: Can stock 19's be painted?
drglock 08-04-2008, 03:22 PM Just curious if anyone has done this or if anyone knows if it could be done. I love the look of the stock 19" rims, but really want them in black. I have not been able to find anything like them in black, so I was wondering if it is reasonable to consider having them painted black? I just want to make sure that they are professionally done, look great and will last a while. Anyone here have any stories or opinions they would share about painting the rims?
Killawhale89 08-04-2008, 03:24 PM Cant go wrong with powdercoating
4gasem 08-04-2008, 03:25 PM It's been done and talked about here. You'll want to powder coat them and to do so you'll have to remove the tires and have the wheels bead blasted and then you can have them coated. It'll work and look great.
I would say it should be 75-100 bucks a wheel but a guy here had them done for almost nothing.
drglock 08-04-2008, 03:45 PM Awesome, thanks. Ya, I noticed the post after I made mine. They look good. I am going for the same look, want the black (or graphite looking) rims and dual black stripes on my IOM GT, I think that would look awesome. A little more sporty and unique. Ill post pics when this is done. Anyone know a good painter in the Chicago area that would do a nice job on the rims?
mikemaj82 08-04-2008, 04:27 PM that'll probably look sweet!

baabootoo 08-04-2008, 07:39 PM Gun metal grey, with a polished edge.
locrzng888 08-04-2008, 08:08 PM Make sure the powdercoater clear coats the wheel also. That will protect from chipping the base powder he has applied.
g8lady 08-06-2008, 05:57 PM Yes a guy comes around here and does them. Boy I really wanted pink but my bro said no way lol. So I went with the Bose but I still want pink :(

Any chance you could get me a name and a number? I would like to call this person. And I think pink would look hot! (But not if it was your husbands ride! :)
g8lady 08-06-2008, 07:20 PM Yep. I will ask my co-worker when I get in Sat and post it.

VENOM 08-07-2008, 11:58 AM sorry, not a fan of the "i never wash my wheels and they are full on brake dust" look. A guy at my work has a 3 series BMW and wheels are black......because its all brake dust. Thats what wheels look like to me when they are flat/gloss black. But whatever floats your boat, your ride.

Yeah but you need to realize that BMW uses a very "dirty" pad for their brakes. They work great but create a lot of dust. Not sure why by my parents have three new bimmers and all three do it. Dads isn't bad as it's an SMG so he down shifts but he complains about moms X5 as she hammers the brakes. :(
VENOM 08-07-2008, 01:37 PM i use the manuel mode to slow the car down and save the brakes and creates less brake dust
g8lady 08-08-2008, 09:44 AM don't gasp, but black.

Sooooo - you'd rather put additional stress and wear on an $5000 transmission and $10,000 engine than wear a set of $100 pads too much? :slap:
As for BMW using pads that dust a lot, it's true. But, that's because they stick high-performance pads on there. Dust is not a direct measure of stopping power and resistance to fade, but there is a high correllation.
VENOM 08-08-2008, 11:08 AM lol im not going from 100 to 0. like around town say 40 mph. i dont abuse the car by any means. its all good.
