride454 07-18-2011, 09:16 PM I like the rubber trunk floor and the mount for firearms.
RatedGXPG8 07-18-2011, 11:26 PM Great story Joe. I also would have loved to see the pics of that ride... Check out my web site if you like old classics palmbeachauction.com
Hopefully one day we will have a fleet of G8 GT and GXP for sale... Thanks !
esswun 07-19-2011, 03:13 PM Saw one on the road today. There's a Chevy dealership in town that is also the biggest fleet dealer and sells police vehicles for the entire state.
So anyway this black one pulls out in front of me and the guy floors it. Obviously it's fast so I punch it to catch up and get a look. Not much else you can't see from the pics that have already been posted. The back end is very Impala looking and the front isn't very cool but the stance of the car was unmistakable the moment I saw it pull out of the lot. It had black steelies and no special lights that I could see. There was a regular looking window sticker on it but I guess even contract fleet vehicles would have that right?
We were going around a nice twisty section of road in a commercial area and there was a slow as hell truck in head of him. I was following closely behind and you could tell he was irritated at not being able to open it up very much. When we got to the next turn and clear of impeding vehicles he took off. I caught up to him at a light and was going to roll down window and ask him about it but it turned green too fast.
I got ahead of him pretty quickly this time and he got in the turn lane for a car wash place. I thought about pulling in after him to talk about it and check it out but the heat index is like 100 right now and frankly I didn't want to get out of my car lol.
The whole time I was behind him he didn't really look at me, nor when I got up beside him. I don't know what this guy's position is at the Chevy dealership but I wonder if he even knew what I was driving and that it was basically the same ride.
Oh, and according to their site it's only $25.6K (http://www.shaheenlansing.com/Shaheen-State-of-Michigan-Fleet-Contract)
AL@G8R 07-19-2011, 07:39 PM Is Stryker Blue available?:drink:
I'm sure Corrections and other law enforcement agencies (Maybe even town/village/city municipal officials) can have at the PPV...:pir_flag:

+ 1
mrbirdman330 07-20-2011, 01:21 PM The problem with this is still the auto companies ''Telling us what we want'' rather than us telling them.
scorpio ps 08-01-2011, 11:55 AM Looks like it would make a nice rental car. Its not a G8 though.
Has anyone seen HSV W427 Replica Wheels...?
Have you noticed yet that people aren't inclined to answer this question as you post it over and over again in unrelated threads?
Pontiac G8 Man 09-10-2011, 11:04 AM Sorry... I have not been able to find any information on the W427 Replica Wheels and most of the members in this thread are very helpful and friendly. I am sorry to inconvenience you with my question.

Seven identical posts in different threads from different sections is not a good way to get your answer.
Please stop spamming the forum.

Troutman 09-10-2011, 06:28 PM Some interesting comments regarding the styling of the Caprice. I think it would be much fairer to judge the car based on the original version rather than a multicoloured or stripped-out fleet special. In Australia it's generally regarded as one of the most attractive domestic cars in recent history. [I know, I know, citation needed. I had one but I can't find it right now :D]
Here's a cheesy video Holden put together for those who haven't seen the real thing.

Bold - Pics? :pir_flag:
This looks to be another rare offering sourced from Holden.
Although it's a distant cousin of the G8, it's soul is in the right place.
Pontiac G8 Man 09-10-2011, 06:34 PM Thanks for the video link...!
lvgmman 09-10-2011, 06:34 PM it's a stretched commodore. i.e. a huge car made longer. i think it just loses all it's sporty looks making it longer something about the front end is just ugly to me. the aussie version def. looks better. on a side note is it just me or is that a Holdillac (half cadillac half holden) badge at the 1 min mark??
just like in the US a cadillac CTS looks sporty and cool, an STS looks ok and you can see the CTS lines in it but something just wasn't right. that's why you don't see them in the GM lineup anymore.
Troutman 09-10-2011, 06:34 PM There's lots of pics on my thread matey.

Indeed.
It looks like I missed that one.
Thanks for sharing and make yourself at home. :)

Not feeling it at all...
Richard Craneum 09-11-2011, 10:39 AM Bad idea...
To me seems that Holden is getting ready for the US market (just slap a bow tie and call the day) by GM mandate. Is the only place that I know the cars are huge and full of stuff.
The Commodore is big enough as is.
Have GM ever heard the saying "Do not *uck with the original"?

I'll give that a plus one. The last thing we want is a larger G8. It does not need to be bigger.
Cornercarver82 09-28-2011, 10:36 AM I think it's ok looking, not my cup of tea but theey moved the front signal lights to the top of the headlight housing the rounded the corners
