: High Wing / "Boy Racer" Spoiler? - Where to order?
Mike P 10-23-2007, 12:50 AM Now that the previous "Sport Package" high wing / boy racer spoiler is not going to be any type of option for the 1st round / model year of Pontiac G8's, what do you guys think the best way to order one will be?
Wait for an aftermarket one?
Get a Holden VE wing from http://www.jhp.com.au/ ?
I know it's a personal taste, but I really like that spoiler look......
Please advise........... Thanks!

Mike P 10-23-2007, 02:15 AM Funny, veritasatis but not helpful. :gr_jest:
This is subjective.......I really hate the spoiler on the GTO, but the SS spoiler suits the VE/G8. It took me some time to work it out but here are my observations. The SS rear spoiler balances out the aggressive front of the VE, where as the lip spoiler offered on the G8 is underagressing the total package. Sort of saying, I mean business up front but not sure whats happening at the back. In person, the SS spoiler makes the statement of (here I am and I don't care in a non rice way)......the lip spoiler is one I would ditch as my first mod.
Mike P 10-23-2007, 06:12 AM Olly, good analogy. Although, I do understand that some people like the lip better, and some people like the spoiler look better. But now back to my original post / question...............
PMD G8 10-23-2007, 08:53 AM Judging by some of the pre-production models running around the U.S. with these wings on them I still think that it will be an option even though it's not on the GM website. Best thing to do is wait and see.
Mike P 10-23-2007, 10:23 AM PMD G8, I definitely hope that is the case..........
Holden has it as a dealer installed option on lesser Commodores that don't have it standard. In American dollars it would convert to $617.81. I can't imagine Pontiac dealers missing an opportunity to stick it to customers for a $1000 wing. I would expect it to be a dealer installed accessory until it becomes a factory option.
You might check this place out I found on Ebay

Just to clear things up, on the VE SS, these are 2 spoilers available. The first, is the same as the SV6 and the whole spoiler is painted the same as the car. The 2nd is a 2 tone spoiler, the top is painted the same as the car but the lower section and the mounting legs are black. This spoiler is marginally larger & higher than the standard SV6/SS spoiler. The standard one colour spoiler is cheaper and takes a good eye to pick the difference if you don't take the 2 tone setup into account.
need4spd 10-24-2007, 12:04 PM PMD G8, I definitely hope that is the case..........There is a picture at a show somewhere that shows the large spoiler as a "Dealer" installed accessory for 2009MY.
You have to wait 6 months or so to get it from the dealer, don't fret too much over it.

asylum 11-25-2007, 06:18 PM the only issue with the high-wing spoiler is the need for the different boot lid, the lip has holes along the edge, where the wing has the standard 2 each side of the lid
Fill and repaint would be cheaper. I just compared a lip spoiler's mounting to an SS high spoiler mounting. The "outer" holes closest to the tail lamps are identical for both. The lip uses 1 bolt each side, the high spoiler uses 2 bolts each side, it's just that the 2nd hole isnt drilled out if a lip is used, though the spots to drill are already imprinted in the trunk lid. The lip spoiler has tape along the leading and trailing edge to help secure it to the trunklid. Only issue would be to fill the 5 holes across the trunklid where the securing clips go through.

AHhh. Ok I had a feeling that the G8's were running a different spoiler than the SS and SSV, other than the two tone which was apparent. Thanks for clearing that up.

This is why Pontiac will not offer the high-wing spoiler.
SilverFox 01-05-2008, 11:18 AM I hope they reconsider!!! I WANT THAT SPOILER!!! At least on the GXP model?
Considering a lot of GTO guys removed their spoilers all together, I can't see it being any more of a problem for the G8 guys putting a SS commodore spoiler on in place of the lip. Fill 5 holes....repaint/blend.
Mike P 01-06-2008, 12:30 AM I'm hoping there will be some U.S. aftermarket spoilers available, that are similar to the Commodore rear wings.

Watch RK Sport. They seem to be the "de-facto" GM restyling company.
PMD G8 01-06-2008, 10:50 PM Just found out over on the aussie forums that the SS/SSV spoiler is no longer available on the Commodore. The SV6 spoiler, which is slightly smaller, is now standard across the "S"ports" model commodore range.
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=86635
So one can assume Pontiac will offer the smaller one as an option in 09.
To the naked eye there isnt much difference between the 2. Both are still available if you look hard enough as replacements.

It should be offered as an option for the car so everyone is happy. There's no reason Holden can't assemble it that way if ordered.

and it actually does impede your rear view quite badly!!!! I'd love to go to the Calais V Int'l 'lip' spoiler (same as the G8 has I believe), but then I'd have two extra/open holes in my boot/trunk lid :(

I think that looks awesome, but it does appear as though it would negatively affect your rearward view.
I am fine in waiting. These sort of things (like the catback) are usually a lot cheaper from some aftermarket company and can usually be installed yourself. But I like that wing. I'll have to decide about them though.

I am with you and it should be a dealer add on when the 09's come out.

Pure, unadulteraded secks. :yumyum: I'm fairly used to not seeing much out the rear of my '04 GTO, so I wouldn't mind having that on the rear of a G8....

Still...
Do you pay the dealer a grand or get it painted at an autoshop and done for ~800 yourself?
