Does anyone know the quality of the Holden VSE that is being converted to the G8? I hear great things on the cars but was wondering if anyone had any stats on the number of problems per 100 cars or of reoccuring problems. Since the G8 is going to be carrying the same numbers, it would be nice to know beforehand.

Once more I am comparing my 2005 GTO to the G8.

The fit and finish of my goat was fantastic. Nothing at all like the cheap fit and finish of a typical Ford/Chevy/Pontiac.

The interior was clean, the blue leather seats were great for wide bodies like myself or my skinny buddy from Austin Texas who owns one. Never had a squeak or rattle from the inside.

I have owned about 30 vehicles in my life and the GTO was the best.

So if you have concerns about the quality of the G8, I wouldn't worry.

However this being said, I would wait for the second year of production before buying one. For example if they did like the GTO (350 hp LS1 in the first year, 400 hp LS2 in the second year) you would be saddened if GM went with the LS3 in the second year. Also most first year production cars have minor problems that need working out.

The Commodore VE (G8) has been sold in Australia since mid 2006 so it's technically been a year already since the platform's been out.

Yea, if the Holden was brand new, I would agree and wait for a year. However, since the Holden has been mass produced since 2006 I have no worries there. Thanks for the info though.

if you were happy with the GTO, then you'll be impressed with the G8

They have some issues with the early ones.

Handbrake adjustment is out (Fixed at first service)
Rear bumper fitment issues (Seems that the current ones do not suffer this problem)
AC internal fan turns off (Holden has put out a fix)
Battery drain issues (Holden has fixed the problem, new ones don't have this issue)

These are the most popular issues that i have heard.

Haven't had any of those.

The only complaint I HAD was a -loud- squeaking sound that use to come out of the right A-pillar when going over cat-eyes or just on relatively rough roads. Lately, for some reason, it's gone all by itself, and thank God for that as the dealership here sucks sweaty donkey balls.

Oh and the CD player skips when the car's under high acceleration or sudden braking and sometimes also due to relatively rough roads. Blaupunkt sucks.. -_-.

I read on ls1.com that they are going to be prodcuing 620 cars for local and export. Dont know if increased production will have any effect on quality.

There should be a "GXP" version in the 2nd year, which would prolly be an LS3 based perf. version. Tell me the manual is better than what was stock in the GTO?

Thing is though, the 2004 GTO wasn't a "first year" car. It was the first year it was available to us in the States, but had been built for many years prior in Australia.

However, having one of the "first year" cars, matter of fact, one built in the first BATCH (465) of them, Mine has NEVER been back to a Pontiac dealer in 3.5 years of ownership.

620 per day would be correct....which would be around the same figure they were running off the line (local & export) when they were making the gto. Holden were running at increased production so this means the quality should be at least on par with the gto

I'm a NooB to this site...
This has been my main concern with buying another GM vehicle. Granted my latest (2005 Saturn Vue Redline) isn't the best example but it rattles and squeaks something fierce... The Honda power train is the reason I bought it and that's been flawless...

I am happy to read the reply's above!

Now to wait for the manual trans...:gr_devil:

Cheers

quality audits have shown that even in pre-production stages, the ute was already better quality than the VZ version ever achieved, and i'd guess after production it only got better...

the VE is a much easier car to build, and the changes to clips etc will definately hold the car tighter than ever before
