: OK, somebody spill the beans
davidrab 02-07-2007, 09:28 AM I like the G8 overall, but am a little disappointed with the GT's L76 (only a
little).
So who knows (I know somebody has some ideas;) ) what and when we are
looking at a GXP? I think DY mentioned '09 (so I assume late '08).
If it's an LS2, I think I would be content with the GT's L76, but if we are
looking at an LS3 or something else, I might have to wait. I personally think
anything more (LS7, etc) is not in the cards (and I probably wouldn't want
to pay for it anyway).
The lease on both the TBSS and G6 are up early '08 so I am hoping we have
a better idea before then.
I wouldn't that disappointed to get a GT and have a GXP come out soon after
that. I bought my '04 GTO about a month before the '05 LS2 was announced,
but with the price I got on mine, I couldn't be pissed.

dbluegoat 02-07-2007, 09:29 AM it wont be an ls2 or ls7, both engines are being phased out
there is an ls3 coming and another hi-po engine thats 6.2l and blown but thats probably what the vette will get.
something like a ls3 wth 425hp would be pretty nice. I would love to see a 450 version but they might reserve that for the next gto if there is one and the high end camaro
nixapatfan 02-07-2007, 11:21 AM If GM is smart they'll give it the same engine as the top Camaro and GTO since they all target different demographics.
6spdG8 02-07-2007, 10:25 PM The LS3 is looking very likely but something tells me it will be a different designation to keep it away from GTO territory.
I say this but GM whored the LT1 everywhere when it was the performance engine.
GT086 02-08-2007, 01:09 AM Hopefully it will have more power than an SRT Charger or 300.
Whatever the top of the line engine, it should be available to a wide selection of cars. Just like all previous versions of the small block was throughout its lifetime. Different car lines, different buyers, different performance numbers just from weight alone...makes good business sense to use the same thing in many models.
pdqgp 02-08-2007, 09:40 PM I don't think they will consider the LS2 or LS3 unless it has DOD. Sales would likely go well if there's a gas guzzler tax on a auto tranny sedan.

tmoneyr007 02-09-2007, 07:20 PM My guess is..
LS3 for top end Camaro, GTO and base Vette 6.2 11:1 Comp 440/420 range
G8 GXP L92 with VVT 403/415 range 10:5 Comp
All of the above are gonna use the new T6060 (I'd like to hear what kind of clutch they are gonna use, LS6, LS7, etc) or the 6L80
white rider 02-10-2007, 01:15 AM What would you guys say to a Ponticized HSV GTS for the GXP version with Magnetic ride control suspension for close to $40k?
04IBM GTO 02-10-2007, 01:33 AM What would you guys say to a Ponticized HSV GTS for the GXP version with Magnetic ride control suspension for close to $40k?
Too pricey for a pontiac,but I would pay $40K for a Coupe4 in a heartbeat ;)
What are the advantages of a "Magnetic ride control suspension" ?

There are magnetic particles in the dampers that change dampening properties with the flick of a switch. I belive the z06 has it as well as some Ferraris. $40k may a appear on the high side but unlike engine and brake mods, u cant just bolt on this tye of suspension because it would be very very costly to tune it properly, this is where most of the money goes.
Cheak out the GTS on http://www.hsv.com.au/ - there are various extras that may make a 40 grand GXP worthwhile, guage pods, highly bolstered seats, ls motor, bodykit HID lights, distinctive LEDs on the back, bigger fender vent, 0-60 in under 5 sec, faster transmission ****s, better brakes but mostly that high end suspension system.
I guess if the point of the GXP designation is to take a car to its maximum performance potential then this would have to be pretty close.

Better cost less than the SRT8 line up because they will be well established by then.
dozlert 02-11-2007, 09:59 AM Well, after the past state of the union speech, we may be getting less than we are hoping for. Time will tell.
TrueBlueAussie 02-11-2007, 03:40 PM What would you guys say to a Ponticized HSV GTS for the GXP version with Magnetic ride control suspension for close to $40k?
There are rumours here that HSV will be exporting to the U.S.A so dont be surprised if it is as you say. May also end up as say a performance division for Pontiac as HSV (Holden special Vehicles) are for Holden.a invento
Does anyone in the U.S. of A have a invention that would start up rain as we are desperate for it over here in Victoria. Too Bloody dry here for too bloody long.
chiefpontiac 02-12-2007, 04:10 PM You need The Rainmaker http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rainmaker_%281956_film%29

Assuming there even IS an SRT Charger or 300 in the near future. Chrysler's in big trouble...

Yeah, it's tuff all over...

I would say, as I did last year when buying a daily driver for the wife, "Hello Inifiniti G35X!" AWD simply must be an option on these things.

I think there may be some truth to this. Instead of HSV I bet they will call it GXP. They are now calling the rolex series racing cars Pontiac "GXP-R's" not G6's. I thought this was odd but if they are starting a special vehicles division this would kind of make sense.
chiefpontiac 08-27-2007, 07:00 AM Could this underhood pic, click link (http://www.g8power.com/forums/showpost.php?p=893&postcount=1) be a development mule of the GXP? Note the size of that K&N filter that obviously lines up with functional hood scoops. Also note the removal of chrome around the nose. This is not your ordinary G8 GT, boys and girls. Not sure which site it originated at, but this is not the same vehicle as photoed at Woodward.
No, wait a mnute, that's a GTO nose, the openings are too small, and the air filter is too far forward to work with the scoops, looks like a 4 door Monaro/GTO; not the Torano based G7, is it. And why two air intakes? (stock box on left side (right in pic) is still connected)
The VXR8 (HSV Clubsport) in the UK get LS3 from April 2008:burnout:and an option of Magna ride BUT the real special is the LS7 limited edition which will arrive in the UK in summer 2008,
with new bodywork, trans and suspension.:fawkdance:
I thought I read in another forum that the car was a Holden and they were using the car to designed a CAI for the G8.
chiefpontiac 08-27-2007, 05:43 PM It is a Holden, HSV of one type or another, with the 6.0 engine (clear in one of the pics). They have pre-production cars taht they can do CAI engineering on and due to the differences in the nose/hood I think this setup is Holden specific.
johnh 08-30-2007, 04:42 PM Rumor mill still say GXP 09 with LS3.
Nice orange pontiacs there Orbital....;-)

Disappointed? I actually like the L76 over the LS2 for this car. Think about it, because of the AFM and DoD, this car will avoid the gas guzzler tax. Also consider the fact that the L76 is even more mod friendly than the LS2, click here (http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/tech/0702gm_ls2_engine_l92_heads/) to see what i mean. With relatively few bolt ons, you're looking at 500 whp. All this for under $2000 most likely.
OKsweetrides 09-04-2007, 05:35 PM It's going to be interesting, but why hate the block?
They all have the same effective limit on horsepower... it's just how you get to it.
However, MyGoatBites has it right, the LSX block may be the way to roll when people start making highway killers. Hmm, so many choices, 454LSX w/ 400 shot, twin turbo's, nasty supercharger, the sky is the limit!

That is an HSV Clubsport or GTS. The nose is the giveaway. Other than how the filter boxes attach to the fascia, that could work on the G8.

You suck. Between the VXR Monaro & the VXR8, you are almost having more fun that the Aussies. If we don't get a GXP model here in the States based on the HSVs, I'm gonna be pissed. :soapbox:
