Talked to my Dealer yesterday and she mentioned a '888' package - probably a "special sticker" or some nonsense for the first 888 copies
Anyone here know what thats about? And yes I tried to search but '888' is too short to search on...
The other tidbit was that she said that they will know their first allotment and what versions/colors/etc will be in it tomorrow 10/24.
She sure talks a good deal.
Tom
I heard something of that nature in a post on this site, but cant remember where i read it. It was something on the lines of what you said.
That seems odd, 888 Engineering runs a Ford Falcon in the Australian V8 Supercar series. For GM to name a package, or special edition with the same name just seems silly. I believe Craig Lowndes drives the 888 car.

This just in .......the last 400 2004 GTO's will be 40th Anniversary .............wait ........um.........
Oh oh - this just in .......... the mid year 2006 GTO's will have a special nickel color option..... oh yea, thats right............
While they may plan for it - doing special editions (with importing holdens) has not worked out well historically.

The First 888 G8’s feature a special vehicle identification number (VIN) sequence from #001 to #888 and a unique interior trim logo on the passenger-side dash that reads “G8 First 888.” More information will be communicated at Pontiaclaunch.com in the next few days and eligible Pontiac dealers will be notified on Monday, November 19th.

The full announcement, my bold.
This leads to an important G8 launch announcement. To attract collector-minded enthusiasts and first-in-line G8 consumers, we are proud to introduce the G8 First 888 Program. Leveraging the power of "8" in G8, this special introductory program will provide 888 of the earliest retail units to reach over 700 Pontiac dealers nationwide. The First 888 G8's feature a vehicle identification number (VIN) sequence from #001 to #888 (last three digits of VIN) and a unique interior trim logo on the passenger-side dash panel that reads "G8 First 888." These initial vehicles will be allocated to select Pontiac dealers based on a distribution formula combining segment registrations and 12-month retail Pontiac sales.
Quantities of First 888 vehicles for individual Pontiac dealers will be communicated starting next week and eligible dealers will receive one (1) or more vehicles, depending on their earned allocation. Eligible dealers will receive further program communication on Monday, November 19, 2007, via GM Messenger. Vehicle assignments will occur starting on Wednesday, November 21. Please keep in mind that given the very limited number of vehicles available, certain Pontiac dealers will not be eligible for a First 888 vehicle. However, all dealers may view their estimated 2008MY G8 allocation quantity beyond the First 888 at Pontiaclaunch.com in the G8 distribution section by Wednesday, November 21, 2007 for their planning purposes.
The First 888 vehicles have been pre-packaged and pre-ordered and will be available in both V6 and V8 models in a variety of colors and trims. Vehicles are expected to arrive by March 2008 depending on dealership location. For your information, attached is an electronic copy of a new G8 hero card highlighting product features, option packages, free flow options, and more.
More than 700 but less than 888 dealers will have these first edition vehicles, which will be numbered from 001 to 888. From how I read it the dealers may not even be able to select which car(s) they get as to color, engine and otehr options. Sounds like it will be pretty much a blind lottery. There may be some trading back and forth more than usual just to satisfy the first 888 drooling customers willing to pay, ahem, over sticker (ouch!) Actually I hope there are none so willing to part with their hard-earned dollars.
Dealers can know next Wednesday how many G8s they can expect for the entire model year.

Guess I'll have to stop by the local Pontiac dealer on the 21st to see what their allocation for the year looks like. I might just give them my card and tell them to call when they get a manual vehicle in.
