I wrote to GM CA about it. They have had press releases but since the initial announcement they have been very quiet about it.

Is the G8 coming to Canada at the same time as to the US? Hoping it's at the Montreal Auto Show in January, anyway.

If not I'll just drool over the Bentleys.

I'm in Canada and I'm seriously looking into getting a G8. Back when Pontiac came out with the Bonneville GXP with the 4.6L Northstar in it, I was the first one in Ontario, and probably close to the first person in all of Canada to get a new GXP. I was planning on getting a G8 for this summer, but GM Canada has yet to even release the ordering codes for this car! I want to replace the Bonneville with a new RWD sedan and was hoping very much on getting a G8. Will it seriously take until next year (2009) for Pontiac to offer the G8 in Canada?? I sure hope not. I guess if worse comes to worse I can always save some and get a 3.6L Malibu and then wait a few years for a GXP G8.

The Bonnie GXP was a sleved Northstar right? 4.0l or 4.4l or somesuch. I guess they frown on just buying a G8 in the states (given your great exchange rates).

Isn't it the same as the Grand Prix GXP 5.3l? I thought it was based on the LSX blocks?

4.6L - 275hp, 300 lb-ft
That torque figure really makes it fun and the exhaust note is one of my favourites on a V8 yet. Very smooth yet burbly when you get on it.

Thanks for the link but, unfortunately, it's not very useful. I signed up here there a while ago and have yet to have gotten an email. Also, I have access to the official Canadian ordering guide and the codes have yet to have been released so I'm sure I'll know about when Canada can order a G8 before that "Pre-launch" websites informs me of it. The GM Canada website is very primative and uninformative as compared to the US site.

Canada should get the G8 - just a little later than the US release.

It looks like the show car was a 4.4l Northstar, but in production they just reused the Caddi 4.7 with the 275 hp cams. Interesting!!

The G8 GT should be about a second quicker to 60 so it would be a great upgrade!

I really like the car for it's RWD platform and I know they build their cars heavier in Australia which is a plus too. I like a nice, big, solid car that will float over the imperfections on our Canadian roads and still handle decently with the sport suspension.

You wouldn't happen to know exactly how much later would you? Do you know anybody that would know exactly?

Yes but it's not officially announced by GM of CA so I don't want to post too much in case anything changes. I couldn't tell you when you'd be able to drive off a lot with one but if I had to take a guess it would be Q3 2008.

A few quick questions, please don't answer if it's against your confidentiallity agreement.
1. will Canadian customers be able to selectively option their own cars or will they have to buy off of the lot? Will Holden ship pre-optioned cars from Australia?
2. approximately when do you think canadian dealers will be able to start ordering G8's. (no pricing, just the codes...I ordered my gxp without pricing, just codes)

Sorry to be a pest, I just want to figure out now what kind of car I should be ordering in the near future so that I can plan what I will be driving until it gets built and arrives. I'm not passing this on to anyone else, I just want to know for my own personal vehicle.
It's a toss up now for me between a G8, '08 malibu, and an '08 CTS.
Thanks for your help.

You may loose your patience.

As far as I know there is a limitation to how they can pre-optioned. There are not many options. A few upgrade packages and a sunroof. And for GT's performance tires. You may have to resort to dealer trading or searching for the your preferred color/option combo.

As far as ordering.... again, it'll be awhile. If your heart is set on getting a few car this spring/summer you might have to go to a chevy or caddy dealer.

And I guess the Canadian dealers got a letter stating there will be no 2008 G8 in Canada. I have yet to see the letter but it cites bumper laws. However GM obviously knows about the bumper laws and designed the G8 with Canada in mind. My sources lean towards an 09 MY G8 for Canada.

Glad I ordered a CTS the other day :) Maybe when my lease on that is up a G8 will be in the cards :P

Hey, you'd hear that less if there was a proper English word in use for "you (plural)". "You guys" just doesn't cut it. I grew up in the suburb/city without ever using ya'll, but I've started using it because at least people know what you mean.
