Anyone have a definitive date on bluetooth in the 09s? I heard mid-year or have they moved it back to 2010?

Just wandering...Why pay 1300 more for an '09 when a bluetooth from JHP is much cheaper?

Just a thought!

Cheers!

Price on the 09 V6 is cheaper than the JHP option. $400 for XM and BT is worth it to me. That plus I'm not ready to buy yet. Will wait for 09 rebates to hit.
2008: MSRP 30665
2009: MSRP 31065

There still has yet to be a G8 with Bluetooth sold, or made for that matter.

The 2009 G8 should have an interim introduction of Bluetooth capability.

The Owner's Manual reflects that not all 2009 G8s will have it. That is why the Bluetooth section is only for cars equipped with it.

Current 09's don't have bluetooth even though it's in the manual. I anticipate that it's either left over as you said or in anticipation of the inclusion of it later this model year.

Current owners are going to have to choose one of the following to get bluetooth:
1. Add-on independent component.
2. "Hope" for an upgrade option from service dept. Don't think this is likely and would likely require purchase/replacement of a lot of expensive components.
3. JHP kit.
4. Replacement stereo head unit. With the integrated A/C controls it may be difficult to find something that will do this. Best hope is the Azentek Atlas for which they are using the G8 as a demo car. But at ~$2500 when it's released, it's by no means a cheap way.

Cheap it is not, but with all the features it offers, it is well worth it IMO. I can't wait for it to come out, and am very hopeful they make it work on the G8.

I just found out today that the bluetooth, that my dealer informed me would be installed on my 09, does not exist. I was waiting for the dealership to open to get my tranny updated and tried to program the bluetooth for the first time. I reported the malfunction to the service department and they informed me that it was not installed.

I contacted the salesman and he agreed that he remembered that the list of options when he ordered the car listed bluetooth.

He informed me that I should call the GM customer service and make a formal complaint. He is going to contact his GM Rep. next week.

The price of 09's went up a considerable amount compared to the 08's and for what? I know XM does not cost that much or was it that much of an engineering change to not install the battery and oil pressure gages and replace them with, OH, NOTHING.

How does GM justify that much of price increase for adding XM and a reduction in production for the gages.

I think we all need to jump on the formal complaint band wagon.

GM never promised bluetooth in the car. They are not going to do anything about it. It's not on your window sticker and manual specifically says "for vehicles equipped with one"

Most of us knew, grudgingly, that the 09s were not going to have Bluetooth until MY 2009.5. I got mine anyway so I really have no complaint. This goes for the 2way key fob omission as well.

Which is none so it should not be in the manual. A little disappointed I was when I tried to pair my phone only to be met with "Thank you Goodbye" LOL

I'm not sure about other GM cars. The reply I got back from GM said it is not available yet. I had another source inform me that it has to do with the contract with OnStar. OnStar wants us to use their service for phone calls. Obviously GM has figured out how to make it work or they would not have prematurely put the instructions in the owner's manual. OZ does not have OnStar so it is not an issue with them.In any GM product or are they just talking G8? Why the heck do they even talk about it in the Manual then????

i live in Virginia, if I take any type of company to court, they MUST be representd by counsel, which means it will be cheaper for them to pay me than to represent themselves....in the end, it will cost me $36.00 to take the dealer and PONTIAC to court, well worth the risk. I may do so next week when i have some time....

Ok apparently you didn't read the links. I was saying good luck, b/c I doubt you will win considering the way it is worded in the manual. If it was actually listed on the Window Sticker then you might have a better chance. But, it's your time and money so have fun, and if you win then you can come back and rub it in my face.

The recent law school grad working for the firm on GM's retainer that handles Virginia will introduce the following as exhibit #1 and #2.

The first printing of the 2009 G8 Owner's Manual states; "This manual describes features that may or may not be on your specific vehicle." and in the Bluetooth section states "Vehicles with a Bluetooth system.......".

It also includes this; "GM reserves the right to make changes after that time without further notice.".

The Getting to Know Your 2009 G8 booklet states; "Note that your vehicle may not include all the features described in this booklet" and in the Bluetooth section states "Bluetooth System (if equipped)".

The judge will notice that no where does either of the manuals say that the G8 has Bluetooth.

And you will have received your $36 worth of time.

no it does not
and all you're saying :bs: i cant pick better word for it ....
and you can't take GM to court for $36
plus, GM has rights to counter claim you in court for all the fees accrued
in addition, the car sells by the window sticker and it has no indication of bluetooth.

You are being flamed because you are stating a ridiculous idea that is based on the false claim that the manual states BT is included in the car. Are you going to sue them for mentioning a manual transmission could be in our vehicle?
You will be flamed if you post stupid ideas on the site.

I wanted to hold out for a retrofit, but decided not to wait. Chances are, the cost would be high for the kit, plus installation. But, since no one anywhere (dealer or otherwise) has a clue about BT in the G8 (is it coming, is there a retro kit, etc.), I decided to buy an aftermarket kit and go with it. I'm betting that this was the cheaper route to go than getting the retro kit (if it even becomes available).

It would have been really nice to be able to use the steering wheel controls to use BT. But, it's no big deal pressing the answer and hang up buttons where I had the Parrot control mounted.

Being a factory item and dealer installed, I was guessing that if a retro kit was made available, it would probably run between $400-$500 after all was said and done. Just a guess, of course. I could be wrong.

I was just getting tired of looking like a dork with my BT earpiece or fumbling with the wired handsfree or missing calls because I couldn't hear the phone over the radio. And since it has been illegal in CA to use your phone without a handsfree, I just didn't want to wait.

Since the Bluetooth functionality is integrated into the Onstar system and dealers are only permitted to replace Onstar control units if the car is in an accident or if it displays a broken error code, I am going to assume that there is no 'legitimate' way to get an 09 retrofitted to have the functionality. That being said, I would be VERY happy to be wrong since I would like to use it in mine.

I am hoping someone can help. I have a new bluetooth box that has been reprogrammed for my car's VIN number from Chris at Sellers. Does anyone know how to install and what kind of antenae I will need? Thank you!!!!

The onstar box is inside the trunk, on the left side of the car. Crawl into the trunk on your back with a flashlight and "un-clip" the plastic carrier of the old onstar box to let it hang down.

Now with new onstar/bt box in-hand, transfer over the two wire-packs and re-install the new BT box in the opposite way that you removed the old one, so it hangs via the plastic "Carrier" from the rear deck metal of the trunk.

As far as the BT antenna, see this post (http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?p=678154#post678154). They sell them on ebay, and I think GTPPrix sells them also. Should have asked for one from him when he was programming your BT! :slap:

Once you get your BT antenna installed, and your new onstar box is ready to be set up, here's the procedure for getting started (http://www.g8board.com/forums/showpost.php?p=589347&postcount=7).

Good luck!
