Who's already planning to convert their G8 back to the good ol' Holden look?

Nah....I have 2 GTOs. That will do fine for awhile, I think. Besides, I really don't like 4 doors.

I seriously hope not... otherwise I guess I'd have to wait for a vendor to make some nicer ones... either that or if GM puts different style lights on different trim levels.

The G8 has the same body changes the Monaro recieved to be come the GTO - a new fascia and hood. Making it back into a Commodore SS-V wouldn't be a hard affair. The devil is in the details, which most haven't bothered to do except for HRJ.

The G8 and Commodore SS-V have the same tails. The Calais-V and SS have different tails that could be swapped.

I'm willing to bet that the GT models will have the same tails as the SS-V, just like the show car and the V-6 models will get the standard Commodore tails.

I'm my opinion the Calais-V tails look pretty sweet and would go well with a dark colored car.

Commodore SV6 = G8 V6, Commodore SS-V = G8 GT

If you like the plainer red lamps you can always swap with a G8 V6 or get the more stylish ones off the Calais-V.

I really like the Pontiac front end but the GTS front end is even better. I don't know if it's worth the money to change it over though.

So do you guys think the G8 will come without the hood scoops and the GT will get the scoops? I'm not digging the scoops that much. I think it would look better without.

I think a SS-V front/hood swap would be an option, but wouldn't be cheap.

I'm betting only the GT will get the scoops standard but they'll possibly be an option on the V6.

To be honest, I dont dislike the G8 enough to spend the thousands of dollars to convert it back to a Holden- I actually like the G8 just as much. The only thing I would consider changing are the rear taillights, but that swap coule be done with a V6 G8 buyer.

Also another thing to be careful of and something that I experienced with my Legacy- it might not be a simple front clip swap. The bumpers for the Japan and Oz versions of the Legacy were different than the bumpers we got in the States (read, smaller). In order to convert a Legacy to a Japan front end, you had to modify the bumper bar underneath the front clip in order for it to fit and in doing so, you change the US bumper regulation compromising any insurance claims if you were to get in an accident.

Food for thought.

The G8 and Commodore SS-V have the same tails. The Calais-V and SS have different tails that could be swapped.

The Calais and Calais-V have a different sized tail light to the SS and SS-V. They drop down further into the rear bar, which is also different, so to put Calais or Calais-V lights into a G8, you would need to change the rear bar also.

Too bad we would have to change the hood too in order to complete the conversion, since the front part of the hood has cut outs for the Pontiac Kidney grills.

BTW, that photochop is pure sex.

That's because front plate is required for the whole country there. Makes sense to have it built in....

Here on the other hand, only some states require both front and rear, so what would the other non-front plate states do, They would need a fill panel like the C5, 4th gen firebird, grand prix, etc...

So instead they give us an afterthought front plate bracket where required and screw up the front bumper :cursin:

If you want all red lenses, the V6 G8 will have them so you might not even have to import them from Oz.

i'd keep her Pontiac trimmed out. both looks are nice, but i'd keep it Pontiac. the Commodore version is more aggressive looking, however.

The thought of doing a conversion is apealing, but it would definitly depend on the cost. I love the Holden logo, and I generally find the Commodore styling a bit more agressive, but I think the Pontiac look is quite nice as well.

Now, if I could do a full conversion and get vanity places that said just "64" I think I'd be in nerd heaven.

I for one will be making that change. Did not do the goat. I just don't care for the symmetry in the G8 front. The Commodore has a better fascia layout IMO.

I just want it to look like an HSV GTS... that car is hot shI#! i'm so tired of the pontiac fronts.. at least on the Goat they're smaller and rounded, the g8 looks too pronounced... i so love the GTS tail lights and spoiler... i want either an IBM like my goat with glue interior... or i was even thinking a black with two tone white black leather interior... lets see what we get here.

If commodore ones are wanted/needed then add $690.00 for the pair and about $1500.00 for the SSV projector lamps

From the photos I have seen the pre-production G8's that are in the U.S. have projector headlamps.

That would depend on how it was shipped. But, since the G8 isnt due out for some time it would be a good idea to order now and use the slower /cheaper methods to ship the parts.

From the photos I have seen the pre-production G8's that are in the U.S. have projector headlamps.

If this is the case then that just cut the cost of the conversion significantly.....I doubt the G8 lamps would be physically different like the gto lamps were.

i live in a state at the moment where the front plate is required and i never get hassled about not having mine on. when i ordered the cars i asked them not to drill the holes so it wouldnt mess up the front bumper. ill take my chances like i always have, and order mine and demand no holes to be drilled for the bracket.

Good solution for those who have to run front plates.

http://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=950

And I believe this is a homemade one that is controlled from inside the car:

Thanks for the info. I am wondering if there may be some hidden details that may be missed.

- I will not need the grill emblem.
- The fog lamp relay is different than the G8?
- SS headlamp switch is different than the G8 lamp switch?

The standard Commodore SS stuff huh. 8-10 weeks shipping?

So where may I ask does one go about ordering these parts? Because I think I may take the plunge with the SS-V front end conversion.

Also, on a side note. Is it possible to order these parts factory painted ?

The headlamps are identical to the Commodore. The Monaro started with rounded inner headlamp corners and later adopted the sharper corners used on the GTO when the VZ debuted.
