: Chinese Buick Park Avenue
Brighterdoug 12-29-2011, 02:02 AM Why can't GM bring this back to the US?

knglibrty 12-29-2011, 06:16 AM Not a fan of light color interior, but this is sweet. Classic Buick looking interor....
jackalope 12-29-2011, 09:18 AM I'd like to see more pics! But from what I see it looks sweet.
Whitegreat8 12-29-2011, 09:35 AM I know, I was wondering the same, that car is very nice. It makes the G8 into more of a luxury car but yet you'd still have all the performance, it would be like the perfect car. But naw, that makes too much sense to bring it to the states. :) My theory is and correct me if I'm wrong anyone is that since GM took the Gov. Money they want to try to import as few cars as possible to avoid scruitney from the american public. I think that is why they did not keep selling the G8 under the Chevy badge, just my theory.
MotorCityG8 12-29-2011, 12:49 PM That car looks bad@ss! Would look even better with dark interior.
BBBBGXP 12-29-2011, 01:04 PM Built in China? That would account for all the luxo additions, cheap labor! Is this the Commodore or Caprice wheelbase/body/frame? I thought the Chinese Park Avenue was built off the Caprice?:wink2:

Brighterdoug 12-31-2011, 12:34 AM I was surprised to see the new Buick Regal is coming from Germany! They will make some here soon. Wish they would build the Park Avenue here. It would blow away so many of the Lexus, BMW, Mercedes big cars. And look better too.

Skimmed it pretty fast, but didn't notice where it said they were imported. Gave more of an impression they were built in China by GM Shanghai.

The dealer I frequent had a Russelhiem, Germany built Regal sitting in the showroom. They said it was one of the first Regals they'd gotten and that all the ones they get now are built in North America.
Troutman 12-31-2011, 03:23 AM I believe the Chinese Park Avenue is powered by an Australian-built V6. Despite obvious differences it is essentially a Caprice. I will chuck up a couple of videos.

The exterior is typical WM.

See what happens when you drop the pay to only $14/Hour, they get all those brain dead people!:judge:
Troutman 12-31-2011, 11:33 PM I think the Park Avenue has an electronic park brake. The console is very different.
All Park Avenues are also equipped with brake pads as far as I know.
asylum 01-01-2012, 02:34 AM i like the clean front guards with the side repeater lamp in the mirrors. the stock WM LED strips look a little cheap up close.

Yep, that's a Statesman / Caprice (down here) from looking at the body style and interior.

What did they used to say in the ads......"This isn't your father's Buick anymore"? Don't know if that helps with eliminating the "heavy smoking skank" image or not? Sure seems like they are trying real hard to get that out of our minds though.:wink2:
Richard Craneum 01-01-2012, 08:41 AM I think that was Oldsmobile slogan.
Tiger Wood was the Buick guy and look where he is now...

Fast4drss 01-01-2012, 01:16 PM I went to China for several weeks and saw a tons of Buicks. Apparently Buicks are very popular and are considered luxury cars.
I think it is interesting that GM continues to bring "low end or excitement" cars to the US. They continue to develop exciting designs for other countries.
Off my soapbox now.
BBBBGXP 01-02-2012, 11:38 PM I think that was Oldsmobile slogan.

Meh, Buick, Oldsmobile, they were both old men's cars. Point is they are trying hard to change that opinion. Look at the reviews of the Regal GS as an example. And you are probably right, I think the Buick was always regarded as the doctor's car.:wink2:
jackalope 01-03-2012, 07:17 AM Wait when did Oldsmobile become an "old mans" car? They had some nice performance editions damn near till they went under. And then when they did GM actualy did right by them and came out with limited edition cars with special badge's and paint. Oldsmobile was the luxury performance branch of GM back in the day WAY before Cadi ever thought of a "V".

Guess you just have to be old to remember who you saw driving around Olds in the 60s and 70s. Wasn't a lot of kids! Not to mention, look at who bought new Auroras, not kids. Sure there were some 442's out there in the 70s, but who bought them? Not kids! They were luxo sedans designed for the middle aged bunch, aimed at the buyers of BMWs 3s and 5s. Just like the original age group for the G8 was the 35-45 age group, things change, and the demographics don't always hold up. You see more resales to younger buyers of performance sedans, than you do original sales. When the prices get down to the average young person's budget. Olds did do some really good engines, but again, over the years, they were mostly in luxo sedans, aimed at the middle age bunch. :wink2:
Richard Craneum 01-03-2012, 02:39 PM Olds was a division that introduced new technologies to the GM line up. Buick was always the Affordable Luxury division.
Who remember Oldsmobile Aerotech?
The death watch started when GM decided to take the identities of the Divisions by taking their engines/tweaks. After that was nothing but a name plate with some add ons.
The people that has enough memory to remember the late 70s and in the 80s knows. Ford had some fun with that...
In 1986 and GM still not getting it...

GT Drew 01-20-2012, 12:06 PM I just wish GM North America would admit the Holden models are superior and in demand. Trucks, Luxury and Performance vehicles are RWD. Leave the FWD to the smaller cars/econobox groups.
Richard Craneum 01-20-2012, 12:32 PM When an Accountant Group runs the Design, Engineering, Manufacturing and Marketing Departments can be defined with 2 words... General Motors.

When I was at the buick dealer the other day I was looking at the new Regal. It's interesting the dash looks a lot like the g8's. I think that center display is actually the same, must come from the same vendor. But I was thinking why on earth would somebody want to pay 33 grand for a fwd 270HP car when just a couple years back they coulda gotten a better RWD car with 361HP (the g8 gt) Makes no sense. My theory is why GM stopped importing the G8's is because with the goverment money it woulda been hard to justify selling a car produced in another country.
Turbo301 01-24-2012, 11:44 AM Guess you just have to be old to remember who you saw driving around Olds in the 60s and 70s. Wasn't a lot of kids! Not to mention, look at who bought new Auroras, not kids. Sure there were some 442's out there in the 70s, but who bought them? Not kids!
Of course not, Olds and Buick were always higher-priced marques; if kids could afford every level of automobile, there wouldn't be much left to make it worth working hard to get money to buy something better!
Olds' and Buick's performance models were very capable - and hot-looking - machines; don't discount them just because young people couldn't afford them. Most young people wished they COULD have afforded them LOL!
Fast-forward to today, and you could say that all Corvettes and SRT-8 products are geezer-mobiles because, again, kids can't afford them. Getting old has to have its priveledges, ya know ;)
mrbirdman330 02-19-2012, 10:59 PM Back in 05' when I was in South Korea I saw Caprice badged as a Daewoo. It was at a mini auto expo in Incheon International Airport. Spotted on my long trek to find a store that was selling individual cans of Coke so I could add them to my collection.
Troutman 02-19-2012, 11:03 PM The Daewoo Veritas is powered by a V6 engine and features massaging rear seats with chrome grille, mirror covers and rear number plate surround. It featured on my Youtube slide show. Cheers.

lakemg 03-23-2012, 07:30 PM Nice find Troutman. Are these built in China or Aus?
Troutman 03-23-2012, 09:43 PM :)
According to Wikipedia, assembly is by GM Shanghai. To my knowledge this would make it the first Australian car in history to be assembled abroad.
I notice that the car in the advert strongly resembles a Holden though, with side indicators in the guards (as well as mirrors?), Holden 18" wheels and Holden front bar. The '07 model Buick had a more unique look. Until someone says otherwise, though, I'll assume it is still made in China.
