: so the 1/4 question arises...
chill 10-16-2007, 10:13 PM been doing alot of reading on holdens ls1 site and im trying to get an idea of how the g8gt will perform in m6 fashion. what are your impressions from doing research on how these vehicles will run stock... with cai, tune, exhaust... ect...
curious to see where everyone stands on this issue.
from what ive gathered, i think a mid 13 second pass inbetween 105-108 would be acceptable stock(2.1-2.4 60's)
and maybe a low 13 second pass with tune exhaust and cai. of course then i would like to believe the traps may rise to 110 or over.
anyone else have a solid opinion?
chrish
SpeedKingZR1 10-16-2007, 11:51 PM Easy mid to high 12's with a CAI, Exh. and tune... and good driving.. :)
Mike P 10-17-2007, 02:07 AM Here is some information on the 1/4 mile times of the VE Commodore. If this is true, this car is fast in stock trim and with a CAI & Tune and with or without exhaust mods this car could be 13 flat......

....
rayainsw 10-17-2007, 06:19 AM I did a similar comparison a while back – though I am only interested in the automatic version ( bursitis ) of the G8 V8:
“0-60 in the low 5s” - Pontiac
Hmmmm. . .
Looking at some other sedans with similar weight & HP and also recording “low 5s”, I see quarter mile numbers in the high 13s at 103 \ 104.
The 550i C+D test last Fall shows 13.7 at 104 – with a 6 speed automatic. On a day when they recorded an M45 Sport at 14.5 @ 100. And that is the slowest ( least quick ) time I ever recall seeing for the M45 - certainly since the initial flurry of tests at the Infiniti’s introduction time . . .
And R&T tested the 545i at 13.7 \ 104 & 0 – 60 in 5.2 in June 2005.
Looking at the weights, the final drive ratios & the gearing in the six speed automatics of the 545i\550i & G8 ( I will not be buying an Manual 6 speed ) I had fearlessly predicted [ ?? ] that the G8 V8 w/automatic will be just under 14 seconds in the quarter – and 0 to 60 in the mid-5s.
Now I will ( cautiously ) hope for the low 5s and something like 13.6 – at 104-ish, for the automatic. The manual could be a bit quicker.
If the G8 GT actually achieves mid-13s at well over 100 when independent tests are published.
And if the dynamics are as predicted by various tests of the Holden versions.
And if the 6L80 receives the same upgrades that the 2008 Corvette & Caddy STS have reportedly undergone. ( I drive a 2007 Vette with this trans. )
And if the ‘real world’ fuel mileage is reasonable.
And if the fit & finish of production examples is excellent.
Etc.
Then the G8 GT will be on my short list – next year.

Always planning ahead . . .
chill 10-17-2007, 10:34 AM very good insight ray... it is very hard to just go by books and magazines bc i used to work for infiniti for many years, and when the new m45s came out they swore up and down that the new m's were quicker than the last. however from driving them daily like i did, the older ones were in fact much quicker.
like ive said ive done alot of research on holdens site, i just didnt know how to directly compare those numbers to the g8.
keep em coming guys/girls ;)
pinski 10-17-2007, 11:02 AM For the automatic, I would anticipate a showroom stock time of about 13.7@105-ish. The manual will probably only be a tick faster, if that, and run 13.5@106-ish.
I think anything more might be a little hopeful, this thing is going to be pretty substantial in the weight department.

From a Motor Trend Test of a 2003 M45:
Acceleration M45
0-30 mph 2.1
0-40 mph 3.2
0-50 mph 4.3
0-60 mph 5.8
0-70 mph 7.6
0-80 mph 9.8
0-90 mph 12.1
0-100 mph 15.8
1/4 mile, sec @ mph 14.40 @ 96.3
From R&T – again a 2003 M45:
“Consider, for example, accelerating the M45 from a standstill to 60 mph in a quick 6.1 seconds and seeing the quarter-mile marker flash past at 96.8 mph in 14.6 sec. (at a test track, of course, for where else are there quarter-mile markers?).”
Test of a ‘new generation’ M45 by Motor Trend:
Acceleration to mph
0-30 2.0 sec
0-40 3.1
0-50 4.3
0-60 5.7
0-70 7.5
0-80 9.6
0-90 11.8
0-100 15.1
Passing 45-65 mph 2.9
1/4 mile 14.1 sec @ 98.8 mph
Test of a new gen. M45 by R&T:
“The stopwatch shows 0 to 60 mph taking 5.3 sec. and the quarter mile 13.8 sec. (at 101.4 mph”
To me, 3 or 4 tenths ( or a half second or more) in 0 – 60 and in the Quarter Mile are significant – and the new M45 shows as quicker in every test I can recall, compared with the previous version.
And I am hoping that the G8 V8 will be both quicker than the current M45 ** AND ** provide better real world highway fuel mileage.
OLD_GOAT 10-17-2007, 10:46 PM According to Pontiac pamphlets, the 2005 GTO supposedly ran an "immediate 13.0" in the quarter mile.
Being real active on the ls1gto.com board, I can tell you that it took a really good driver with great air to get these times. The average time for us regular Joes to turn the quarter was 13.5 or so. So just because some pamphlet or some magazine states a 13.3 @ 108 doesn't mean we can get the same times.
At 400 hp it took drag radials, a tune, CAI (highly over rated imho), exhaust cutouts, and good weather to get right close to a 12.999. The second round of mods found long tube headers, and a 3200 stall to get into the 12.3's, and great weather and track conditions got me into the 12.teens. Just remember that the G8 is about 40 hp shy of the GTO and probably weighs a little more. My race weight of the GTO was right at 3920 pounds.
I highly doubt that any G8 gets into the 12's with just a tune, CAI, and catback.
chill 10-17-2007, 11:10 PM thats exactly what i meant, the mags are numbers yes, but far from exacts. thats why ive been doing alot of reasearch on holdens site (ls1.com.au) in order to come up with some idea of what these cars should/could do. anyone else have any ideas? i like to see where everyones opinions are coming from and how you are coming up with them. of course this all comes down to what kind of driver you are, and how you drive your vehicle.

Not only that, but track conditions/prep, wind direction, altitude, humidity, and temp. can make up to a .4 second difference.
Most people want absolutes, but racing has too many variables.
