Okay, so no one has mentioned the AWESOME pictures and advertisements on Pontiac, and more specifically our Pontiac G8 in the latest issue of Motor Trend (December 2007 with the new Nissan Skyline on the cover, I still like the R34 body style the best.)

Anyways, there is a 2 page pin up of the car in a sleek black color. And some other shots of the interior, and a nice shot of the rear of the car. But they show it with the high wing spoiler, what a frickin' tease seeing as we can't get it from GM!

I don't have a scanner or would put those shots in this thread, but the pictures are awesome & they talk a lot about possible upcoming GM cars in this issue (mostly rear wheel drive stuff, mostly).

Oh and...........................

Pics and ads are getting old and boring. We all know what the car looks like and how great it is. Its time to see them in person and do some test driving!

Okay, you damn vultures! Here you go.

P.S. Who needs a scanner when you can just take a digital picture and upload it to your laptop. :boink:

Hey luke, you coming over for the GTG at D&Bs on the 18th?

Great feature, will be going to pick that up. There is a Pontiac GOD that's all I can say...

I wonder why the back of the car doesn't have any badges? Nice photography.

Also, based on the fine print - I'm guessing that the red tinted gauges come only with the Onyx/Red interior option.

Yep, looks like an upgraded aero package on these photos.I don't think so, just the angle of the photo, the whole front end seems extended, look at the distance from the front wheels to the leading edge, looks way extended, like a front driver, not rear wheel, I almost thought it was a GP for a second.

Maybe it is all apart of an SAP package like with the 05 GTO's. The only thing that goes against that theory for me is the fact that the grills don't look different from what should be an SAP type grill (inset with different color trim). Regardless, I can't seem to find an emote that justifies the pics. There seems to be no "raging mega-huge boner" emote. DAMN. lol.

Best looking GM car in America next to the new CTS, no contest.

The Commodore's big wing is available as an accessory for the car. They debadged or airbrushed out the rear for their article.

How is the big wing available from Pontiac? I thought I read a post that said it was deleted from the dealer options list? Any one else have some concrete info.?

I hope it's true because I really like the look of the high wing spoiler, especially in these black G8 pictures.....

As posted above, it looks like Pontiac dealers will be carrying a full line of Holden by Design accessories for our G8s. We won't have to go to Aussie vendors to buy parts like splash guards, this spoiler and other good stuff.

I looked at this spread myself tonight and noticed the G8 pictured does not have projector lenses. I wonder why that might be.

I don't think the high beams are projector bulbs. Hard to tell on the mule if the low beam is a projector. The Holden assembly is a projector, so I don't see why the G8 wouldn't be.

Only the SS-V gets Projector headlamps.

Not sure what Pontiac is getting. Maybe GT V8 will get Projector headlamps.

It doesn't have the low-beam projectors.I think your wrong on this one, while the MT pages definitly show non-projectors, all the other shots, including the mini site, show projector beams, as does the shot and movies of the engineering drive cars.

Here is a quote from Dealerworld:

T82Headlamps, halogen, projector-beam with automatic exterior lamp control, flash-to-pass and daytime running

Anyone else notice the following:

1. Speedometer and Tach (along with fuel and water temp) gauges are going to be illuminated in "White" Light - per article
2. The red gauge faces are not tied to the black/red leather option, it is tied to color of car "With certain G8 GT exterior hues, the instrument faces are color keyed to the seat inserts" This means you have to have both the blk/red seats AND certain exterior colors. Anyone know which exterior colors the red gauge faces will be tied to? I'm thinking red, white, and maybe gray. IMO it should be for all blk/red interiors.
3. The steering wheel button graphics have changed, both in design, and meaning, along with two new buttons on both sides the outside edge. Can't tell if there is a trip computer button like on the Aussie cars.
4. Door handles with chrome accent are confirmed on GT only (I'd prefer it without)
5. Radio frequency is displayed on center display (between gauges).
6. Confirmed that tails are red for V6 and clear for V8.

I take it that there are no gauges above the A/C vents when equipped with the 5 inch display, unlike the SS-V which has Oil Pressure and Volt meter gauges.

All models have that Knight Rider display. I hope that eventually they change it so that it has 3 conventional gauges in it's place like the HSV models. I'm sure that will happen on the Series II Commodore.

I didn't think it wouldn't come with them, but thought it was odd they'd photograph one without them. When the car was announced I thought the G8 V6 would not have the projectors and the V8 would.

Are onyx/red seat colors are tied to the exterior colors of the car?

I think the low beams are halogen projector bulbs, but they are not HIDs. The seat colors are sort of tied to the exterior colors, in that the onyx/red are only available on white, gray, black, red (not orange or stealth blue, er purple).

My point was that the gauge face colors are tied to exterior colors, I was hoping that all red seat inserts came with red gauge faces, here is the quote from the ad - "With certain G8 GT exterior hues, the instrument faces are color keyed to the seat inserts"

Hmm, I wonder if the gray rings in the guages seen on the red car are standard, but on some cars it will be black rings (so no color), and red rings on others - who knows, just another open point, I was hoping for red rings with the onyx/black seats and white exterior.

I took it to mean that if colored gauge faces are tied to the onyx/red interior, which is tied to the exterior color.

Given the limited option packages and limited ability to specify the options you want on your G8 (no orders taken/dealers select from pre-built carpools), I hope so too.

I finally had a few minutes to peruse the actual multi-page magazine spread last night at home. [ Thanks for the scans !! ]

I had previously posted this in another thread: “Well – in looking at the pictures of the red G8 GT, the one thing that I found most disturbing . . . is seeing the console shifter & the ‘manumatic’ layout.

“+” upshift is back and “-“ downshift is forward.

Like BMW – but the opposite of all the other sport sedans I have driven with this feature . . .

Odd & annoying – to me.”

But now I see ( in this black G8, that I presume to be more nearly production form ) that the + \ - has been reversed. + is now forward and – is back.

So ( obviously ) they heard my concern – and changed the car to suit me.

( LOL )

Anyway – I am glad to see that. After close to 100,000 miles driving manumatic trans. sedans that work that way ( and about 30 miles of driving BMW 335s that work the reverse ) I would ** MUCH ** prefer this method.

Thanks, Pontiac!

Wow...so they can alter a program to the tranny that will simply swap the +/-?

I look forward to my first drive too. I love my Solstice GXP, but this puppy speaks to my heart. Love V8s!

11-09-2007, 04:06 PM
I remember you posting that before Ray, I wonder if they changed it just for North America. I can't see it being to hard to change the programming. It seems counter-intuitive though, and I think I mentioned it before, in racing sequential transmissions back is upshift and forward is downshift (it follows the weight transfer of the car). Doesn't matter to me though, I want the manual box.

Many BMW owners who had the old versions switched the new versions back to the old style (in my 01 BMW for example, it has it the standard convention, prior to BMW switching it).

Makes sense as the shift lever is basically a switch in manumatic mode that sends signals to the computer.
