: Anyone using HP Tuners yet? Lets compare notes...
BoostedGTA 08-10-2008, 05:13 PM Just had a buddy of mine come by with his new G8 GT and wanted me to tune it for him since I have HP Tuners. I removed torque management and raised the shift points, but did not feel as dramatic as I had hoped (when I removed TM on my GTO it was night & day difference and made the 1-2 shift extremely violent with fish-tailing).
I also tried raising the timing 3 degrees but he only had regular gas in it, so it knocked. I set it back to stock timing and told him if he wanted to run more that he would need to first fill up with 93 octane.
Just curious of other's results...
Thanks!
HANNlBAL KING 09-24-2008, 09:11 AM I would like to see what others are doing as well. It looks like there are quite a bit of gains to be had from adding some timing and removing TM

What was the stock timing set to? I have a VMS ECM and at 1900 RPM my DashHawk shows 38 degrees.

The timing table varies across the board. At WOT above 3500rpm I believe the stock table is set for 17 or so degrees, but I'm not totally sure, I would have to look at it again.
Norm8332 09-26-2008, 12:57 PM I raised the Sport Mode part throttle shift speeds (MPH) to make it hold gear longer. Also reduced Base desired shift times by .1 sec. Much Better. I turned off TQ reduction for power downshifts only and now it kicks down faster.
Advanced the timing only about 1 deg. in all key areas in the table. No KR detected. I'm running 93. Going for more.
g8_795 09-26-2008, 01:11 PM I think I am convinced to go with HPTuners. Are you guys using the WB O2 sensors? If so, which one? Before or after the cats?
Thanks for any insight.

not yet, but i'm about to buy. i've been looking at a lot of different ones. first i liked the Innovate, then i liked the PLX Devices. AEM makes one. theres a lot. I think i'm going to go with Innovates XD-16 kit. either way, you're going to hear good and bad for all brands. like the PLX Devices o2 sensor doesn't require any calibrating, but from what it looks like their sensor is the most inconsistent...

mount before the cats if you can. cats can throw off your readings slightly if mounted after.
MtbDoc 09-30-2008, 04:22 AM I just picked up my G8 last night, and already have HPT license on my GTO. Time to add this license, I guess! Then again, I'll have to learn more (than simply using it to reflash...although I look for all the help anyone will offer!). The tune StreetTuna provided w/ the GenTT was superb in the goat.
johnh 10-02-2008, 08:26 AM Just got my 09 GT last night, and I have a license slot on my HPT. I will probably pull the tune today....
Anyone have any notes on what to tune just yet? There's a few obvious things--timing +3* (now use premium), fuel (leaning it a tad), AFM TP% to keep it engaged longer, Raise Shift points a touch (~150 rpm) maybe only in sport mode.
I don't want to completely disable TQM, just reduce it...there's ton of tranny params. I'd really like to to be able to Brake torque past 1500 rpms.
johnh 10-06-2008, 03:34 PM Anyone else with HPT and 09?
Anyone have any issues *reading* the PCM/TCM? I did a read, it read the PCM then the TCM, but then it kinda freaked out the Info Center, stability control off and essentially the TCM seemed to be not responding...
I re-read it, no TCM connect.
Good for me that, after shutting the car off, opening the door (cutting any retained power) and restarting, everything was normal...
EDIT: A few other posts on HPT Forum.

when you read the computer, its fine when the car goes crazy like that in the info center (mine does the same). it should read the PCM first, may have a delay between, then it will finish reading the TCM.

Yep it did all that, but afterwards it didn't recover back to normal...although I think you need to turn off engine, open the door and wait a bit, then start. Probably the PCM/TCM needs to reset.

ya, i always turn off the ignition after a read/write, wait about 30 secs, then start it back up.
i do remember reading my car for the first time. after i read the file, i had no control over the traction control button on the dash. it just always stayed 'off' so i unplugged the battery for a few mins and it fixed the problem.
MtbDoc 10-06-2008, 08:02 PM I eagerly await the wisdom of experienced tuners as far as good, basic tweaks w/ this car. It appears to have the hardware for a LOT more power...the canned tunes + intake looks pretty impressive thus far. I assume that those of you with this talent can do similar things.
