I'd like to get wider wheels and tires all around for HPDE's. I know I need at least 19" wheels to fit over GXP brakes, and from other posts on this forum 275/35-19 should fit without rubbing, but I don't know if that's just for street use. Does anyone have experience with wider tires on the track?
I'm looking at getting 275-35-19 tires on 19x9.5 wheels with +45 offset and 5mm spacer. I've had experience on other cars where tires that were fine on the street would rub at track days or autocross.
Thanks for any advice,

I believe you can actually run 18's on the GXP if it has the right offset.
I only say that cause I would love to run the Dunlop Starspec (sp?) tire, but they don't make it in a 19...

Lethal_427 use to run 18x10.5 w/ 315/35R18 on all 4. He had spacers in the front and the tires stuck out past the fenders, but it was a rocket around the auto cross.

Lethal sold his g8 and bought an evo. His did stick out and was fast for sure. I'm gonna be running the solo at the Family events center. I'm gonna start out on my 18's I think to save my new tires. I'm going bigger brakes so I'll probably have to do something about my wheels also.

I've seen this run on track a few times. I think they had their fenders rolled, but I don't know for sure.
I will be running a 275-35-18 on a 18x9.5 +45mm (5mm spacer on front) for my track-only wheels.

PS - The main reason I went with the Baer BBK was because it still fits under an 18" wheel. There are a bunch of sticky tire compounds at 18" that just aren't options at 19".

Here is a pic of the car in transition with the 315/30/18's on it with a +58 offset 18x10.5 in rear and the same rim in front but with a 1.5" spacer in front.

Thanks, this is good info. 18's offer a lot of advantage in tire selection, weight, and cost. I'm going to have to take some measurements and do some digging to see what'll fit over my brakes.

I'm looking at the Nitto Nt05's, I'll probably run 255-35-20's just for the track. I sold a couple sets to a buddy of mine who runs autocross and roadraces. His vets both run well with those tires. Right now I'm looking for the right wheels as I can't run the 18's with the big brake kit I'm installing this weekend. So, really is easier for me to just do a 20" wheel since I have to buy tires anyway. I'm not running my new wheel/tires package for solo.

Well I've changed my mind on the wheel package. I'm going to run 18's instead of 20's. I changed over to big brake kit and I've also sold my stock g8gt wheels. I'm going to run a 18x8 up front and 18x9 in the rear. Going to use a set of Kuhmo asx 255 40 18's all around to learn how to solo before I buy another set of tires. Will probably still do the nittos or hoosier tires. April is just around the corner and I might try to make the first event at Gateway Motorsports in St louis on April 1, definetly the April 15 event at Familiy Events Center in St Charles.
