Had a little meet and greet with the program guys this morning, he confirmed that no manual will make it here for the 2008 model year but it WILL be here during the 2008 Calendar year IE 2009 MY. He also confirmed that Canada was in the pipeline for 2009 :)

Hmm, I was figuring as much about the manual.

If GTPprix (Chris) says it, then it is so! ;)

Any word of a GXP or the G8 ST (Ute)???

That's awesome, thanks for the final word Chris.
There was a little bit of doubt in my mind that the 6M was coming in '09, but I'm so glad it definitely is now.

By the way, this is my first post. I guess I should go introduce myself in one of the other sections. :gr_jest:

Any word if they're going to pull a GTO and put the LS3 in it standard next year?

I went along with Chris this morning and had a blast - thanks again to Bob Sellers Pontiac/Buick/GMC for putting the event together!!

I believe the exact quote from the program guys was: 'The manual will be available late, late this calendar year' so yeah, 2009 MY in December 08.
I highly doubt they would drop a DOD motor which only gets 25mpg highway and put in the LS3 as standard... however when asked if CAFE totally killed a GXP possibility there was a wink and a 'no, it didn't kill everything, there will be options'

A few more notes:
Nav will not be an option as it does not meet US regulations because the screen height is too low on the dash.

The fuel door opens by pressing on it like the new CTS

The GT displays volts and oil pressure in the top window in the center of the dash, the sedean G8 (i.e. V6 model) displays radio information there. Oil pressure is unfortunately remaining in Bar.

A late change was to use the performance suspension standard on the G8 sedan model not just the GT because 'it worked so well on the GT'

The 230W Blaupunkt (standard in GT) is way better than the one in the GTO and is pretty adjustable - even the preset equalizer selections were very good.

And best of all -pictures coming soon!!!!

Oh yeah
8 cupholders (after all, it is a G8). One in each door, 2 in the front center console and 2 when you flip down the rear pass thru.

The passenger glove box is 2-tiered. When you open the door there is a hard box in the dash and an area below it on the door part for papers.

There is an Ipod jack in the 230w sterio- I forget if the base radio has one

I'm 6'4" and usually have headroom issues in cars but had no trouble even in the back seat of one with a sunroof!

Annnnd there is a dead pedal for the driver

I'am about 6'4" as well, so how was the leg room in the drivers seat? Roomy for us tall guys or not?

What kind of tires were they running on the GT. Pics posted so far look like Bridgestone Potenzas. Any word on an upgrade from "summer only" to a "quality" all season for those of us in the wetter states?

the standard GT (and V6) 18" tyres are all-season, just the optional 19" GT rims have the summer-only Bridgestones.

it's built for Australians, not Japanese or Europeans :D so plenty of room for big guys. i'm about 6'2" and have no issues at all, front or rear, even when theres someone taller in the drivers seat

Would it be stretching things by asking if the availability of the LS3 (GXP) and the availability of the 6MT will happen at the same time? Since we know both the GXP and the 6MT are both coming for the 2009 MY, is it too much of a stretch to suspect that we'll see the 6MT when we see the GXP?

Maybe I'm assuming to much, but it seems to make sense... The GXP was, to my knowledge, always supposed to be released in the 2009 MY. The 6MT was supposed to be a "late availability option", but it now appears to have been pushed to the 2009 MY. Seeing as the GXP will be the "enthusiast" model, it makes sense offering the 6MT there first - at least in my book :)

Chris White & BowDawg: Thanks for all the good information! I can't wait to see the pictures. Especially shots of the interior of the car.

I hope some people have some modding / aftermarket ideas for the volts and oil pressure gauge area. There's gotta be something more relevant than those gauges right?

Has anybody thought of any ideas?

Anyways, I can't wait to see the pictures.... :boink:

I just found this board and decided to add what I have learned about the G8. I was lucky to be in Sydney this fall while the auto show was going on there. I spent lots of time in the Commodore models. At 6'7 I was interested in the size of this car. I own a 96 Caprice with the LT1 and love that car for it's size, V8 power and rwd. I was very impressed with the VE Commodores. It has tons of leg room, I had the seat all the way back and it was to far back and I had to move it up some to feel comfortable. But the thing that I liked the best was the "greenhouse". It has very nice visibility. The windows on the belt line come down farther than any new car out there. One of the things I don't like about the Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 is the small windows that are hard to see out of for a guy like me.

And for what it is worth, I talked to a Holden specialist about car. He told me that the 6 speed manual is only going to available in the GXP.

Ryan - did you read my "review" at all?

And the Sedan had the base radio. Upgrade to the Comfort & Sound Package and the Volt/Oil Pressure will be in the center stack.

For $150 you get the exact same P245/45R18-96V that come standard on the V6. Not exactly going to be the highest performance all-seasons you can buy, but consider any alternative will be $150 x4 , not just x1.

Here is what's available in high performance and ultra-hp in standard size.

If you live in the snow belt, then snows are a really good idea, and skip the all-season tires on the V8 (too much torque for all-seasons to really work). If you are in a fringe area, the all-seasons may work for you where you get the rare snowstorm, and temps are not generally below freezing. FYI - summer tires get real hard below freezing and can slip and slide in the dry, almost like you are driving in the rain, only it isn't raining, trust me, I know from experience (but I don't drive in the snow with them).

I agree with the need for dedicated winter treads as I run 4 on my GP/GTP , but have yet to install on my 2wd Colorado (will prolly happen this week). But I also am very leery of true summer tires in rainstorms.

But I also am very leery of true summer tires in rainstorms. There are plenty of summer only tires with great water capability, the summer only tires you have to worry about are the "R" compounds designed to be a street legal auto cross tire, those have low tread depths and very large tread blocks which do not evacuate water well. Basically, they are "street legal" racing tires designed for one thing only, dry grip:secret:

The summer only blowstones RE050A's (at least on the 19's) are designed for 3 season use, which means no snow, but rain is ok.

Here is what Bridgestone says on their site:

The Potenza RE050A Pole Position comes loaded with race-inspired technology: UNI-T for outstanding wet and dry traction, a tread pattern that promotes rapid water evacuation, variable dimensions in the tread blocks, and a smooth shape to reduce noise. An asymmetrical pattern in the RE050A Pole Position tread increases surface contact to enhance acceleration and cornering. Put this Potenza through the paces and discover what ultra-high performance really means.

Hopefully there will be a manual option on the V6.

Not counting on it, but it would be nice.

I'm an athletic 6'4" and sat in the G8 at the Detroit Autoshow. I was surprised by the interior room coming from a Bonneville. It definately has more leg room. I really don't like how my right leg hits the corner of the radio on the Bonnie now. The G8 is way more comfortable with seats that have excellent bolsters.

I went to one of the dealerships in edmonton and got some info,
the manager said that it'll b here late May early June, the V6 is priced at almost 34,000 for the base and the GT is around 38,000 the guy printed me a quote for a fully loaded GT and came up to be a bit less than 41,000 and said that thats the MSRP! :ohsnap1:
Im waitin for a GXP and still hopping that it'll be less than 45,000, cause thats wat the bonnivelle and the prix GXP's were priced for!

Actually, I have a Bonneville GXP and the MSRP on it was a little over 51 grand CDN. I'm assuming that the G8 GXP will be higher than this being that it comes so nicely equipped.

So, I could expect the Loaded G8 to be under 40,000 possibly? Since the extras will probably be under 3,000.

I've seen many things about people getting on GM Dealerworld. I thought you had to be a dealer to do this. Or can anyone sign up for an account to at least go on there and look. If anyone has an answer to this, let me know.
