I’ve had a lot of little squabbles in the G8 since I got it back in April; I figured I might as well combine some of the kills and losses into one thread. Beware its long. There are some I am leaving out little squabbles don't count and I posted elsewhere about some of the earlier ones.

G8 v. Some heavily modified Mustang that kicked my ass.

So on 696 in between 96 and the Lodge me and some kind of Mustang (current body style) get into it after he speeds up to catch me then paces me while looking over and grinning the whole time. I bite at the bait and we start the horn count at 70 and we get it on. He takes the advantage and is about a 1/2 car length on me but I dance thru traffic much better and get far ahead when he runs into a wall of cars going the speed limit. I slow down assuming its all over and done with but then he then catches up and destroys me on WOT, getting about 2 car lengths ahead before I shut it down to exit on the Lodge. I don’t know what kind of Mustang that was it had a really interesting body kit and the sexiest growl when it took off, and I am pretty sure I also heard blower whine.

So far 0-1

G8 v. BMW 330i (last gen)

No contest I smoked him from the light as he attempted to out muscle his way on to the on ramp on to I-496 in Lansing.

1-1

G8 v. Charger R/T Daytona.

This one I started. I had been looking for a worthy Mopar competitor for some time and I found him heading home from the mall one day. His car was brand new, still had the temp tags on, and you can tell he was proud of his shiny new orange and black Daytona.
We get to the light; I ask him if he wants to go. He agrees enthusiastically, probably not realizing what a G8 is, and thinking he had an easy win on his hand. I had to disappoint him. Slid this boy into Sport mode, took the TC off, revved engine up to 1200, and then took off on him. It was close, real close. I never got more than half of my car in front of him. But I got him at two different lights until we ran into heavy traffic and I turned off on to 6 mile. I gave him the thumbs up and he waved and that was it. Though it is dangerous playing like that on city streets during the afternoon it was exhilarating beating this cars natural enemy.

2-1

G8 v. TBSS v. Mustang 5.0 modded.

TB SS’s are dangerous. The Mustang was no competition; it was all about fending off this stupidly fast SUV. Jefferson Ave. in the city is the perfect street for these types of encounters, it’s wide and straight. I come from picking up a friend from work and I see this Mustang 5.0 I have seen a couple times around town at the light. I’m an idiot, so I pick with him by revving my engine at the red, he does the same and it’s on. I’m thinking I am about to get my ass kicked judging by the mean growl that boy had, but no, it was like racing a go kart, it was too easy. At that point I guess we caught the attention of this kid in a TB SS because he speeds to catch us and line up at the next light. I’m confident now that I smoked the Mustang and I’m thinking that a TBSS should be no problem. Wrong. I launched sloppy and he got the drop on me and I didn’t catch up until traffic slowed everyone down. Now were serious. Music off, launch protocols enacted, and I take everyone off the line but it is still close with the Trailblazer. I’m frustrated at this and we catch another red right before entering downtown. The Mustang and the TBSS guy are talking and I got my windows rolled up ready for combat and when that light changed I destroyed them all. But that SOB TBSS was gaining and fast before I had to shut it down and turn off Jefferson. I figure its two reasons why. My passenger and all her crap weighed me down and that SOB was modded. Never the less I count it as two kills because I won most of the battles.

4-1

G8 v. TBSS (redux)

Different driver same result. This time it was convincing, as I was by myself and I was prepared for it. The thing I don’t like about these trucks is that they are everywhere and more often than not the drivers are really aggressive. Even if it is a tiny little chic, they get behind the wheel of those things and they suddenly think they are a driving God. This one started because Ms. TBSS thinks every other car on the road is a slow nuisance so she must pass all of them from the right. Unfortunately for her, I was the first car at the light, and I was still a little peeved from my last encounter with one of these things. Were off and she tries to pass but I wont let her and I end up flying by off launch. She has to brake to avoid smashing into a parked car and ends up getting behind me. She didn’t like that so she tries to pass again and again I denied her. We play this little game for about a mile before I stop after realizing hitting 110 on a surface street is not the best of ideas, so I let her pass. I look up she smiles and passes and damn she was bad, so I speed up trying to catch her. But she got away after I got cut off by a damn D-dot bus. So even though I won the race, I lost the battle lol.:slap:

5-1

Since then I have been behaving, driving really slow and ignoring other temptations such as ricers in their TC’s or my cousin in a Z4 3.0. Gas is too expensive and the risk of death is too high to play around. The car is bad ass and I have almost everyone I know respecting the power of the G8 so that is enough. I’m still getting it tuned though.

Good post, Mr. Detroit - good kills and well-written. :)

You be safe playing in the street, you hear? :pir_flag: :driving:

Yeah it was a Saleen/Shelby/GT 500 or whatever, I saw one at a gas station recently that looked just like it and I asked the owner what it was. There are too many variants of that car for anyone to keep track but those things look mean and from what I read it puts out some 500 hp stock, so it was a honorable death.

Yeah I'm bone stock, but by next spring that will change. I would do it now but I see no point as I live in Michigan and winter is coming.

And thanks Zaphod B, I'm trying to play safe but it seems as I try to do that mischief just finds me.

Had to have been a Saleen or GT500. We are about even with the Shelby version :)

Yep I've noticed this too about TBSSs. Always seem to be driven like they stole it.
