: WHEN we get the 6 speed
Will it have AFM? I don't really have a problem with the system, but the word on its availability seems to be iffy at best when paired to a manual trans, although I am not sure from a technical aspect that it can't work with a manual. Any news from GM I've missed?
Ramsesiii 01-22-2008, 05:15 PM As far as I know, the 6 Speed will arrive in Model Year 2. I don't know the particulars of whether it has AFM or not. I think the delay had something to do with it, so I'm assuming that it will.
Perhaps someone else will know about that one. But expect MY2 for the manual.
sccaGTO 02-10-2008, 08:24 AM From what I've read, AFM would not work with the manual. I've read that the manual is being held up because of production capacity. Perhaps Tremec can't keep up with all of the different cars that they supply transmissions for.
Cool_Hand_Luke 02-10-2008, 07:15 PM If it's a capacity problem...
IT just shows that someone underestimated the need / delivery rate needed to supply people who like Manual transmissions in their vehicle.

That would be GM. Holden sells more Commodore manuals than we could imagine. America has become almost lazy, so they want ATs. True, everyone has a reason for wanting the AT, but Pontiac believes that since this is supposed to be a "loaded" car, it should have AT. I'm glad that we are being offered an MT, but they need to hire some more people or build another facility or something.

I think it is Tremec. The manual in the Challenger is held up by the same reason, shortage.

That was what my last sentence was supposed to imply.

No problem. I interpreted your last sentence to mean GM and not Tremec. To be honest, I can't decide if it is a shortage or only that Tremec has been slow in getting the 6060 out as a new product.
Anyway, it has been too long in getting here.
Chip
sccaGTO 02-11-2008, 06:11 PM It could be Tremec not keeping up with demand. The 6060 is in the Shelby GT500, Viper, ZR1, & gonna be in the G8 & Challenger. The G8 would be the biggest seller of those trannies.
SPARKYBOY5X8 04-30-2008, 10:22 PM The AFM in the automatics was not thourougly tested and is the primary cause for the shifting and drivability issues in the automatic. Also, AFM has been proven in the large suv's to almost never come on and when it does, it does not work well. GM should not have wasted $$ on this POS!!!! AFM BS. I'd also never, ever buy a new car in its first year or two, so that means those of you that did can fork over all the $$$ to work out the bugs for the rest of us. I'd rather have a reliable car than the FIRST model.

That's funny my AFM comes on quite frequently.
G8 Ray 05-01-2008, 06:25 AM Since the car came with a warranty, I won't be forking money over to have it fixed. I'm gonna fork over money to make it faster though.

The AFM seems to work pretty well to me, gets me better gas mileage than any other engine out there this size that puts out this kind of power. Plus it keeps the car out of the gas guzzler tax. And just in case you didn't notice, this car has been in production for years. It ISN'T the first year model. Yes, its the first year under the Pontiac badge, But the car has been built and sold before.

It's also the first of this chassis with AFM, no Commodore til now has had it.
And confirmining what this thread started out about - 6 speed manul will not have AFM, 1. because it is only available on GXP, 2. LS3 does not have AFM.
ima_stocker 05-05-2008, 03:30 PM As long as Tremec keeps the same level of quality and reliability, I don't care if they need another few months. I have more patience than deep pockets.
mmmmm.....T-6060.....domestic Getrag....
