Pedders is working with www.forgeline.com (http://www.forgeline.com) on a set of ZX3 Competition wheels for our G8.

http://www.forgeline.com/product_images/product_photo-xlarge_image-22.jpg

19x9.5 front and rear. The lips will be polished and the spokes / center titanium. They are even using titanium bolts to save weight. Complete the wheel will weigh in at just under 19 pounds. We'll run Bridgestone REO1R 275/35 front and rear. The rear wheel wells will need to be rolled, but the slightly wider stance all around with less unsprung weight should further enhance the handling. We know the rubber is desperately needed. The ride quality should be the same as the tire side wall is almost identical to the OE setup. We should have them on the car in two to three weeks.

We think it looks good now and will look amazing with the new wheels and rubber. Next up -- BRAKES!

good looking wheels, but you know Forgelines will be expensive. I agree with the $1k each estimate posted above.

Why is it with wheels the lighter they get the more they cost?

We weren't out looking for any ordinary wheels. We had a very specific set of operating parameters. Forgeline agreed to manufacture a wheel with sufficient offset to allow aggressive negative front cambers with a 9.5" wide rim to fit a 275/35 tire with nothing more than a fender roll -- in addition to being light weight. The wheels for the Pedders G8 will be about $4,400 at retail complete with titanium hardware, center caps, valve stems, lugs and so on. Tires at discount internet prices will be $300 each. The tires and wheels are a bargain compared to the HREs and Pilot Sports for the GTO.

When I run a road course the last thing on my checklist is did I save any money on less expenssive brakes, wheels, tires, suspension and safety equipment. I walk through Meijer grocery store. They sell helmets. The helmets get you by technically, but if you are in an accident do you really want a budget helmet or the best helmet money could buy?

Wow, I didn't think that a 275 would fit in the front and didn't think that you needed to roll the fender in the rear with a 275. I was thinking you could have went a bit a wider in the rear after reading that some guys are running 285's. You must have been trying to find a middle ground on the offsets front and rear so that you could rotate the tires.

What was the offset and would the fenders still need rolled on a stock suspension? I have been looking into rims the last few days and was considering the Zone 3's but these are much lighter for about the same price. I wonder what the weight and price would be for the standard zx3? This might look killer with the gunmetal center too. Any photo shop guys here that can do a chop to see how this rim will look on the g8? I'm sure it will look wild with the big lip both front and back.

Pete; I get your point on the helmet thing, though it's not the best analogy. Only reason I say that is because there has been a lot of controversy in the way helmets are tested in recent years. Often the high dollar helmet is NOT the one you want to wear in a crash. Many of the high end helmets excel in preventing a piercing blow but suffer in blunt force impacts due the high rigidity. I wish I could site the motorcycle issues and articles but not long ago I threw out many years of numerous subscriptions.

I like the wheel overall and 19 lbs. is stellar for a 19x9.5. Can't wait to see it on your G8. If I had to nit pick I'd do without the rivets and the free advert, but I'll reserve judgment until I see it on the car.

Aren't the rivets required in a 3 piece rim? For 1 piece rims with the rivets it's for show, but with the 3pc I am pretty sure they are holding that center piece on there.

Definitely. Just saying that a wheel in general (in my opinion) looks cleaner without fastener heads showing. I understand that for a multiple-piece wheel they are required.

Again, can't wait to see these on the G8. :driving:

HRE makes three piece wheels with the bolts / fasteners mounted from inside the wheel for a clean finish. You also can opt for the valve stems to be hidden on the inside barrel. With Forgeline the fasteners are exposed to reflect the racing heritage of the company and as an element of design.

Wheels are like art. What passes as a masterpiece to one is period pop art to another.

Fikse wheels does a nice job of hiding the rivets on pretty much all their multi-piece forged wheels (they're facing the back of the wheel):

There are a lot of good looking wheel available. The key is how many of them actually fit the G8? 19x9.5 will fit AND both Nitto NT01 and Bridgestone REO1R tires are available. These are the absolute best tires for street and light road course / autocross use. 20" wheel lock you out of these two tires. My personal preference is for the Bridgestone RE01R 2735/35/19. If I could get Bridgestone to make them in a 315/30/18 for my GTO...

Why is it with wheels the lighter they get the more they cost?

Better materials? and supply and demand. Lighter=better=more demand. :)

And also JusticePete's right, proper fitment is priceless. Messing with hub rings and machining the wheels and still rubbing on hard bumps is a PITA. Of course a lil Pedders can fix that. :D
