I have been realy thinking about trading in the GP for a 05-06 GTO and then trade that in on a G8 GXP when they come out. I just can not find a good price on a used 05 around here.

No he isn't... it isn't ALL about power. While the interior of the GTO is nice, the G8 will be better...

Listen to ANYBODY from Australia who has a VY Commodore who has test driven or bought a VE... they will tell you how much superior it is to the model it replaced, which you know as the GTO. Hell it should be, it's an all-new car.

As for saying four doors are for old people... perhaps, but tell that to the guy flying past you in a BMW M5, Caddy STS-v, Caddy CTS-v, MB CLS63 AMG, MB E55 AMG, MB S65 AMG... and the list could go on and on...

Don't forget that all of the cars I mentioned can be modded as well. Hell, more than half of them had forced induction so they can be modded with a simple pulley swap or boost controller, depending on the application.

And most modded GTOs I know would still have a helluva time with a 500hp M5, 469hp E55 or 612hp S65.

Yeah, I see the G8 as a totally different car than the GTO. It will compete with Lexus, Infinity and BMW. It is a "classy" cruzer that you can take out to dinner all decked out with another couple. It will be impressive and will look right in a parking lot full of the world's best high class sedans.

Well, I'm a used '03 Silverado owner here. Traded in my '88 Knight Rider T/A for it. I've been following the GTO world since '04 and always wanted to own one. Maybe when the G8 comes out, I'll have a helluva dilemma. New G8 GT, or used 05-06 GTO...providing some GTO owners will trade in for a G8.

I have a 99 Buick Regal GS and a 2004 Pontiac GTO.

I do feel that I myself am a Buick man at heart. I have owned a turbo regal in the past. Gotta love the torque of the L67. The G8 however is much more connected with the GTO than a Grand Prix and I feel that many GP people will come to the G8 as they did with the GTO.

The Pontiac 6000 is one of those cars that has always intrigued me. Was it an AWD? What size engine did it have? I'm guessing the ****ty 2.8L V6.

Since the GP owners are a minority (or less prone to answering polls) do all you GTO owners plan on giving up your 400hp for 4 doors or are you adding to the fleet? Keep in mind that on paper a stock G8 GT will only see taillights of a stock 2006 GTO LS1. (hp and weight) Me, I'm excited because the G8 is GM's answer to Nissan, Toyota and Chryco, and slams the gate in Ford's face. But I'm replacing a sedan with a sedan. I bought a second GP after testing a Jag X-type and realizing there was nothing there other than Connoly hides and Burl walnut, things I could do without.

Mine only had 350HP stock ;) Plus it's a 3 year lease with a 19,500 buyout(way below market value) so since there is no new GTO's it's a used GTO or a new G8 in the works...

GTO owner. Seriously considering the G8 but not until a have gto for a while, keeping a new car for less then 5 years or so just seems mmm wasteful. As for the less power thing, the torque rating i saw was within 5 or 10 ftlbs, and we all know thats what really matters. (Besides my previous car was lumina with a 4 cylinder in it).

I have an 05 GTO + an 01 Grand Am. My GA is comparable in speed to a GTP so I think that counts as owning one of each. I still choose the handing of my GA on H&Rs over the GTO. Everything else? Well thats a different story.

Had a 98 Regal GS and that car was fun, for a FWD'er. Currently have a 2005Garage Queen GTO and 2006 G35X. Just bought a 2007 Silverado Classic for winter driving. Will be interested to see what a G8 GXP looks like, but unless it has AWD options, will probably buy the wife another Infiniti G. The GTO stays with me for a long, long time.....!

In 15 years, there will be precious few low-mileage GTOs in showroom condition that haven't been beat on. You better believe the value for this very small group among collector's will be high.

I hope so. I will definitely have my GTO then, but it will probably too high of a low mileage car. I put 2,500 on that first summer and only a couple of hundred miles in the 2 summers since. 15 years from now I'll probably be at 4,000 miles, but it will definitely be showroom condition.

On the contrary, now you'll get a RWD and drive your self into trouble (assuming you disable the stability control). FWD is easier to recover, just hard to drive faster.

I had both until my GTP bit the dust a month or so ago. I replaced it with a Bonneville GXP though. It lacks the “burst” acceleration my GTP had but makes up for it with infinitely more room and refinement and MUCH better ride quality.

True dat!

So many have grown up knowing nothing but fwd. For those of us that grew up on rwd the new models with traction control can be just as frustrating as the difficulty of shifting from D to R without hitting the brake (for rocking to get unstuck) But I spent this last winter in a rwd with TCS and LSD and found very little trouble getting around - there were times I hit the off button just to get out of the driveway but once on the snowpacked roads I was fine.
