For the GT's 6 speed auto, it lists Driver Shift Control and Sport Mode. I'm guessing Driver shift control is the bump up/down autostick feature. So what is sport mode?

I'm guessing it electronically bumps up the line pressure to give you harder shifts for aggressive driving. :yumyum:

On my 92 Bonneville (granted it may be completely different now) it switches to a more aggressive shifting table across the board, and raises WOT shift points a couple hundred RPM.

My '94 Trans Am auto had a sport shift button that made it shift much firmer. I loved it. But looking at pictures of the G8, I don't really see a dedicated button or way of activating this sport mode. I hope it will result in firmer shifts, that would be awesome.

From my Corvette owner's manual - with 6L80 automatic trans.

"SPORT MODE (S): When in SPORT MODE (S),
the transmission will work as an automatic
until you use the Manual Paddle Shift Controls,
which activates the driver manual gear selection.
See Manual Paddle Shift later in this section.
While in automatic SPORT MODE (S), the
transmission computer determines when the
vehicle is being driven in a competitive manner
and will select and hold the transmission in lower
gears and have more noticeable upshifts for
sportier vehicle performance."

Sport mode just rev's out higher and has different shift points.

Also has the ability to be programmed with a different level of torque management and shift time/speed :D

Oh, okay. So sport mode is engaged when you push the gear shifter over to the right. And it will stay in sport mode until you bump it up or down which then puts it into shift control mode. Sounds good to me!

"Sport Shift Mode
In the Sport shift mode, the transmission
will delay upshifts and allow earlier
downshifts to enhance performance.
• To activate Sport shift mode, move
the shift lever to the right of the Drive
(D) position. Do not move the shift
lever up or down to the + or – position;
otherwise, Driver Shift Control
will be enabled.
The current gear is shown in the Driver
Information Center while the transmission
is in the Sport shift mode."

Thanks... I also wanted to know but was too embarrassed to ask the question and too lazy to read the manual.

Do you have to be at a stop to put it in sport mode? Also, could you just leave it in sport mode all the time ?

You can sit there and switch back and forth to your heart's content... stopped, rolling at 5mph, cruising at 130mph... doesn't matter.

Is it true that AFM (DoD) is NOT enabled in Sport mode (or manual shift mode, for that matter?

Is it true that AFM (DoD) is NOT enabled in Sport mode (or manual shift mode, for that matter?AFM is enabled in Sport Mode (and normal drive fyi).

However, I have yet to get AFM to activate in manual shift mode.

AFM is enabled in Sport Mode (and normal drive fyi).

However, I have yet to get AFM to activate in manual shift mode.

AFM becomes active more often that I had expected. And I can't really notice it at all!
