: Spotted a G8 in Madison Heights, MI!!!
984mula 10-23-2007, 03:13 AM So I was coming back from lunch and what do I see as I walk out of my car? I was taken back at first, I couldn't believe I finally saw it in person. It is a beautiful car, so much presence in person. Looked like a BMW. The stance and size of the car will surprise you when you see it in person; this thing is mean.
I watched him pull away as I had everyone in my work watching. It looked huge, low slung, and the front wheels pushed almost to the front of the car. The chrome surround on the windows, black paint; it was perfect. I want it that much more now!!! My only negative is the spoiler, I would much more prefer the lip. The wheels are much better in person too, although I still prefer the big 19's.
I really hope this thing sells well, it looks amazing.
Mike P 10-23-2007, 03:26 AM Yep, I totally agree. Seeing this car in person is totally different from the pictures. It totally looks like a cross between a 5 series & 7 series BMW in person.
It really looks sleek as well.
This wait is still killing me!!! :p

not to worry, based on the latest update, stock is only the lip spoiler, with or without the sport package (the big wing is a 2009 dealer installed accessory - good thing in my book, this way those who want it can get it later)
appletonrc 10-23-2007, 08:53 PM Thanks for the pics. It looks bigger when it's sitting next to a cycle and other cars. can't wait!
Lichtronamo 10-23-2007, 09:48 PM Looks great.
lifesabre 10-24-2007, 02:03 PM This may be a dumb question. But how are these out in the wild? Who are the people driving these cars? Is there a test group or something? Thanks
TJ Temple
Lichtronamo 10-24-2007, 03:42 PM I'm sure they're engineering mules undergoing final shakedowns. It's a black car like some in the group that went from California, through Colorado (where a red one went of a cliff) and ended up in Michigan.

Would it fit your Commodore given the different bumper structure?
I like the accessory gauges on top of the center stack - nice.

The bumpers were altered as was the hoods for the G8. The hood swap would leave a gap at the top of the bumper. Looks like there will be more to it than just a new hood.
need4spd 10-25-2007, 09:38 PM Yep, the G8 comming to the states is 196" long vs 192" for the aussie version. I guess it is for the 5mph bumpers.
skyer1 10-25-2007, 09:43 PM i love that car. That's pretty much the exact car i want when this thing finally rolls out. I would like to wait out for a gxp, but wow, that thing is nice

Which means the bumpers might not be able to be swapped.
NOOOOO, I was planning on piecing an HSV kit together.
TriShield 10-28-2007, 04:54 PM I could do without the chrome around the greenhouse but it looks good nonetheless.

Guys I don't see why they wouldn't fit. I would like someone to get a photo of the oil plate next to the oil filter to see if that is the same as the L98 engine here.
I'm more than happy to sell you guys the "centre stack" as you call them. Just contact me thru PM here or via email at jkgmh@hotmail.com
Cheers

I'm sure people will be interested in them, but I can't see anyone putting up any money for them right now since the G8 won't be in showrooms for another 3-4 months.
I was out in my front yard this past Sunday afternoon raking leaves with my 3 yr old when I heard a car coming slowly down the road. Glanced up to see a black G8 that was a dead ringer for the ones in the Madison Heights pics (I live in Rochester Hills MI not overly far from Madison Heights so who knows...). The thing is absolutely gorgeous. Driver clearly knew he was getting looks from everyone who was out working in their yards as he was rolling it slowly down the street showing off. Cannot wait to get one parked in my drive way!!!
jaywestfall 11-06-2007, 01:57 PM Can't really tell. Is the arrowhead red?
God, I can't wait to actually be able to drive one of these cars. This car looks better every time I see it.

Yes, the arrowhead is REd.
johnh 11-13-2007, 10:01 PM Looks hot..of course...and I like the big spoiler.
I keep missing them...in Michigan no less...maybe I should just go cruise the Tech center...

nice pics
asylum 11-18-2007, 01:14 AM Which means the bumpers might not be able to be swapped.
only issue would probably be the reinforcement bars, not sure if theres extra foam or anything behind the bumper, but all the metal (minus hood) is the same, so bumpers will be fine.
hood will need to be swapped, as it sits flush with the grille in the bumper

It looked like it was on loan from GM or something, the shot of the rear was just before they put it on a closed private carrier to be taken away...
lancer 11-18-2007, 07:57 PM nice
asylum 11-18-2007, 08:25 PM very nice photos, looks like a 99% production model V6 in "magnetic" grey, definitely one of my favourite colours in person
appletonrc 11-18-2007, 09:02 PM So is there a schedule that cars a being dropped at dealers? I'd love to see on in person.
BTW, I'm leaning Magnetic grey. I was a bit disappointed not to see a silver though.

Single tale pipes? Is that the what the V6 will have?

That's a good question, sorry I don't know the answer. I was in a hurry to get somewhere else I would have stopped in and asked them about it (and maybe tried to sit in it).
I was glad to see (assuming this was a production unit) that there are some G8's (I guess the V6 variants?) that don't have the chromey taillights, which I'm not a fan of. It opens up the option for V6 and GT owners to trade their taillights to each other if they want.

I too like the red tails on the V6 better than the clear lensed tails on the GT, also the non-chrome ringed door handles vs the GT with chrome trim ring.
But hey, maybe I'll make a V6 owner very happy with a swap.
Single tale pipes? Is that the what the V6 will have?Yes, the V6 has dual vs quad for the GT, tail pipes
4gasem 11-19-2007, 09:25 AM It opens up the option for V6 and GT owners to trade their taillights to each other if they want.
+1 to that! I like regular 'ol red len's on this car...
That deck lid spoiler is nasty yuck! 4 doors aren't supposed to have spoilers like that... I want the little toenail spoiler on the edge of the rear deck lid edge... I really hope that you can get the performance package without it because that might seal the deal with me passing on it all together...
PMD G8 11-19-2007, 12:25 PM Bluestreak, nice job on the pics.
Single tale pipes? Is that the what the V6 will have?
Yup. I actually think they look better than the Quad Pipes that the GT will get.
Me too. Quad pipes were never my favorite. I'm sure I could get some aftermarket mufflers with a single pipe on either side.
chill 11-19-2007, 06:39 PM i dig the clear lenses more than the red, however, i would tear em down and tint the chrome backing anyways to give it a smoked look, so no red for me. i also would trade the chrome trim for the non chrome trim, it looks cheap imho. quad pipes for the win, unless i could get a dual tip setup thats larger than those tips. i also like the quad tips they have over seas on the clubbys, its like a dual, with half another pipe tip on either side... i like those

pinski 11-20-2007, 09:07 AM Single tale pipes? Is that the what the V6 will have?
Yes indeedy, and better looking than the quad pipes that come on the GT.

I agree, I actually really like the taillights off of the Holden Calais V the best. It would also be nice if the V6 model received a hood without scoops, because I would like to have a nice, clean flat hood.
Yup. I actually think they look better than the Quad Pipes that the GT will get.
Me too.
Stevemata 11-21-2007, 01:59 PM first time I have heard of the G8 is when I saw a GT on the highway last week in Sacramento CA, it was orange with black trim. I slowed down to take a look at it - it sounded good.
Sorry no pictures, I wasn't thinking.
CHASLS2 12-30-2007, 05:02 PM Hi all i'm new to the site. I never really knew about G8 until today, found this site on the GTO forums. I did have a 05 GTO and loved it.
But to my story,
I was driving around this weekend in my modded C6 a6 when this car came from behind me and wanted to play, in the rearview mirror i said to myself that looks kinda like a GTO with the hood scoops, then he got beside me and i had no idea what kind of car it was.
Now that i found this site i now know it was a G8.
I may have to look at the V8 G8 when it comes to a local dealer.
Chas
Mike P 12-30-2007, 08:14 PM Did you guys race at all?
CHASLS2 12-31-2007, 03:57 PM Did you guys race at all?
I live on the west coast of Florida near Tampa, i forgot to say that on my first post.
There was too much traffic to really race, plus i got a big problem with my a6 C6.
Anytime i nail it from a slow roll, say 10mph to 30mph the car takes a hard dive to the left, and i mean a full 90 degree hard dive!
I just did AR headers, tune, and a mild A6 tune with some of the TM removed on up and downshifts, if i roll into the power or if i drive normal the car acts fine.
Some people say its my Z06 swaybars mixed with my stock springs and shocks, some say it could be my rearend, but no way is it normal for my car to dive hard left if i nail it from a roll.
It's going to my tuner this weekend.
higgledy 12-31-2007, 07:03 PM I like the gray too, but I don't care for the chrome around the windows.

I would agree I like the single pipes, no spoiler, no chrome handles, red rear lights, Ruby red paint finish with the red and black interior. Oh and I want to have 19inch rims but think the 18inch rims look better.

I can only hope that xeon lights will find there way into this car.
I like the gray too, but I don't care for the chrome around the windows.
Ya, the gray appears to be the best for now, orange and red good but "ticket getter" colors...maybe 09 will have a silver...like the v6 wheels more than ths v8s...
As long as we are wishing, here is what I emailed to Pontiac the other day:
"G8 2dr “Hardtop” please!! There is a reason I bought the 1967 GTO (regimental red), 1969 GTO (ram air III, lime light green) and the 1972 GTO (Sundance orange) all brand new…the reason is I did not fit in the firebird!! (6’ 4” 190 lbs) They were too confining and hard to carry four people to the coast etc... I currently own a 1983 Grand Prix V8 but not a hardtop.
A 2dr Hardtop G8 would be about the size on my Goats and would sell too many and not to mention the new young people that have no idea what a Hardtop is! I did not buy the 04-06 GTO, not a hardtop, poor styling, no trunk space. The Camero will be too small for many of us gray beards that long for a modern GTO, Malibu SS, 442, etc…. that size car sold for a reason. And you will pick up new young buyers with that size…think Audi5, BMW 6. I would pay a $3000 premium over the 4dr and would have been sign up for a new by now. Please!! "
Sorry if off topic but had to get it out of my system....Also know it will not happen..?
BBBBGXP 01-02-2008, 01:49 PM Hey STex, truer words were never spoken! GM needs to wake up to the "baby boomers" and the $$ we have to spend on the cars we liked when we were kids. Not all of us could afford new GTOs every couple of years, but they were the cars of our youth, those that we desired and would drive today if available. If you haven't already, you might look for the blogs written by Bob Lutz at Fastlane.gmblogs.com. He is known to actually read the replys!
