CMNTMXR57 10-04-2008, 11:13 PM A couple of the Cub fans on this board have said "we'll talk" after the Cubs walked to and through the World Series.
Funny, they don't want to talk now. :D

I'm here. What do you want to talk about, the weather? Or that the Cubs chocked again?
(Edit) Maybe you want to talk about the White Sox?
CMNTMXR57 10-07-2008, 01:39 PM I remarked that I predicted the Cubs would be out quick/early from post season play.
You responded "we'll talk" after they bring the championship home or something along those lines.
So I wanted to talk!
The Cubs were the best team in the NL. To take nothing away from the Dodgers, they played a team that was statistically lesser than they were (based on final season rankings), yet the Cubs rolled over and played dead for the most part, getting their collective a$$es whooped 20 - 6 in a 3 game sweep showing no heart, or yearning to win. In the process they set team records for errors, and their big dollar stars came up with big goose eggs for Postseason stats. My guess, expect that waste of salary, Soriano to be NOT wearing Cubby Blue next season.
On the other hand, my Sox, played a statistically better team (the best team in the AL and arguably, probably the best team in MLB). Yet we went 4 games out of a 5 games series, and while not delivering clutch hitting and/or pitching to most Sox fans liking, we at least put up a fight! We essentially exceeded expectations, considering we were picked to be last in our much more competitive and difficult AL Central division. We showed that we never give up, we never fold, and when our backs are pushed against the wall, we answered the call 4 out of 5 times. Players who up till now, namely Griffey Jr., whom I thought was a big waste of dollars, finally showed why we paid him that money by A) beating the Twins with that great throw from center field, and B) several key hits and defensive plays in the series against the Rays.
However, much like the Cubs, expect us to change. We need more speed to supplement our middle batting order power. Who even knows if Thome will retire or stay. But Crede and Quentin will be back. Swisher is up in the air, and we know Griffey will probably be gone. We also need to desperately shore up our bullpen. That bullpen has caused a lot of Sox fans heart failure in the past month.
At the end of the day, I don't know how much pain you Cub fans can take. If I were a fan, and this happened again, I'd seriously be re-thinking my allegance to the team. Being "Lovable Losers" is ok for a certain period of time. "Waiting until next year!" gets old after 100 years! I know I'd be tired of waiting! After cruising through the regular season like you guys did this season, I'd expect nothing less than that trophy. Quick and early exits from the post season are fine when you're a young and inexperienced team. But this has been the case now for several years. Time to finish the job!
Of course, you could trade in your Cubby blue for South Side White and black and become a "good guy" and root for the REAL Chicago baseball team putting all your heartache behind you. Because I bet we get trophy #2 before you guys get #1.
Gearhead 10-07-2008, 02:15 PM It happens to the Cubs every year. Is anyone really surprised? I won $200 betting it would happen in October again. It's like clockwork.

jimmyban 10-08-2008, 01:37 PM --Sorry busy week for me so I will have to respond quickly to each of your well though-out points:
The Cubs were the best team in the NL. --I agree with everything you say except for the Soriano point...I don't think the Cubs can unload him. However, I expect Lou to throw his weight around in the off season to "fix" the entire outfield, including our right field situation.
On the other hand, my Sox, played a statistically better team (the best team in the AL and arguably, probably the best team in MLB). --I thought adding Griffey was a good move. It's always hard to tell how much these older players have in the tank (see Jim Edmonds). I also agree the Sox looked like they were interested in playing in playoff games.
However, much like the Cubs, expect us to change. We need more speed to supplement our middle batting order power. Who even knows if Thome will retire or stay. But Crede and Quentin will be back. --You need speed and pitching. It's what won the WS for you in 05.

--I will remain interested as long as Lou is around. He does not take losing quietly. Next season could actually be a lot of fun...imagine him benching Soriano...?
Of course, you could trade in your Cubby blue for South Side White and black and become a "good guy" and root for the REAL Chicago baseball team putting all your heartache behind you. Because I bet we get trophy #2 before you guys get #1.
--I, unlike how most Sox fans can't get off the Cubs, hold no ill will for the White Sox. I enjoy good baseball and sometimes the Sox play it. I have finally figured out my issue with actually watching the Sox on TV, and that would be your announcers. Even the B-team TBS guys were 100% better than the Hawk.. Maybe Stone Pony will help next year....
See my embedded points above
CMNTMXR57 10-08-2008, 06:04 PM You don't like the Hawk!!! :D
Actually, he isn't as good as he used to be. Primarily because him and DJ have no report. He truly misses Tom.
Wheras, Ed Farmer losing Steve on the radio side is gonna suck. I like Ed, but Ed isn't a radio person and comes off very "dry" in his delivery and such.
