: Wheels?
appletonrc 01-12-2008, 06:42 PM I am thinking of getting the 19's with summer tires on the G8 if possible, but I'm a bit concerned about winter. I plan on getting another set of wheels for winter, but what do you guys think there will be for aftermarket wheels? I'm afraid there won't be much by November. I don't really want to pay through the nose for stock 18's from the dealer.
Wheels from down under would be a bunch too - although there were plenty of group orders of things over at LS2GTO.
Thoughts?
BBBBGXP 01-13-2008, 01:04 AM You can always check out Tire Rack for wheels and tires. There are lots of places online. Just check around, lots of places will even take email inquiries.

Good call. I've checked tire rack a few times and they only list replacement tires, no wheels yet.
A quick vendor check (see left) Group A has wheels, the cheapest are around $900/set. I'd rather be down around $600 for a set of winter wheels ($150/wheel)

Being in the Pacific NW, rain capital of the North American Continent, I will be in need of good All Season replacements for the "summer only" provided with the Sport Option. I checked around a month or so ago and found the Goodyear Eagle. Checked it out on Tire Rack and, although new, was rated very high against the longtime winners, Michelin and Perrelli. Thought I might make them part of my "deal" when I order up my G8 GT.
appletonrc 01-16-2008, 09:20 PM Tire rack won't have info for some time. Their response:
Greetings and thank you for the opportunity to assist you,
Regrettably at this time we do not have any fitment information for this car. Due to this we do not have any wheel listings at all. Normally it takes about 4-6 months after a vehicle hits the public market for us to retain all of the needed information and create wheels fitments for the vehicle. I apologize for the inconvenience.

You are right there. However, if you search by wheel/tire size and type/brand, you can get reviews for tires and see lots of wheels too. Done it lots of times, little more work, but you can pick what you like.
appletonrc 01-16-2008, 09:31 PM I'm not concerned about he tires, rather a second set of wheels to put them on. I'd probably go Blizzak for winter tires and use the summer only tires on the stock 19" wheels.

Haven't gone there lately, but have gotten ad emails from them, give a try to SLP.com. They've branched out some since the demise of the Camaro/Firebird times and offer more for more vehicles.:sneaky:
JTSnooks 01-17-2008, 08:34 AM Why not just get some steelies w/hubcaps or something? That's about as cheap as you can get, and you won't worry about them getting messed up.

If you can get steel wheels. Do they have to be hub centric? That is how the aluminum wheels are.
JTSnooks 01-18-2008, 10:56 AM That I don't know, but I would assume you could get steelies to fit anything.
Also, aren't there a bunch of really cheap BMW replica wheels that fit the GTO? I think the G8 has the same hub dimensions/lug spacing, right?

American cars are mainly lug centric, meaning they use the lugs to center the wheel. Hub centric uses the center hub. That said, my winter wheels on the GTO are not riding on the hub - they are BMW wheels, but there isn't any vibration. That said, I don't know if you can do a steel wheel (FYI, the GTO spare is aluminum, not steel)
The G8 has the same spacing, but I believe there is an issue with the hub and lug sizes. GTO wheels can be machined to work, from what I've read.

Been running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S for 5 years in the NW. They are amazingly sticky in wet weather. I am on my 2nd set with 91,000K on the car. They still have at least 60%-70% left on them. Expensive, but worth it to me.
Attorneyguy 01-21-2008, 03:49 PM I put down $$$ last November on a G8 GT with the sport package, so I'm getting the 19 inchers with the summer-only tires. Since I live in Ohio, I will be in the market for some winter tires and rims to carry me from late October to early April.
Will I have a good selection to choose from? I was thinking Blizzak, but haven't found them in P245/40R19. Do I have to stick with that size tire?
Also, as an alternative, could I go with 18 inch rims and winter tires on the G8? That could save money.
appletonrc 01-21-2008, 06:38 PM I wonder what stock 18s will run from the dealer? I guess that is last resort if there isn't anything decent in the aftermarket come fall.
