Curious that PFYC charges an extra $20 for no license plate cutout. And no option for the carbon fiber look?

Haha - yeah, I get it. Didn't think of the scene with him wearing the mask.
PFYC charges the same as Colgan for the "no plate cutout" option. Weird I know - they didn't used to charge for it so neither did we, but we pay extra now for it.
We can get the carbon fiber option, but most people prefer the flat black so we don't stock it like we do with flat black.
Redshift 10-28-2008, 09:13 AM Have any more photos?
No, it's brand new and we were even lucky to get the one that Colgan sent us. Waiting for customers to send them in.
BlueJacket 10-28-2008, 09:14 AM I will keep an eye out for them.
Gearhead 10-28-2008, 10:32 AM I have one on my 2009 MGM G8 GT and so far I love it. Easy and quick to put on and take off.

Colgan Mirror Bras - 08 G8

....if I end up purchasing a new G8 GT in the next few months, the front mask/bra will be on the top of my list of things to get. We have one on my wifes Forester and it's been a life saver on our commute. After more than a year, the paint is in perfect condition (only two tiny chips where the mask doesn't cover). ....although the windscreen is a different story (many pits and was recently cracked by a rock).
Redshift 11-06-2008, 01:30 PM Incidentally, I think Colgan makes the best quality bras and mirror covers on the market. If anyone here needs them for any other vehicle, PFYC can probably help you - just let us know. I'd recommend headlight protection as well. I have this on all of my cars and it is invaluable. Keeps your headlights looking new for as long as you own your car. We carry the Xpel brand which is a 20 mil thick cover. Not even big rocks will cause any damage with it on.
El Tejano 12-01-2008, 11:00 AM For the front end I prefer removable bras as opposed to the clear mask. I had the clear film mask on my other car and though it protected the paint, if the film got damaged it was really noticeable, so my options were to remove the old film and have it reinstalled...cheaper than repainting I know but still a pretty penny out of my pocket.
Considering I have a Red G8 GT I have yet to find a bra with this option:

If any one knows of a site that sells color matching bras for the G8 please share it.

SL says they don't have anything, but if we can get at least 4-5 confirmed orders (pre-paid) we could get one made for you guys. Let me know! They run about $550 for the bra itself.
48548 12-31-2008, 05:18 PM I just got one, and it sucks, if you don't have the license plate, as it doesn't cover the painted part in the middle of the air dam, it looks the same as above, but covers the whole bumper, what a POS, if I paid 20 more not needing a lic plate hole, it should cover in the middle, now the red paint in the middle will turn black from all the rock chips, and the rest will look okay, am I being a jerk or does this make sense? I can take a picture if someone wants one.

bvitaG8 12-31-2008, 05:51 PM i agree, looks like ****...im not a fan of the bras, esp on any other color than black!!
48548 12-31-2008, 06:28 PM The bra I can live with, the red piece not covered up is crap. I left a msg for colgan and we will see what they say about a ****ty bra for 20 more it should cover that piece up.
all car bras suck period...
i didn't even know there was still a market for these... i understand the concept, but damn it's 1983 all over again...
clear bra FTW...

You wrote to us at PFYC.com yesterday (or last night) and our CEO responded:
"Those areas that you speak of that are uncovered are for airflow to the radiator. If you cover them, your car will not cool properly and will overheat."
IntellEDgent 01-01-2009, 12:24 PM IMHO bras can trap too much dirt, salt(obviously only in some states), rocks etc. and that kinda scares me.
Redshift 01-01-2009, 12:27 PM Bras have their place. Properly used, they can protect your car for about 1/4 the cost of a clear bra without any problems. Some people just use them for the highway, some for every day, and some not at all. Just like with any change to your car, there are some people who say they are ugly and look like **** and others who find them useful. Colgan would not be in business if everyone thought they looked like **** and were useless :)
I agree that a clear bra is best (I have one on my car) but for many, many people, a standard bra fits the budget and meets their protection needs perfectly. Some people think clear bras look like ****, so who's to say?
Happy New Year :)
El Tejano 01-01-2009, 02:42 PM I like the car bra's & if taken off often enough to keep your paint clean underneath you should have no problems. The peeve I do have about them though are color choices and material. With today's multitude of synthetic fabrics and materials why not use something lighter yet more resilient?
Case in point (odd I know) So I'm cooking for New Years Eve and my wife had purchased a whole set of High Temp Silicon Bake ware, in blue & red, black. This stuff was both flexible and thick enough to give me the idea of saying "Hey they could mould a car bra outta this stuff & have it color matching" Not only is this stuff light, but it's heat resistant, strong, flexible, impervious to scratches or stains & most chemicals. Just a thought.
48548 01-01-2009, 04:33 PM All I wanted covered is the red area, and the two pieces of the left or right of it could have been removed, they are covering the cooling, the center peice is painted air doesn't go through it, just a thought. I don't see how a piece in the middle which is hard plastic can have air going through it but the pieces on the left and right of it(the bra pieces) are in front of where the air goes through, so I guess that is why I am not an engineer. Can I buy some material and sew a piece on because now it doesn't protect the paint in the middle? Every bra I had on every car, covered all of the painted areas, I can't believe why this one doesn't and has the extra pieces blocking air flow? I am not trying to be a jerk, but if you sell something for paint protection and it isn't covering it all, how is it paint protection? I guess I will have to look at a a different brand or something. Also I am not blaming pfyc, just colgan for a bad design, that doesn't cover the center, that doesn't have air going through it. Sorry if I upset people, I guess I was looking for more complete coverage of the paint, my bad.
PaFromFL 01-18-2009, 12:10 AM I got mine from PFYC also. The missing middle piece is about 2.5" by 5". I'm thinking about sewing a piece of heavy black cloth there to deflect bugs and stones. I too am curious if anyone has tried this before.
48548 01-21-2009, 08:48 AM I was thinking a piece of clear bra material... Might work fine and look better than sewing a piece on.
PaFromFL 01-31-2009, 02:16 PM Maybe some black electrical tape would make the middle piece resemble a GXP. Any opinions on the long term effect of electrical tape on waxed paint and how long it would stay on?
Kinge 02-01-2009, 11:25 AM I had a black Grand Prix GTP and I can tell you that after 4 years of driving, my front end was trashed from road crap. Hundreds of white pits all over the plastic front moulding, grill and hood from small road rocks. Yes, they might look 80's and a pain to take on and off, but I'm seriously going to consider buying one for my new g8 gt.
yianni64 02-08-2009, 09:02 PM I already have a clear bra, but I wanted to know if there is a real bra that covers just the very bottom of the bumper. Rather scrap that than my clear bra and bumper....
bristowb 02-08-2009, 09:54 PM I have owned a lot of cars in my life and never used an bra or anything like it. Never needed to because I have one rule I follow constantly. "If I can read the licence plate in front of me I am too close". I dont tailgate any one. If I need to pass someone I dont ride there bumper I move over and go around them. rocks dont just jumpoff the road and aim for your car, they come from other cars kicking them up from the ground. Back off of them and your ok. I have 20/20 vision so this does not work for you near sighted drivers unless you are wearing your glasses. LOL

I guess all the bugs on the highway hover around the license plate of the car in front of you.

I fail to see what that has to do with rock chips?!

Bugs can also ruin your paint. Bras protect against bugs as well. Bugs do not care how far you are from the car in front of you.
bristowb 02-10-2009, 02:28 PM I generally keep my cars clean at least 2 times a week so i never really worried about bugs.
pokey88 03-11-2009, 12:48 PM FYI..
Purchased this bra from PFYC happy with the ordering, delivery, and quality of the bra. I am too disappointed that the center under the license plate is not covered but happy 98% of the front-end IS covered.
My "plan" is to use it on long trips and highways when resonable to take on and off.
A pain to put on in the cold!...the same as the one I had for my '79 bird.

In the cold, it helps if you warm the bra inside your house first.
NC4stroker 03-11-2009, 01:31 PM If you use a bra long enough, you will see wear on the paint. Not worth it to me. Just get a clear bra, or trade every 1-2 years.

If you leave it on and never take it off and clean underneath, sure. If you use it per the manufacturer recommendations, you can use it for a long time without any issues. A nice coat of polish or wax helps greatly also.
pokey88 03-11-2009, 04:21 PM I'll probably only use mine a couple times a year and not when raining. Only install when clean and after a fresh coat of wax to reduce risk of paint damage.
For me a clear bra is too expensive and too permanent. (can't take on and off at will). I'm not trying to convert anyone just typing my thoughts and intention to use this on my car.
I originally bought one due to a 2,000 + mile trip I'm taking in a couple days.

All input is good input. FWIW, I'm not a bra fan. I have one for my family car, but I never use it. Pretty stupid I guess :)
On my nicer, "fun" car, I have a clear bra on it to protect the fresh front end paint I got done a few years ago. I like that much better, but it was not cheap.

Reminds me of driving around here in NC in the warm, insanely, insect infested nights!!! Back off from the car in front of you so as not to sandblast or chip your car and you get the bug treatment, or tailgate, get chipped and avoid the bugs!
