Sorry G8, you've been replaced... :)

I keep waiting to hear more and more about the new Cadi. I looked at the regular new body style car and was really impressed, so can only imagine one with a V. I can't wait to see the end result on the show room floor.

This vehicle will obviously also come with a gas guzzler tax.. I'm sorry, but what is GM thinking, they'll certainly be able to charge $80,000 for it (compared to an XLR-V at 100k), but realistically, the 361 hp of the G8 would be enough of an increase over the 300hp of the V6, and still would allow them to offer up the awd version with the V8 and avoid the GGT. Out of my league. Even a regular production CTS at between 45k and 50k is a little steep.

I too wonder about a few things here:

1 – Price \ MSRP.
My personal opinion is that the STS-v has been overpriced from the start.
I have driven an STS-v, and I see it as a pretty nice $55K car.
At over $77K MSRP now, even with a substantial ‘discount’, I just don’t see the value proposition.
And the XLR-v . . . well I think that MSRP is just silly.

2 – Gas Guzzler Tax aside, I do wonder about that 3.73:1 final drive.
The STS-v EPA is ( um ) not very good. The 2007 rating is 14 \ 21.
With a 3.23:1 final drive – and the 469 HP S/C NortStar.
I’ll bet the 2009 CTS-v will be rated below 20 for the EPA Highway.
Regardless of income, some people would prefer using less gasoline,
And a longer cruising range.

3 – 4300 pounds.
I suppose this should not be surprising, but I’d prefer less . .

Amazed with the highway MPG of my ( non-Supercharged ) LS2

Sounds like the seats will be significantly better than the near stock Corvette seats that they are putting in the ZR1

"V-Series will offer Recaro performance driving seats, providing excellent support for spirited driving and adding to the luxurious and purposeful interior. These new, 14-way adjustable performance seats include pneumatic bolster controls in the seat cushion and backrest. "

Also don't those wheels look remarkably similar to the Commodore HSV's? The ones that were on the G8 Prototype.

You want the V to have the same engine as the GT?

Anybody else see the family resemblence to the G8?

Completely different platform though.

Not exactly. But I see no need for the G8GXP to crank out 550 hp either. Sure last year's V was 400, so stick a s/c on our engine, hit 420 or so and spread the wealth. Bet the engine and s/c alone would cost $10,000 less than the 'vette engine. On a related note a Caddy salesman told me today he thinks due to the new (actually borrowed from STS) suspension that should keep the rear wheels on the ground that the V might actually trump a 'vette.

BTW, where is the weight gain on this car that is adding over 400 lbs. 2 cylinders and a supercharger should weigh less than that. Puts it almost equal weight with the Northstar 469hp STS-V, which could have been plenty, as well.

I don't get the connection. There's no way GM is gonna put the new V engine in a G8 GXP.

WOW! Kinda cluttered looking.

Its a real nice car. The pistons make it not worth whatever they are charging. To go thru all that work and use crappy pistons in a supercharged 550HP application is just absurd.

Also absurd that the LS7 has crappy-ish pistons on a $70,000 + vehicle. That is more livable because its naturally aspirated.

It'd be neat to see the LSA in a Camaro SS ...but again, crappy pistons = teh suck.

Just read on Edmunds Insideline that MSRP for CTS-V will be $62K base! Quite a bit more than the last version, but will offer a first, A6 with paddle shifters.

Not at a curb weight of 4300 lbs.

Probably not, but remember at the time the GTO got the exact same engine as the SSR, and the base 'vette. A S/C on the L76 would easily pump out 425, plenty enough for a respectable GXP, but at the same time the 6.2 is supposedly capable of same without boost, so, do you build a GXP with max output from a particular engine or do you drop in a buildable behemoth (over 620 in the ZR1)
