And they keep stating that it's the same powerplant as the Vette. Same displacement, yes, same engine, no. Vette-LS2(well through 07) G8-L76

And they screw up again stating that the V6 will only be available with the 6speed auto.

At least Edmunds has a quote from a (unnammed) GM Powertrain spokesperson.

Ultimately, time will tell.

However, for me no manual means no purchase.

And that pretty much says it all for me, too.

Guess I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up even half as high as I did......

If only. At least it's a 5 and not a 4. Oh for the days of simplified 2 speed PowerGlide. Just GO and GO FASTER.

The strange thing is, everyone at pontiac has always said it would be a mid-late model year introduction of the 6 speed manual. Not sure how this is "news" anymore hehe

Agreed, but that would have been a mid-late introduction for the 2008 model, and since the automatic should be out in about 3 months or so, I'd have expected the 6MT in summer (say six months after).

But since the 6MT won't be available until the 2009 model year, and judging how model years worked for the GTO (and appear to be working for the G8), that probably means a January 2009 introduction.

So, that moves the 6MT availability out from about 9 months to more like 15 months.

Of course, maybe by that time, all the dealer markup BS will have settled down, and it will be possible to get a 6MT model for a reasonable price. ;)

Last I heard it was late 08MY for the MN6, then again 99% of the magazines are retarded when it comes to future platforms anyhow lol

Someone here *cough* knows more than just what the mags tell us. Pontiac could just as well start selling '09 models in August. Especially if there are no major changes for the Commodore between G8 production schedules.

Oh they'll sell '09s in August, what they could do and won't is sell '09s in April or May, or earlier, completely skipping the '08 MY. They don't do half years like they used to either. Remember the Mustang started as a 64 1/2 in April of 1964. And Chevy delayed genII Camaro for half a year in 1970.

There is Federal law regulating how long you can sell a model year for, although it is longer than 12 months. I remember it being a big deal when Ford came out with the previous generation F-Series in the mid-90s.

The way I understand it is what ever model is sold in January is the model year. So If you start in Feb 08 and run to Dec 09 they all would be 09's.

And if there are no changes made for three years? I know that's unlikely, but what guideline do you use then?

I think the show car was a stick....probably the Corvette transmission. You can't argue that GM doesn't have a transmission or clutch to handle the power, so I am not clear as to what the hold up might be. Marketing, perhaps? Mystique?

I echo the sentiment: no stick = no purchase.

No idea. Same **** was done here with the introduction of the Lumina, only auto's were available for the first 4-5 months then the Manual's started coming in.

It's a good thing I had one reserved as all the manual's were sold in advance.

Once it hit the next January it would be a 2010 model, even if they didn't change anything.

They can run a model year for more than 12 months, but there is a limit: 14, 16?

I was probably going to get the A6 anyway as it will be my daily driver, but this does make me more likely to wait for the '09 model year so I can make a more educated comparison between manual and auto for both the G8 and the Camaro.

As much fun as it would be to have a manual, if an auto is all I can get, then that will be it. I have faith in the auto tranny. There is a GTO here in Ohio with the APS twin turbo system and a lot more putting down around 600rwhp and on a stock automatic transmission.

Since there are all the complaints about no 6 speed, I thought everyone would find this interesting. Seems the Challenger is in the same boat we are.

I guess the TR6060 availability is impacting everyone.

M6 tranny in the GXP version only, the way it should be. I higly doubt those GTO's there in Ohio are runing stock automatic trannies with 600 hp, unless they've replaced their blown tranny several times. Having been in the tranny side of performance cars, the M6 will handle the power far better than any automaitc. you just go through clutches, not the whole tranny like an auto.
