: best times of the night
manator 08-08-2008, 08:29 AM im totally new to the track scene so i'll only mention my best runs. #1 R/T .304 , 1/8 9.269 @ 78.21 mph, 1/4 14.206 @100.49. #2 R/T .111, 1/8 9.333 @ 78.12 mph, 1/4 14.27 @99.94. i was surprised to see a slower 1/4 with a faster R/T in 2nd run. must have been a heat soak issue that i keep hearing you all talk about. if i could have put the best R/T with the speed of #1 it might have gotten under 14.0. not bad for a rookie. btw i turned off the stab. con. to heat the tires and turned it back on before my runs. power braked at full throttle and then just timed the light.
foreosu 08-08-2008, 08:33 AM Nice runs. Assuming that it was pretty hot and humid down there in the land of Elvis, those are good times.
BTW - reaction time does not affect your ET (clock doesn't start until your car moves across the sensor). RT only matters when racing head to head with the guy next to you.
wreckwriter 08-08-2008, 08:35 AM RT has nothing to do with ET. The time starts when you break the beams, not when the green light comes on.
Personally I find that traction control off, punch it from idle in sport mode seems to yield the best results. No burnout needed on street tires. A/c off is very important too if you didn't think of that (most tracks will tell you to turn it off to keep condenser run-off off the track).
manator 08-08-2008, 08:40 AM thanx for the info. like i said im new to this

Not a problem. :)
manator 08-08-2008, 09:33 AM why didn't i get closer to the 13.7 that this car is suppose to get. does heat make that much of a diff.?
foreosu 08-08-2008, 09:36 AM I'm also very much a rookie to drag racing (went for my first time about 3 weeks ago), but from what I've read and understand, heat/humidity is a huge factor in it. Guys I were talking to at the track were telling me that my 14.2 runs would equate out to about a 13.7 or 13.8 come this fall when it cools down into the 60s in the evenings.
Not sure how accurate it is, but I know I'm anxious to find out first hand!
TexasG8 08-08-2008, 11:19 AM Most important is your 60' time.
What was it?
Atlas 08-08-2008, 11:30 AM what was the DA??? if you dont know, give me the track elevation, the temp when you ran, the pressure and humidity... give me those and i will tell you what your corrected time is...
Blackbirdws6 08-08-2008, 11:45 AM why didn't i get closer to the 13.7 that this car is suppose to get. does heat make that much of a diff.?
Lots of factors can add or shave tenths. Weather, racetrack location and altitude relative to sea level, track prep, and of course...your driving. There are more but those are basic.
Its best to go on a cooler day than a hotter day and make sure to give proper cool down in between runs. If you are at a track with a high altitude, the air is thinner so your times will be slower.
I think you did pretty good for your first time out. Tell us your 60' times and the track elevation to let us help you further.
wreckwriter 08-08-2008, 12:00 PM Here's a couple neat toys:

TexasG8 08-08-2008, 12:32 PM A good 1.9 60' with some cooler weather will get you really close to that 13.7.
Atlas 08-08-2008, 12:32 PM your DA was 1972... best pass corrects to 13.897@102.771 using the NHRA correction chart... btw the dragstip in memphis is 273 ft above sea level...

Atlas, how are you getting the altitude?
Atlas 08-08-2008, 01:05 PM got the weather stats from memphis off of weatherchannel.com, searched for "altitude memphis motorsports park" on google, plugged it all in, got 1972...

Gotcha. Thought maybe you had something special, list of track altitudes or something.
thanks
Atlas 08-08-2008, 01:08 PM i did find a list on google one time, but i didn't bookmark it... hopefully i will stumble across it again...
