Anybody check out the new Hyundai Genesis? Not exactly the same audience as the G8, but very interesting.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hyundai says its upcoming Genesis sedan, set to debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, is a $60,000 sports sedan with a price of less than $30,000.
Hyundai's first crack at the luxury market is built on a new rear-wheel-drive platform. Three engines will be offered: A 3.3-liter V6 (268 hp); a 3.8-liter V6 (290 hp); and Hyundai's new 4.6-liter V8. The V8 will pump an estimated 368 horsepower. Both V6s and the V8 are mated to six speed transmissions.
John Krafcik, the company's product development veep, says the Genesis goes against the Chrysler 300 and Pontiac G8, though its engineering targets included the Mercedes E-Class, Infiniti M and Lexus GS. Hyundai is modestly projecting first-year sales of 20,000 after it goes on sale this summer.
Suspension is a five-link front and rear setup; company officials say the rear-drive layout will be the genesis for other vehicles in the future. Hyundai showed a coupe concept using the sedan's platform at the Los Angeles auto show in November.
The Genesis will get what Hyundai calls an industry-best warranty: Five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper protection, 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, and a seven-year/unlimited mileage anti-perforation coverage. Genesis buyers also get 24-hour roadside assistance coverage at no extra charge for five years (no mileage limit), including emergency towing, lockout service and limited coverage for trip-interruption expenses.
That's kinda what I think think too, but Hyundai has come a very long way and now usually rates very highly in most reliablility surveys. It doesn't look as nice as the G8, but it has lots of the bells and whistles that I'm looking for. It will be fun to drive them both.
They're doing it better than some of the Jap makers at the moment.
I read your comment and thought you were talking about the G8. Just remember that Hyundai isn't the only one borrowing styling elements from the Germans. Careful with those stones.
That's why I didn't knock it... just pointed it out. Koreans seems to do it the most, recently, though.
Would have been better if it was closer to the concept:
Too much Lexus in that look for me! Prefer the BMW influenced look.
If this trend continues, by 2009 we will all be required to put one of those magnetic signs on each door to the effect "This is NOT another BMW". :The_Villagers:
You really see BMW in that? I thought right off Lexus, with a little Mercedes, mostly Lexus.:eek2:
More so in the first few pics. It's the overall body shape & stance.
There is no confusing my Bonnie with anything else on the road as they are very rare around here. But, bye bye Bonnie.
The Acura TL looks a lot like the 00+ Bonnies to me.
This Genesis looks a lot like a Toyota Avalon, also.
At least it has a v8 375hp and rear wheel drive.
It looks cheap. It better be well below 30,000 dollars.
I just had to "build my own" since we were talking about inexpensive, dependable transportation in this thread.
This is my Pontified VE, a G8 (chrome window trim upgrade) with the 6.0V8 (chrome door handles upgrade) and the M6 transmission (white wall tires upgrade).
I really can't wait to sign the loan on this one:
Will Detroit ever figure out that Ozzies are cool people with their feces in sequence already?
Yeah, and as Toyota has said. Hyundai is the only car company they fear. Hyundai today is not the same company as the late 80's when they first arrived.
Hundee has pretty much invaded the state of alabama with their manufacturing plants and suppliers...
Lots of friends with late model hundees, and they are definitely not the same company they used to be.
This genesis is very, very interesting.. It will definitely grab the attention of the non-Pontiac-nutswinger potential marketshare of the standard G8.
seven-year/unlimited mileage anti-perforation coverageDoes that mean it's bullet proof?:secret:
But seriously if it is out when I'm ready to buy my next car and the reviews are posative, I'll probably take a test drive.
