: Recient Information on G8GT? G8GXP?
SRG963 12-07-2007, 01:22 PM My local Pontiac dealer has told me that they will be able to order exactly the G8GT I want starting January 08 :gears:
Any other news about availability out there? 09 for the GXP version? After market upgrades? Can we use HSV parts on the G8 or parts made for the Holden or Vauxhall?
I love my Cadillac, but this looks like a great car for the money. Just wish the 09 CTS-V was out so I could compare.

There are threads here in which people are claiming they already have put in their order. Look around and you should find them.
No official word on the GXP yet.
A lot of the HSV, Holden, and Vauxhall parts should work on the G8.
There should be a lot of after market parts. There will be a lot of the G8 enigines in other vehicles. In fact, there are already aftermarket parts available. Check out the sponsor on the left.
You can get a peek at the 09 CTS-V in the link below.

Your dealer isn't telling you the whole truth. They cannot special order G8's. They are being built and they get an allocation, say 5 G8's and they have to pick from what is available. They may be able to pick exaclty what you want if it is there, but they cannot order a car to be built like they have been able to do traditionally.
SRG963 12-07-2007, 09:17 PM Wow, GM is Big Brother now? When can we expect to see them on the East Coast? I want one, and I only have 3k left on my lease. That's only 2 months for me, so I hope they arive here soon. and what's the deal with no sunroofs on the"888" versions? I know they leak after 5 or so years, but that's never a problem when you lease.
I've already told the Internet Sales Manager at Griffin Motors of Rock Hill to try and tag a White Hot G8GT with the solid black onyx leather interior, loaded up of course. I don't care if I get the "888" version or a regular production model, I just want one.:gears:

I've never ever had a sunroof leak - unless I left it open. No worries. Aftermarket openings I would worrry about. Why they just don't make the sunroof standard is beyond me as I will no longer have a car (or truck) without one. But, they have teh numbers.
All 888 of teh 888 will have been placed in dealer hands by end of March, and chances are good that the other 600+ from th efirst boat will be as well.
The dealer is blowing smoke for sure if he thinks he can order a 2008 and have it specifically built. It appears the entire model year is being built according to a planned or random mixture of packages and options. That dealer may be able to "tag" his allocation starting in January. But since options are so few, on GT only premium and sport packages, and on base just premium and luxury packages, in addition to sunroof and all-season tires -chances are real good that the car you want is already on the boat.
carsuperfreak 12-08-2007, 05:21 PM I imagine that's kind of what he means - that he can "order" whatever he wants, and the dealer can tag it. I mean, there's only a limited few options, so it's not hard for GM to manufacture all the different optioned vehicles
mike c 12-08-2007, 07:31 PM I was at my Dad's dealership this past Friday. He still doesn't have his allocation to go in and "Tag" a car yet. I asked him if he has ever seen this before in his 35 years (all with Buick, 15 with GMC, 1 with Pontiac) as a dealer. He said this is the first time. Is this how it was when the Solsitce came out?
SRG963 12-12-2007, 09:32 AM :rolleyes:Pontiac confirmed today that the order is in the system and the car has been built as ordered. 2008 G8 GT Magnetic grey metallic, onyx leather interior, sports package and premium package

I know that man. I was just showing how someone else is getting answers about his purchase, and I'M NOT!
Ordering is possible in January. That is the only thing the dealer is relaying.
Is there anyway to get some allocation info? My dealer is in Rock Hill South Carolina. Griffin Motors of Rock Hill.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

The Solstice, The Apprentice 1000, where do I start? The Apprentice, during 4/14/05 broadcast, gave a special website we already knew about to log in and get a code to take into dealership on Fri 4/15. Starting precisely at 2pm EDT the dealers were able to log in and place an order using one of the codes given to potential customers. The servers were overwhelmed, and because of this many dealers were unable to even get past the first screen. Where I went two dealer personnel kept at it. The entire 1000 cars were sold out in something like 41 minutes, more like 21 if you discount the downtime. The program had an issue with zip codes staring with 0 and none of them got into the program (they alloted them a certain # in the next group. Each dealer had to pay ahead of time to participate in this program. There was a big intro party in NYC on the actual summer Solstice, Job #1 was "delivered" to its lucky owner in Detroit amongst much fanfare in early August. It took until late November at least for most of the 1000 to be delivered - some higher #s even got out ahead (there were some issues with extra water testing. There was always and still is option to order a Solstice exactly as one wants straight from the Delaware factory. Timing is now down to respectable weeks comparable to other domestic vehicles.
Now, concerning the G8 there seems to be conflicting info. As I read anything coming across my desk, all 2008s at least are being built according to Pontiac's selective mix, no special orders being taken. That's why the process of "tagging" an existing (or to be built) vehicle. That is definitely the case with the 888, as they are all built and hopefully somewhere between there and here. But withso few options, and colors, everyone has a very good chance at having a dealer be able to tag what they want.

Thats funny, I specifically avoid cars with a sunroof. I'd get a convertible or motorcycle if I liked the sun that much.
any word when the manual six speed will be out

You can make the HSV parts fit if you can find someone who has access to them......here is some conservative pricing in oz $$ for you to chew on though (hsv gts VE)
Front bumper.....a steal at only $1400.00
Front fenders (each) out they go @ $700.00 a pop
Rear bumper.....a bargain at $1650.00
Tail Lamps .......how do they do it for only $700.00 each?
Wheels...........giving then away @ $1000.00 each

Ouch:cursin: They are proud of their parts.
PMD G8 12-13-2007, 03:49 PM I'm hoping we'll see a GXP version at the Chicago Motor Show to go along with the G8 UTE and Wagon versions which will hopefully debut also. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Well, the "Internet Sales Manager" I've been dealing with over at the local Pontiac dealership knows nothing:stickpoke:. The only info he has is that he can order them at the begining of the 08 year (which isn't the complete story) and that he will have to talk to the "guy" that does the ordering:mullet:. I asked if they were able to tag any of the new G8 cars, regular production or "888", for my future lease. It's been 2 weeks with no answer:stickpoke:. WTF. they should know something.
rant.....

Don't you need an HSV vin to be able to purchase HSV parts?
So in USD, (today),
Front Bumper: $1233.54
Front Fenders: 2 @ $616.77
Rear Bumper: $1453.82
Tail Lamps: 2 @ $616.77
Wheels: 4 @ @881.10
Can they really demand that much because of the exclusivity? Or is there actually a good reason why the HSV stuff is so expensive

chiefpontiac 12-16-2007, 03:46 PM I'll wait for the parts that are guaranteed to fit under the G8's hood and nose, not the VE. They'll show soon enough.

The manager I'm working with just got back from holiday vacation with family on Monday 1/7. He is expecting to get the invoice from Pontiac any time.
Of course, to put that into perspective, I am expecting to pinch a loaf any time.
