: manual tranny
Toreadorranger 08-14-2008, 01:47 AM Whos going to be the first to try and import a commodore manual or adapt another manual to their car?
Since the car is based on the commodore does the fire wall have the embossing and or holes for a clutch pedal?
LDV60 08-15-2008, 12:19 AM The car is essentially is a Commodore, the only differences are the front end facia and really not a whole lot more.
Thus the firewall will be identical, and will be completely ready to go.
You'd need a custom tune to eliminate the DOD, which was how we used the L76 in Australia in the previous model Commodore.
You'd also need the box, pedals and associated hydaulics.
Toreadorranger 08-15-2008, 04:00 PM Thats good news for the first person to try it, might be a cool kit for a company to put together with everything you would need.
blswan 08-17-2008, 10:28 AM Pontiac will be coming out with a manual soon. It would be cheaper to sell you current G8 and buy a new one than try this conversion.

The GXP is a large increase in price, so it prolly wouldnt be cheaper.

haha. Even if it does have the embossing and or holes for a clutch pedal they wouldn't do you any good or anyone else for that matter...since they'd be on the wrong side of the car.:wink2:

The manual transmission was available for LHD and RHD VE vehicles before the G8 hit dealership lots. Chevy Lumina SS is left hand drive and it has 6-speed manual transmission

I am aware of the price difference. I guarantee it would still be less expensive to buy the newer vehicle. Not to mention the additional benefits of a new car, more hp, etc etc. Have you ever priced parts such as those? Not to mention labor.

have you thought that if your gonna do a 6speed conversion 99% of the time the car that it would be done on isnt stock? so why would I sell a car I have already modded and started to build?

I'm sure he didn't realize you already had a car. But I would agree with blswan that a GXP with manual would be less expensive than modding a GT to either the proposed 403 hp or even the 420+ of the Camaro plus cost of transmission, clutch, pedal setup. In fact the jump to GXP will be less than the cost of the tranny and install alone.
Toreadorranger 08-23-2008, 01:30 AM What ever happened to the days when people actually built vehicles?

Thanks for the back up ChiefPontiac. I've done engine swaps, trans swaps, etc but I guess 50ish posts do not merit any experience. LOL.
Toreadorranger 08-23-2008, 10:04 AM Im sorry But I guess I have a different train of thought, I like my vehicles to be unique. If I wanted to be like everyone else I would have bought a jeep and not built this,

To me being unique is worth the money.

^ I would've bought the jeep...
RamJet 09-11-2008, 02:12 PM I hear you Mr. T. I can't afford the lump sum of the GXP, but by buying the pieces and doing the work myself I can. Not to mention, it's more rewarding.
Everybody has their strengths, preferences and budgets.

Isn't it hard to drive with those jack stands dragging the ground? :gr_jest:
