2009 Pontiac G8 GXP Power Bumped to 415hp/415ftlbs
www.gminsidenews.com (http://www.gminsidenews.com)

The 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP performance sedan is done going through the SAE J1349 dyno testing, giving it its official horse power of 415hp, up from the 400 estimates when the car was first shown at the New York International Auto Show. Torque also gets a bump to 415. The G8 GXP will use a larger dispalcement 6.2 LS3 V8 engine from the Corvette, and yes race fans...a six speed manual transmission will be available for the GXP model along with the standard six speed auto trans. The LS3 is the third engine available for the G8 line up starting with the 261hp 3.6 V6 engine, a 360hp 6.0 V8 engine equiped with the gas-saving Active Fuel Management system.

Already posted in the GXP section. But, it's new, so I guess it's relevant.

But if it is priced wrong, it does not matter. We'll see, because the Camaro is going to give it direct competition.

Direct competition would be the M5 or (domestically) the SRT-8 Charger or 300C.

A coupe is never in direct competition with a 4-door sedan.

I agree, however I think the Camaro is dangerously close to over pricing itself for solid sales. The damn v6 is in the high 20s. That rediculous. I know its the caddy v6 with decent umph, but most people will go Mustang for that price.

The M5 is and $80k car. Now maybe the M3 sedan. at $34k

The G8 (4 doors) M3 (4 doors)

Depends on what your criteria are. One of mine is equal room within all of my choices, so the 3-series BMWs are out (besides, an M3 sedan is $60-$70K, so you're really not doing any better than an M5).

The M5 is in no way GXP competition, no BMW is. But the SRT8s are.

Still, I doubt the GXP will outsell them. In fact at the projected price floating around and given the G8's sales figures so far the GXP is going to be a tough sell.

That bodes well for those who wait and want to get one at a discount.

Yes, that's one instance where high gas prices will be helpful.

Since when do M5s sell so many? At $80K, the true snobs buy those. At $40K, the true power hungry buy 2 GXPs. :gr_jest:

^^^^^ the camaro will take sales from the G8...G8 is selling as it is the first real size, good looking, RWD, real hp/tq from GM in a good while...Coupes (it started as a hardtop, shame it changed) are fun and the price, hp/tq more than the G8, will have exhaust sound, local mfg, being able to order, better paint etc...it will grab sales...both the G8 and the Camaro are a blessing to this crowd..

A Blessing? Try miracle. Look real close guys, because the G8 is the last true muscle car we'll ever see.

Who knows how time will change. Maybe gas will go down below a dollar again, maybe theyll find another fuel source and itll be cheap and burn slow. All i know is that we'll be dead and gone by then, unless someone cares to take a swim in the fountain of youth!:p

The M5 is far more superior in speed, looks and reliability and will not leak\guzzle oil..

SRT8 models are more realistic as well as the enhanced 550i coming in spring 2009 with a new 4.4 v8 with direct injection and twin turbos, 400+hp\440lb\tq and the E550, Audi A8, Lexus GS 460, IS-350 and the BMW 335i sedan.

You could do all bolt-ons and then possibly have a chance at keeping up with a M5 till about 80mph then that M5 will walk ya.

I agree the Camaro is going to hurt G8 sales. A SS with the LS3 is suppose to start around $25. Prices are going to compete with the rustangs.

Not a little low, WAY LOW! If the same engine in the G8 will go for around $40k (with all the bells and whistles) a stripped version in the Camaro will not start at $25K. But nice try, even if a bit of wishful thinking!:wink2:

A stripped version of the Camaro (V6) will start around $25K. I would hope GM isn't stupid enough to have a $5K leap between G8 & Camaro with the same engines.

26k for a V8 which will probably get GG tax? Not saying you are wrong, but do you have any facts to support this or is it just personal speculation??? If so please share with the rest of us.

Some perspective here, a 2002 Camaro SS new was nearly $28K, I know, I owned one. That is 8 MYs ago, plus inflation. It was a basically low tech platform, which is not the case with the new version. Don't know what your definition of "well equipped" is, (don't think Bill Clinton is hiding in the weeds on this!) but you might see a base V6 "well equipped" for under $30K, but no way under the sun will you see a "well equipped" Z28/SS for under/around or near $30K! Especially since they just raised the price of a "well equipped" G8 GT to just under $35K! IMHO that is!:wink2:

Yes but the SS is now the base version of the V8. The Z28 is gone. GM has already announced the SS will compare in price and equipment to the Rustangs.

My BASE 99Z28 was $18k The SS was top of the line 8 years ago. So now just reverse it. :wink2:

Pssssst! Yeah right! I'll stick with what I've said and be hugely surprised if its less! And I don't care which way you play the badging, SS/Z28 or Z28/SS they both are highend V8s and will have the price to prove it!:p

Not yet we aren't! Since none are in showrooms yet, its hard to say what that window sticker will have on it! As far as a "decently" equipped SS under $32K, again, I'll wait for that window sticker before I cry Uncle! And the V6 is the "value" price grabber for the masses. You more than likely wont find a big following in the enthusiast crowd!

I just got an 09 g8 Gt, from an Infiniti g35 coupe, and before that a Bimmer. You all know the G8 rips for 30K, but sucks down the gas, and who know where Pontiac will be in a few years?? That being said the GXP is going to be a tough sell, and im sure a gas guzzler, and how much more do you need than the gt, unless your headed to the track. I know there are people that want one (Including me) but as far as being practical-timing could not be worse for GM. I work for a finance co. that finances a good amount of equipment for GM, we have cut them off, period, so have most all of there other funding sources. Will see...

Just thought you'd like to know they just bumped the prices on Commodore SSV by $10KAUS in the last few days. Also regular SV6 is now available with 18 wheels and leather for $29K AUS drive away price, that also a $10k bump.

Is this like a semi-truck? Tractor and trailer = 18 wheels? That would be one hell of an AWD setup!

I've been seeing GXP's with $40K - $42K on the window stickers. Have a dealership locally that has about 6 or so on the lot right now in different colors. With the cash back, etc. being offered you can acquire one for around $36K if you work it right. Would have loved to get one, but think my recent G8 GT purchase was a much better deal for the $, plus reg. unleaded and no gas guzzler tax.

BTW, most probably already know but here is what the various Camaro models are priced at: Base V6 $23,040, Base SS, $31,040 with a fully optioned SS2 going for well over $40K. I'm still happy I bought by G8 GT.
