: A6 - Ftw
DevilYellow 02-07-2007, 08:51 AM So besides the lousy final gear - the A6 V8 G8's look like they might be pretty sweet.
6L80e > 4L65e
6 gears, potential to be built up to withstand more power than a 4L65e.... not too shabby.
Put in a nice CAM and a 3800 stall and LOOK OUT!!!
dbluegoat 02-07-2007, 08:54 AM def one of the more exciting things about the new car
04IBM GTO 02-07-2007, 11:07 AM Any clue what is looks like.....I guess paddle shift would be asking too much.lol
PMD G8 02-07-2007, 11:13 AM No paddle shift but it does have a manual mode.
nixapatfan 02-07-2007, 11:17 AM As long as the A6 doesn't have that funky delayed shift pattern that most of the newer GM cars have with an A6 it will be good. If it's like the others I hope there is a way to tune it out. Most of the newer A6's flip through the first 3 gears rapid fast but once you are in the last three it's a little reluctant to down shift. GM probably did it for fuel economy, but it's annoying.

Maybe someone will develope a "skip shift" device for it -- or as you say I bet it can be tuned out.

HPTUNERS maybe?:D
speeddemon 02-07-2007, 07:33 PM yeah since I would be getting this as a DD I might have to go A6 :D
nsofokles 02-07-2007, 08:56 PM A6 is gonna be sweet...but the rear gears in the a6 blow...i think they're gonna be 2.92 FTL
6spdG8 02-07-2007, 10:00 PM HPTUNERS maybe?:D
Deffinitely!

Not really. If it has a manual mode then the shifter will have switches for the + gear and - gear. If someone can get creative with the rotational contacts in the coumn, I can see it happening. You may have to give up some steering wheel radio controls, but it's doable.

monaro_gto 02-07-2007, 11:35 PM im definitely thinking A6 this time.
GT086 02-08-2007, 12:41 AM Very nice but I think I would get the M6 still. I made the mistake of getting an auto in the Goat and I don't think I'm going to repeat that.

Thanks, looks good..Man that center stack makes the GTO look like a base model:eek2:
speeddemon 02-08-2007, 04:41 AM I have been pondering the A6 or M6 but I would have to drive both before I make a decision......I assume the M6 is a Tremec T56 like in our GTO's and if it is it is a fine tranny but the shifter might suck yet again :shiner:

Different M6 tranny then GTO(T56), thats why the A6 will ship first..

It's still basically the same though. It's just from what I understand a newer model T-56.

Well there are quite a few versions of the T56 already example Viper/Vette so I guess. Gearing will be different and produced after the first run(from what I have read)

Look at it this way you already have the GMM, so it's one less mod to buy.
Padre 02-08-2007, 09:50 AM Hmm. I wonder what kind of rear diff we're looking at? I still have my 3.46's from the GTO. That might be a good upgrade if they fit.

McPhee 02-12-2007, 02:26 PM Is the 6L80 basically the RWD version of the 6T70? If so, the tapshift works pretty well. I tested an Aura XR that had that.
rayainsw 02-27-2007, 12:51 PM So besides the lousy final gear - the A6 V8 G8's look like they might be pretty sweet.
The 2.56 final drive was initially the one & only ratio offered with the A6 for the 2006 MY for the Corvette Coupe. That continues in MY 2007 ( mine ) – though there are rumors that there will be another final drive offered with the automatic for MY 2008.
The 6L80 trans. has a rather wide ratio spread, first to sixth.
And compared to the manual trans., with Z51 ratios, the overall ( final drive ratio times first gear ratio ) =
3.42 * 2.97 = 10.1574:1 ( MZ6 \ Z51 gearing for the manual trans. )
The A6 overall first gear ratio =
2.56 * 4.03 = 10.3168:1
This is an aggressive launch gear ratio.
My automatic is geared almost exactly the same as the manual six speed in top gear: 70 MPH = approx. 1550 RPM.

Happy with the gearing, in this application . . .

rmpage 04-09-2007, 04:17 PM How difficult would it be to replace my 4L65 with a 6L80 once it bites the ****ter?
TriShield 05-04-2007, 11:54 PM Mine will likely be an A6. Aussie reviews seem to agree the shift logic isn't perfect, hopefully GM will fiddle with it some more before releasing it in the US. I like crisp, fast shifts with a little kick from automatics.
speeddemon 07-10-2007, 05:34 AM Billet products already has a short throw shifter out for the M6.....I may lean that route :D
