: Drop Springs Installed
RumblingG8 08-07-2008, 08:51 PM Got the 2954/2955 springs installed the other day and really like the stance of the car now. Can't say I can tell any difference in the handling but I didn't buy the dampers, bushings, strut mounts or anything...just the springs. These pics probably aren't as good looking as they could be as my driveway has some slope to it but here they are. The drop ended up about 12mm in the front and 30 - 34mm in the rear. I have 20" wheels with 35mm offset and there is no rubbing so far. The shop that installed did put about a -.25 camber on the rear but I am going to grind down the back edge of the fenders a little to be sure I do not ruin a tire.

JusticePete 08-07-2008, 09:02 PM That is NASTY! We appreciate you choosing Pedders for your G8. Welcome to the Pedders Nation!
asylum 08-07-2008, 09:04 PM i gotta find someone in Australia that deals with Breyton!
that looks awesome, hows the ride?

I would say a little firmer but not rough at all. I am already wanting to add more Pedders.
Mach 5 08-07-2008, 10:21 PM The wheels and stance are very, very NICE!
tgb321 08-07-2008, 11:20 PM I love it, beautiful congrats.
I hate you.
That was exactly what I was going to do...
Ah well I have a new diresction so...
Mr. Sandog 08-07-2008, 11:41 PM That is the best looking G8 I've seen so far. Gorgeous!
G8 Ray 08-08-2008, 06:10 AM Great looking stance. Congrats!
Fantastic looking. I was interested to see if those wheels and tires would clear with the dropped suspension. Damn, that looks great!!! 10+
4gasem 08-08-2008, 08:21 AM I agree! You're a dick!:whine:
LOL
Flipping B-E-A-utiful! I LOVE the wheels and the drop!
Jealous! :(
foreosu 08-08-2008, 08:24 AM Gotta agree with everyone else. Drop dead gorgeous.
G8Smitty 08-08-2008, 09:12 AM Very nice! It is surprising how much better that ride height looks over stock.
G8Smitty 08-08-2008, 09:16 AM I have two questions if you don't mind.
At that height, do you have to be much more careful about pulling into parking spots? Mine seems pretty close everywhere I go. I've been afraid to look into springs because I know I'll bend the nose if it is much lower.
Did you use anyone special around town for the install?
Rob@WretchedMS 08-08-2008, 09:29 AM As Pete said, welcome to the PEDDERS Nation!

I am definitely going to have to be careful pulling up to curbs and parking lot stops. I had Don Freely Auto Clinic do the install. I priced it several places and they were all about the same, $300 to $400. Don Freely is a Pedder dealer, and only three blocks from where I work in OP, so I figured they would know best what they were doing plus they could have rolled the fenders if necessary and knew enough to be able to put the negative camber in the rear without going too far and screwing up my tires. I am very happy with everything, just wish I had bought the strut mounts and done that at the same time...probably would not have cost any more money since they had everything apart anyway.
mj_duell 08-08-2008, 11:17 AM Gorgeous! I have her twin. Wish I had pictures of her. Don’t ya just love Black and lowered with Breytons!
G8Smitty 08-08-2008, 11:31 AM If you have time, can you put together a before and after picture post? I'm really on the fence about wanting to lower mine, but it is difficult to tell what the difference will be. I would greatly appreciate it. --Chris
mj_duell 08-08-2008, 11:33 AM If RumblingG8 doesn't mind me posting on his thread I do have some good before pictures.
Hey RumblingG8, are you going to do a big brake kit next? I am seriously considering it.
--Mike
Mr. Sandog 08-08-2008, 11:55 AM I have to say it again, this car is absolutely gorgeous. Do you happen to have any higher resolution pictures? I'd really like to see the detail....something like 1600x1200 or even 1280x1024. I want to see more!
JoeBMX 08-08-2008, 01:49 PM Ohhh man - I registered to say that looking at these pic's makes me wanna do bad things... So nice!!
Only thing I might add would be wheel spacers to push those wheels even with the fenders.
Rob@WretchedMS 08-08-2008, 02:04 PM If you push them out anymore they will hit the fenders,
Heracles 08-08-2008, 02:05 PM :driving:
Sweetness.
JoeBMX 08-08-2008, 02:51 PM Fender rolling? From the few pictures posted, the rears look to be pretty tucked in there.
TBH - I've not had the chance to get a close up in person of the wells themselves, but if it's possible, it'd just add to the  factor.
Regardless, it still looks awesome, and makes me contemplate purchasing a G8 over GTO!! :)

Feel free to post pics...other than the background scenery, it is almost impossible to tell the difference in our cars. Brake kit I hadn't considered but I was thinking about painting the calipers red. I had red on my GTO so I got used to seeing it. A little flash of color in the wheels like that might look good, maybe?
Here is a before/after I have access to here at work:
Before

After

RumblingG8 08-08-2008, 03:57 PM I forgot to mention that I had four passengers today going to lunch, one in front and three guys in the back seat, and there was no rubbing at all. I didn't drive crazy or anything but was still surprised. I may not mess with the rear fenders after all.
G8Smitty 08-08-2008, 04:12 PM Wow, that is strange. If you look at the distance that it was lowered between the two pictures, it is not that noticeable. But the after photo looks so much nicer. It is more aggressive looking. Excellent work, I’m very impressed.
Thanks for the comparison photos.
NIevo 08-08-2008, 04:21 PM Can't really notice the front but the back is definitely lower, looks amazing!
+1 on some high-res shots.
LasT_ResorT_G8 08-08-2008, 06:16 PM Looking good man looking good... but try doing some hard wot launches just to see how far down the back drops... or if it drops at all... again it looks awesome i'll definitely be making that my first suspension upgrade. +++1
JusticePete 08-08-2008, 06:59 PM The difference is most apparent when you pull the two cars nose to nose.

Great angle! The amount of lowering and those Breytons really look good on the G8!!
Have you had any clearance issues pulling in or out of parking lots? The reason I ask is that when (if ever) the GXP's come out I'm going to consider lowering pretty much the amount that you have and I don't want to do it if it causes scraping or clearance issues.
Thanks.
*edit* How does it ride too? The G8 GT has a nice smooth ride from the factory and that appeals to me.
mj_duell 08-12-2008, 08:18 AM Are you worried about the tires hitting the rear fender lip? I have the same exact set-up and I have yet to hit a pot hole or big dip, but I am almost sure the fender will touch the tire. What do you think?
--Mike
Stingpac 08-12-2008, 09:08 AM Excellent choice in wheels ... Congratulations .!
tgb321 08-12-2008, 09:33 AM It's amazing how the right springs can make a car look so much better.

The offset on your wheels pushes them out quite a bit. You are thisclose to rubbing. Roll them.

May have to do that. I haven't hit them yet, but i can see it happening. I do love the look though, I wish I had pictures like RumblingG8.
RumblingG8, do you have your rear lips rolled?

I haven't rolled anything yet but have thought about doing some grinding. I had my GTO fenders ground and really liked that better than rolling. I have heard of a lot of people rolling fenders and cracking paint. The shop that installed the springs put a little negative camber on the rear so they actually clear very well. I worry about the front more than the rear as there is no fender rolling that will help that. I have hit a bump or two and heard a loud noise in the front but not sure what it was and do not see any visible marks on the tires that indicate they hit anything. Should have done the dampers and strut mounts in front at the same time to give it some extra stiffness.
I do not know how to get high res photos to you. I have photobucket but have the free one and it converts everything to 800x600. All the pics you see were taken with a Canon Rebel XTi so they are huge photos. Let me know what I need to do to get the high res and I will.
mj_duell 08-13-2008, 07:08 AM I think I'm going to have them trimmed rather than rolling them. More than one person has suggested that. I haven't hit yet, but I know it's a matter of time. I'll just look at your photobucket pictures, the ones you have posted here are great too. I need to take some and post them as well.

Yes, I like the idea of trimming or grinding the fenders rather than rolling. You just have to be careful not to get to far in to the welds so you don't break the inner and outer panels apart.
I emailed some hi-res photos to a guy who pm'd me that he would post them if I sent them to him.
Rob@WretchedMS 08-13-2008, 10:38 AM Rolling them is what i'd prefer, it's a bit harder to do, and might cost a bit more, but the added rigidity with the extra laters of metal, and the fact that if the tire does come in contact with it, rolled will not cut a tire, cut fenders will.

If I can wait I may have stop by and have you do that ;). The move to CT is on, matter of fact I will be there on Friday to look for a house around Avon or Simsbury. You guys are not that far of a drive. I believe your shop will be my new mod home soon. Sorry I couldn't get there sooner but life and time got in the way.

Rob@WretchedMS 08-13-2008, 11:54 AM ya, life can be a bitch, lol
I'll be at he shop all day on Friday, and i'll have a GTO or two there too.
Rob@WretchedMS 08-13-2008, 12:10 PM Actually, i should have a G8 here too.
mj_duell 08-13-2008, 12:12 PM Actually, i should have a G8 here too.
We'll see what happens. I'm there for three days so I will try to make time. I won't have the G8 for that trip.

Rob@WretchedMS 08-13-2008, 12:22 PM what will you be driving?
mj_duell 08-13-2008, 12:28 PM what will you be driving?
Wife's Cadillac SRX Sport. Ugly as hell but not bad for driving long distances.
Rob@WretchedMS 08-13-2008, 12:35 PM lol, i kinda like them

GM's glorified return of the station wagon ;) At least it has some guts. Moves nice and even has an automanual, not that I've tried it out yet. One thing I will say though, most comfortable seats in any car I have ever driven.

Mine will be rolled.

Ewing 09-20-2008, 08:21 AM Hey Rumbling any update on whether you've had to roll your fenders or not? Or have you still not had any rubbing?
RumblingG8 09-20-2008, 12:48 PM Hey Rumbling any update on whether you've had to roll your fenders or not? Or have you still not had any rubbing?
No rubbing in the rear at all. I am getting some bangs in the front on bumps and think I really need to buy the front dampers, strut mounts and bearings and get them installed. I think that will fix it although there are no marks on the front tires or fender lips that indicate they hit anything.
locrzng888 09-20-2008, 03:00 PM Good looking ride. The drop looks awsome with the wheel package.
Jacure 09-21-2008, 01:56 PM mf,i gotta clean my screen now, cause of your car. :)how much dem breytons run you?
