Pics look nice.. good quality. cheers!

You will notice the red display above the radio with the Oil Pressure and Batt
Voltage metre.. a common complaint amongst owners here in Oz is that they
should have done something better here.. i.e be able to change the display.

The models here are just getting the Sat Nav components installed for the
head unit. The BlueTooth works really well and in between the two round gauges you will find yourself always using the digital speedo instead of looking
at the analogue one ;)

I must admint that colour combo inside is really quite nice. We don't have that
option here.

Thats obviously something that will change for the production version

Yeah, that could be costly unless the GT is meant to be priced much higher than the entry level 6 cyl model. We are only about 6 months from when these cars could show up so I'll bet this is close to the production specs.

Time will tell......very soon!!:D

The G8 GT Pontiac showed in Chicago is not, in fact, exactly what the G8 GT is going to look like when it hits showrooms early in 2008. This car is dolled up with a few SEMA-style tweaks that will not make it into production. For example, if you like the 20-inch wheels, tough nuggets. They won’t make the cut. Ditto for the ride height (production will be about a half-inch higher), the paint color, the hi-po brakes and painted calipers, and most tragically of all, the lovely two-tone leather interior. An available sport package will include alloy pedals and a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shifter, but the leather-wrapped dash is a show-car one-off. So sorry.

That's more than a few tweaks. This is getting kind of depressing. First we see this car that's awesome and has all these things we want, and than they take it all away. It just doesn't make any sense.

Actually those rims on the press pics are the same as the rims we get on the top of the range HSV GTS. They are a 20" wheel. Standard on the SSV gets 19" and standard on the SS gets 18" wheels. However we have lots of options with wheel combo's. Hence I opted for the 20"'s from delivery. A lot of people here find the ride height a little high and lower them anyway.

i honestly doubt much of the C&D stuff is true. maybe for a lower model (if there is more than just one model) but definately not the top.

This is due to two reasons:
I personally dont trust much of what auto mags say
and more importantly, if they only show one car, that is what it will be. there isnt another auto show season to show the final version. again, this is it.

Well 20" wheels and leather dash I could see not making it in to production. Brakes and two tone interior would be nice

I dont understand what all of the hate is towards the facts that were released saying what will not make it to the G8 for production. I could have told you that the 20 inch wheels, brakes and ride height were a bit much for a production model- and that two tone leather interior would have added at least $5k to the bottom line, and I dont even think its adds that much.

Seriously though, dont like the wheels? Go aftermarket.
Dont like the brakes? Go aftermarket
Dont like the ride height? Go aftermarket.
Dont like the paint job? Go aftermarket.

I would have much rather compromised the cosmetic stuff so long as they keep the mechanicals untouched, the interior similar and the great transmission selections. With all of the cosmetic things on the show car, the V-6 version would be around the $30k price tag and we would all be lamenting that the General dropped the ball again.

you are missing the point. most people dont want to go aftermarket for their cars. they would rather the production ready car be the the car they love, and not have to then dress it up.

I just find it odd that some people are going to turn down a potentially great car with a great engine, great interior, great chassis, a car that people have been begging GM to release because of some simple things that could be changed in the aftermarket. Not every car is going to be perfect to all people- I am sure some people look at those 20 inchers and shudder at the thought of driving them on their pot-holed local roads- same with the ride height.

I guess if the people who want the elements of the show car that will be missing on the production version, they may have to wait for the GXP version, or go aftermarket.

Nope. The wheels, ride height and brakes are very good possabilities, but nothing is certain. The color, who knows- this could be some $5000 a gallon paint made special for the show car.

not sure if it's been asked already; I see that it should be mp3 capable (which is awesome if the screen works as a menu and you can go through folders/artists/etc.), but does anyone know if it will have iPod/mp3 player capabilities too? right below the second knob near the Blaupunkt nameplate, it looks like an AUX-in (i think that's what they are called; like a headphone jack..)
