I figured I'd extend the invite to the G8 community after taking my 09 out of the course last year and I was blown away how much fun it was in the car. Even if you don't want to purchase a spot, I'd highly recommend coming out for the touring session which we host both saturday and sunday at noon. 45 min out on the track under a "controlled environment".
bracketracer 01-05-2012, 12:29 PM I'm really glad that you posted this link. I have been looking for an excuse to get my M6 GXP out to Road America, and this would be a great opportunity! I also notified my buddy Josh (Oldskoolgp) because he wants to get his '06 M6 GTO onto the track.
I went to Road America last year for the Nationwide Series race and promised myself that the next trip I would be on the opposite side of the fence!
I will be in Germany in late March and will be driving a BMW Z4 3.0 Si Coupe on the Nurburgring, and I figure that will be a good warmup for me driving my G8 GXP at Road America!
Thanks again for the update, and I hope to see other G8s there too.
Formula WS6 01-05-2012, 12:57 PM Not a problem. I can't stress enough how much fun I had even with my wifes auto gt vs my m6 firebird ( which is set up more for straight line anyways). When I go this spring I'll most likely toss a trans cooler on it just to be safe cause I know the A6 likes to heat up.
b_camaro 01-06-2012, 01:36 AM If my work schedule allows it, I will be going.
bracketracer 01-06-2012, 08:19 AM Awesome Tim! Now I need to make sure that I can go for sure. I am shooting for being there for the Sunday portion, but not the whole weekend.
Formula WS6 02-02-2012, 10:43 AM 12 days left before the price increase. Sign up Soon and I promise you'll be hooked!
bracketracer 02-02-2012, 11:53 AM Thanks for the reminder. I need to get a Snell 2005 helmet since my Snell M2000 definitely won't pass tech. I need to go on and register as well. I also will need to get a replacement set of brake pads, because I'm not sure how much I will have left of my stock pads once I'm done! This trip is rapidly adding up to almost as much as my trip to the Nurburgring in 52 days, but I'm sure that it will be a blast!
Formula WS6 02-02-2012, 01:21 PM Most outings add up to more than we'd want them to. lol
Here is a link to a list of brake pad references on our site so you can choose a suitable pad for the car. Any questions, just ask here or on the forum
http://www.mfba.org/showthread.php?482-Brake-pad-references...
b_camaro 02-03-2012, 01:35 AM Joe,
The Hawk HP plus would be a good pad for you. You can change and bed them at home, drive to the track day and use them, then drive home and switch back to your normal daily driver pad. Doing this will also allow you to give the rims a good inside out cleaning while you are swapping pads back. If you really get into doing open track events. You can later go to a more aggressive pad that you would swap out to at the track. A set of HP pluses should last for quite a few open track events.
If you are getting a helmet get a SA2010 so you can get 5 more years out of it then a SA2005.
bracketracer 02-03-2012, 09:25 AM Tim,
Thanks for the advice on the helmet. Makes good sense to spend the extra money on a helmet that should meet tech for at least 8 more years, instead of only a slightly cheaper one that may only be accepted for 3 more years. I just ordered one up. Also thanks for the advice on the Hawk HP plus pads. I need to order a set of those.
bracketracer 02-06-2012, 10:49 AM Well, the Snell2010 helmet is ordered and enroute. I have completed the registration and waiver forms, and am sending them. Now all I need to do is order the brake pads and I am set!
Formula WS6 02-06-2012, 12:26 PM updated with a new email. thanks for the heads up

bracketracer 02-06-2012, 10:15 PM Glad that I helped uncover it. Now let's see lots of other G8s (especially GXPs) show up for the day!
Formula WS6 02-07-2012, 05:08 PM Well, the Snell2010 helmet is ordered and enroute. I have completed the registration and waiver forms, and am sending them. Now all I need to do is order the brake pads and I am set!
I'm in the same boat as you with an expired helmet(SA2000). Just curious, cause I've been putting it off, where did you get yours from and the price if you don't mind me asking?
Paul
bracketracer 02-07-2012, 10:36 PM I got a G-Force thru Summit and paid $191.94 shipped. Got it today, and it should work great.

Formula WS6 02-20-2012, 09:11 AM I believe we have atleast one more g8 joining for the weekend. Don't know just yet if I'm bringing the wifes G8 cause I may be towing our 24hr of lemons firebird up for testing.
bracketracer 02-22-2012, 05:00 PM Only 67 days left, but who's counting? Hope to see some other G8s signing up to have fun that day too. When I'm not driving I want to see and hear a G8 going wide-open down the front straight!
Formula WS6 02-28-2012, 11:51 AM bump for April!

If you're up to getting separate brake pads for the track, I'd highly recommend DTC-70. Because I've used HP Plus on my Camaro and Mustang (both lighter and less powerful cars than G8), and they start melting by the 3rd session of the day even if the weather is not particularly hot. DTC-70 work pretty good even when cold (unlike say Carbotech), so getting from home to the track with them should not be an issue.
bracketracer 03-03-2012, 10:11 AM Well, since I already bought that Hawk HP Plus pads, I will just have to hope that they hold up for the 4-5 20 minute sessions. I'll have to let folks know.
The event is now only 56 days away (57 for me since I will only be there Sunday)! Looking forward to seeing some other G8s there!
realsquash 04-03-2012, 07:08 PM I wish I had time to go. I ran my G8 on RA a couple years ago, twice that year, and it was awesome!
Andy
bracketracer 04-04-2012, 11:24 AM Darn, I saw your screenname on here, and was hoping that you were popping in to say that you'd be joining us! Glad to hear that you are staying busy. I just want to remind you that you still need to take some "me time" and have fun with that G8 Beast of yours!

bracketracer 04-12-2012, 11:31 AM Hey folks, I want to see plenty of other G8s there that day. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing other G8s flying around Road America with me!
Formula WS6 04-22-2012, 10:41 PM Less than one week away! If people are intimidated to run full sessions, at least come out for touring sessions during lunch. $60 for 45 controlled minutes on the track. No helmet required!
I will be there with the wife's g8 as well
bracketracer 04-23-2012, 09:58 PM I am counting down the days! I'll be putting on my brake pads Wed or Thurs, and then preparing for a VERY early departure on Sunday to get there by 6:30.
I've been re-familiarizing myself with the track on computer games. This is alot easier to memorize than the Nurburgring, LOL!
I am very curious to try to guess what kind of lap times I can expect with a basically stock GXP with race pads? Anyone have any guesses? I hope by the last session of the day, that I will be practiced enough to push it for a good time. I managed some 2:21 laps on my game, but I doubt that will be realistic for the actual day. Would a 2:45 be respectable? Guesses and suggestions appreciated!
b_camaro 04-27-2012, 02:28 AM Looks like I will be able to attend on Sun. if I can get registered. Will probably be out there even if I can't run so will see ya there Joe.
Formula WS6 04-27-2012, 10:07 AM Looks like we have 2 more G8's in attendance. Getting hyped for a fun weekend!
Woodys GXP 04-27-2012, 02:14 PM I am in! Will be making the payment as soon as I get home from putting the check in the bank! See you guys there!
bracketracer 04-28-2012, 11:31 AM Oh am I looking forward to this! We will have 3 GXPs in attendance, and the weather is supposed to be even better tomorrow. Reports from the track today from Josh are that the track is dry, but cold and slick. He started to lose the backend of his GTO in the kink at over 80 mph, but recovered. That will wake you up!
Formula WS6 04-28-2012, 01:35 PM Everything has been great all day today. Just got done with lunchtime touring and, he track is holding heat. My isnt going to be happy with me cause I warped the **** out of her rotors. Woopsie. Lol
Damn! Wish I would of found this thread sooner as RA is almost literally in my backyard (ok, I live maybe 3 miles from the track but close enough). I have wanted to get my 09 GT on that track since I got it. However, I am spending the weekend at my friend's house in DePere so I can't even come out to meet some fellow G8 lovers. Hope you all had a wonderful time.
Sent from my Motorola Electrify
Formula WS6 04-30-2012, 08:01 AM What a great all around weekend! I'm so thankful to everyone who came. I hope everyone had a ton of fun.
bracketracer 04-30-2012, 09:27 AM This was a great event! You guys at MFBA ran a great event, and my hat is truly off to everyone involved. At first I was disappointed that I got bumped into Class D (Novice), but I am really glad that it worked out that way. Having a mandatory instructor along with me really helped me learn to drive the track MUCH better! Dave was great, and I would highly recommend him! It was REALLY fun once I was driving the track well enough to chase down and pass cars with more power than me in a big 4-door sedan!
I do have to warn other GXP owners who trackday their cars to watch their oil temps. Once I was driving the car harder, I was getting the oil temp warning on the Driver Information Center earlier and earlier. On my last session, I had been running with the warning, got a low fuel warning, and then the engine simply died! Thankfully it happened as I was already slowing down for Turn 5, and I had no problems getting off the track safely. I think the Mobil 1 is fine for the street and drag racing, but I don't have as much confidence in it anymore for trackday use, unless I add an oil cooler.
Formula WS6 04-30-2012, 10:00 AM I was under the impression all LS3's had oil coolers. I know the camaro's do.
bracketracer 04-30-2012, 11:07 AM My understanding was that the GXP was supposed to have one as part of an optional "Track Pack" but that it didn't survive to production.

bracketracer 05-02-2012, 11:41 AM I love the pics! My buddy Hutch was on a ride-a-long in car 351 (since I couldn't have a passenger AND an instructor) when this picture was taken. I can clearly see a big grin on his face that he claims is still there, LOL! It was a great day. Thanks for posting.
Sunder 05-02-2012, 01:20 PM I do have to warn other GXP owners who trackday their cars to watch their oil temps. Once I was driving the car harder, I was getting the oil temp warning on the Driver Information Center earlier and earlier. ...
I've got a cooler thermostat in my LS3 and the temp gauge only moved fractionally after 3-20 minute sessions at the track. I drove very aggressively (see MSR Houston thread for video). The issue I had was transmission temps. I have to get an external tranny cooler - watching the temps rise was scary.
