: Will the GTO Community Embrace the G8 Community?

And vice-versa?

At this point, I know it's all speculation, but the G8 and VE Commodore have gotten a very warm reception at LS1GTO.com. However, there never seemed to be too much love for the Grand Prix, G6, even Solstice from GTO and F-body owners.

I think it'll be interesting to witness, and I really hope everybody just joins together in a big happy family, because over the last couple years I've really grown fond of the GTO community, and the kinship therein.

I would hope so. The G8 is based on the Holden VE Commodore, which is the successor to the VZ commodore/monaro which the GTO was based on. So if you think about it, the G8 is essentially a 4 door replacement for the GTO.

Alot of GTO owners have been impressed with the build quality of their Australian built cars and the interior of the GTO, although some say it looks dated, is lightyears ahead of anything else GM offers in the U.S. and I can't imagine the G8's interior will fall short. Even though it is a completely different car on a new platform I think others, besides myself, will find the G8 to be a nice replacement for their GTOs.

Everyone in the GTO club here in Oklahoma knows I'm trading my 04 GTO in for a G8 when they come out and haven't said anything bad about it yet. Then again, our last club meeting had 2 Evos and a M3 show up and everyone had fun and noone cared.

I would think so. At least one quarter (estimate based on names from LS1gto) of us here own, owned, or leased one (a GTO).....

The Grand Prix community doesn't even embrace the Grand Prix. (laughing)

It does seem that other than the subforum of ClubGP that every other G8 forum was started by GTO owners. Not haveing ever even had a version one GTO I sometimes feel like I'm on the outside looking in when it comes to horsepower wars - but I need a fast four door sedan (although the w. saw a G6 cnvertible Sunday she thought was sweet). It comes down to Accord/TL , Altima/Maxima, G35, CTS, G6GXP or G8, although a Quattroporte or XK-F would loook fine in the garage as well. Moneywise either Pontiac is a sure bet at the bank. And either will leave the others in the dust.

And I don't blame them. Every group has it's bad eggs... but it seems like Grand Prixs have some special characters behind the wheels.

i think they will come around when the g8 comes out and is a great success. the holden and gto community have always been a very civil minded and friendly crew. i just hope it doesent turn out to be like svtperformance, even me owning a cobra wasnt enough on that site lol

I think the 2004-2007 GTO owners will feel a kinship to the new G8 owners. I tell you what, my GTO was one hell of a car. It came fully loaded, and the blue leather interior was off the hook. In 17 months of ownership, I never had a problem outside of a bad o2 sensor, which was replaced with no difficulties, even though the car had headers and an aftermarket CAI.

I made at least 100 passes in the quarter mile and she ran great from the first run to the last run.

It takes an owner of a Holden or a GTO to really appreciate how good these Australian cars are.

Most likely. Anyone that owns/owned a GTO will love anything Holden. I know the day I had to get rid of my goat was a sad day. Now I'm in a position to get into a G8 in the next 2 years. I can't wait.

Lots of names from ls1gto.com here. We're all Holden fans for the most part so it's no surprise there's a big interest in the G8 from the GTO community. Many of us are looking to trade for or add the G8.

I'm sure the GTO community will welcome the G8 fanatics. The GTO owners know how good things from :quoties:down under:quoties: are & will find the G8 no different. You don't need to be an owner to be a supporter.

They don't?

I was a Grand Prix owner? Several as a matter of fact. I loved that car, particularly my last one, a '99 GTP.

I also loved and embraced my Z28, as well as my GTO.

Many former Grand Prix owners are also current GTO owners!
