Sorry if this was covered already but I can't seem to find XM listed on either the standard list or the option list. Can anyone confirm one way or the other if it will be available?

I really hope it's an option, Bob Lutz even said this car would have XM.

:secret::secret:It will not be available on the '08 G8 which has a short production run (Nov. '07 - Feb. '08) but then it will be standard on the '09 G8 which will start production in Feb. '08.

Good info., where did you get this at? I might as well just wait for the 2009 G8 GT to get XM, but will I be able to wait that long.

This sucks....

But oetikerb2b, let me know how you know.....

??? Where did you read that '09 production would start in Feb '08?

I don't believe thats right. I would think that the 08 production would run up until Late May, early Jun '08.

That's what I'd like to know. I understand if GM is trying to get the car to market, but even to sell '09s, they could selling in Sept. or Oct. That would mean that production would start possibly in June. If Pontiac wants to sell "09" models in May of '08, I have no problem with that. But, they will need to guarantee that options that are scheduled for the '09 model year actually are available.

I agree. Thats a waste, if its gonna be that short they might as well just make it an 09 and offer all the goodies. I think they will lose money because most people will want to just wait for the 09. May be a potential to get an 08 with cheap discounts !

I see no mention of XM in anything current - for the US.

But today I noticed this:

http://gm.ca/gm/static/english/vehicles/2007/pontiac/g8/technology.html

Standard XM Satellite Radio†

† Includes three trial months beyond which service fees apply. Available in 10 Canadian provinces and 48 contiguous United States.

XM in Canada - but not in the US?

This seems beyond weird.....

I know, I would like to get Bob Lutz's take on it. If no XM = he lied!

No XM is hard to believe... My 2005 Vue Redline came with it so why wouldn't a vehicle 3 years newer and 8 thousand $$ more??

What a pisser if it doesn't but at least I have my portable XM unit...

It sounds like what they are trying to do is first bring out the stock Holden model to get it on the market while they expend some engineering work to incorporate the US-expected electronics (XM? HUD? Nav?) into a redesigned dashboard. The '08 will be bought up by the speedfreaks who only care about the 0-60 time and ignore the rest of the car. The '09 will be bought by people who care about the goodies as well as the performance.

How much will Nav cost as an option? $2,000? How much can you get a Nav system from Best Buy (which you can take with you anywhere)? $250 to $450?

That is correct. I bought a TOM TOM XL for $350 and will do anything that the in dash unit will, plus I can take it another vehicle. Does it look as nice, no. Was it worth saving $1700 dollars, yes.

If they don't offer XM, say F' 'em. Get Sirius. Seems like a bad idea since GM had a lot of initial investment in XM. It's another way to get their money back.

+1 GM should be pushing XM in every vehicle they make.

They are planning on giving a rebate coupon or something to that effect with purchasing an XM system. Nothing built in.

I totally am cool with this idea. I've been doing some reasearching on XM tuners for cars / house to hook up in my G8 GT. I'm actually planning on visiting the Sirius & XM booth displays at the 2008 NAIAS in Detroit.

But I like the rebate idea. Any idea of how much?

They are waiting for regulatory approval to merge. The companies and their shareholders have agreed to terms of the deal but the government is holding up the completion. When they do finally merge the packages they sell will be a la carte, like cable or satellite tv. The rebate coupon would work fine for me.

AHHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAAAA! You wanna drive or listen to the frickin' radio?

With the 6 disk changer in the GT I ordered, I can listen to what I want, if I want to. I'd rather listen to the sweet sound of that L76 anytime. I can sit at home and listen to the radio if I gave a sh**.

Limitations are due to what Holden is tooled to produce. If you want the US goodies day one, the G8 would be 1 year later.

The car's headunit wasn't engineered for XM so unless it's redesigned we won't see it. I would say the chances aren't very good considering how popular XM is in Australia and that this is an Australian market car.

We aren't the only ones who have issues with the expected amenities in a $30k car. Others are bitching over at Edmunds too.

Umm, can't we do BOTH? I'm not retired, that means I have to spend time in TRAFFIC commuting. I like to have 200 stations to listen to. Would I rather be zooming down a twisty country road enjoying a thrilling drive? Duh. But most of us need vehicles that are both fun AND practical.

I'm a greedy SOB. I want to drive while listening to the radio. I have such a range of listening pleasures that I can't carry dozens of CDs around with me. Satilitte radio allows me to also hear comedy & some talk that I can't get on regular radio or discs. I have times when I want to listen to the exhaust of my GTO. But, I do love listening to the radio.

Since I'm deaf as a post, I guess the CD player won't do me much good either.

Why sure. I'm not retired either, but I need to keep my feeble ears alert for the sound of breaking glass and crumpling sheet metal in Seattle traffic.
