I just got back from the NAIAS in Detroit and they weren't giving out any brochures. The guy at the said that if I give him my address that he could get one sent to me. Boy, the G8 looks SPECTACULAR to me. The interior also has more room than a Bonneville. Not surprisingly, there was a very enthusiastic crowd around the 3 G8's there and a line was forming to sit in them. The look so good in real life and bigger than what the pictures make it seem like.

I just got back from the Auto Show in St Louis. They had a Great looking Black G8GT on a turn table with the drivers side doors open. The car was awsome!
Pontiac had a good size crowd looking at the G8.
I too asked for a brochure and was told - by a pretty hot girl that if I gave her my name she would get a brochure in the mail to me next week.

I'll post some picks on the site Sunday.

Since we still do not have a scanned copy,
anyone who has one, please tell me:
Since I have read the ( not for customers ) document.
And the 2 page 'glossy'.
Is it worth a special trip to my dealer to ask for one?
Or is it best summarized as a rehash of what we have already seen and already know?
Thanks,

What was being given out at the auto show (and they were out of them) in Detroit was the trifold.

'THE first shipment of Australian-made Pontiac G8s arrives at Benicia, a port close to San Francisco, in two weeks.

It left Adelaide on November 28, ready to begin the next big chapter in the history of the Australian car industry'

If you want the online brochure for the Aussie version go to
http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/featurelist?modelid=4005

The version you guys will get is almost identical to the Commodore SS or SSV. The SSV has leather and some cosmetic changes to the SS but the mechanicals are the same. Download the PDF for a high quality digital version.

We pay heaps more than you will for the same car so you're getting a bargain. I have an up spec of the Commodore SS made by HSV (Holden Special Vehicles). Have a look at the latest one at www.hsv.com.au
19 x 8 front and 19 x 9.5 rear standard and 410 horsepower! The GTS has magride suspension and is selling like nothing they have produced before, HSV sales have almost doubled since the VE Commodore releasE.

Enjoy the G8, it's a top ride!

I'm not up with the run of the mill cars that are on offer in the US but I get the impression that rear wheel drive is a rarity, is that the case? Nothing like a dose of rear wheel steering!

I picked up a brochure from the dealer today. Very nicely done double fold-out with a lot of info and pictures. One of the best brochures I've ever seen Pontiac release, so definitely worth the trip to the dealer.

I gotta tell you though, that the color chips in the brochure don't look anything like the colors shown on the G8 website. The Stealth Blue Metallic looks like a very nice blue in the brochure, but it looks purple on the website. The Ignition Orange Metallic looks more bronze or burnt orange in the brochure, but on the website it looks more like the old Carousel Red (Orange) that came on the '69 Judge. That is the color I have ordered and I hope it looks more like what is on the website than what is in the brochure.

I loved Carousel Red (exact same color as Chevy Hugger Orange by the way), but I bet the real color is closer to the brochure than the website. It sounds like this is unfortunate for you, but I prefer the "burnt pumpkin" type oranges on modern sheet metal myself. I have a ton of automotive brochures from over the years for reference in painting model cars with real car paints (using a good primer/sealer of course), and the brochures are usually pretty accurate. They tend to be similar to the "paint chips" in paint company reference guides. No matter how the color looks in real life, you're gonna have another sweet ride!

I stopped by the dealer by my work and got a brochure too. He penciled me down for a Magnet Gray GT, premium and sport packages. The guy didn't know anything, so I'll stop by the dealer near my house. He has been very helpful up to now. I just wanted the brochure, he just wanted the sale. He gave me a song and dance that he was only giving out the brochure to people who are ordering the car. I'm guessing he was trying to head off the 16 year old kid who just wants to dream. Kind of put me off though.

Same colours(colors for US) that we have but I have to tell you the Ignition is a burnt orange and nothing like a red and the stealth blue is a lot lighter on the road and looks somewhere between mauve and purple, a bit too loud for my taste but there are some here that like it. The Ignition grows on you and is quite a unique colour and will turn heads if you want the attention.

Phantom is the most popular here but black in a big performance car is a bit ordinary. I think the liquid red is the same as our red hot here and is the pick of the bunch. It is quite a bit brighter on the road and is like a Ferrari red.

If you like orange the ignition will be fine.

Thanks for posting !

I flipped immediately to pg. 17\18.

A couple of items about the description of the behavior of the A6 trans. that are different from the ( substantially similar 6L80 ) A6 trans. in my Corvette

In Sport Shift Mode:

“The current gear is shown in the Driver
Information Center while the transmission
is in the Sport shift mode.”

The Corvette ONLY shows the current trans. gear in DSC mode.

In DSC mode:

“When coming to a stop, the transmission
will automatically shift to First gear.”

The Corvette will downshift ( automatically ) only to second gear.
Not to first, when in DSC.
Though one can manually select first.

Interesting.

Thanks for sharing this! I'm really loving this car more and more.

And I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised and really pleased to see so many Audi-like features on this car. The red DIC on the instrumet cluster, the key FOB, climate control knobs, headlamp controls, etc. I wonder if it will have red LED interior lighting as well. :)

Thanks for the info. I followed the link to the Commodore Brochure which features several good pictures of your Colours :) and it clearly shows that it is more of an orange - which is what I was hoping for. I love it and think I'll be happy with it. I've had a bunch of red cars and trucks and I'm ready for a change. I also checked out the Getting to Know... brochure. Nice! This PDF I stole from someone above states that for the best performance out of the V8 you should use premium fuel, page 19. I thought they were tuning this car for regular grade? It is a non-factor for me as that is what I use now, and the G8 won't have that much worse mileage than my Honda. It may matter to some though.

Unfortunately it will probably look a lot more like the brochure than the web page.

I work in marketing and we have a guy who's full time job is to fly around the country checking the color and quality at the various printers we contract with. But our web developers can only choose colors that won't look too awful on a million different computers. It is not as bad on flat screens, but there is still a pretty huge variation in how color is displayed. I understand that is can also vary between browsers on the same machine.

Unless you have calibrated your monitor with a device such as Colorvision's Spyder, your chance of displaying correct colors is very slim. If you have Photoshop installed, use Adobe Gamma (found in control panel) for a "better than nothing" subjective calibration.
As mentioned previously, much effort goes into getting colors correct when printing.
Don't forget the light source under which you are viewing the brochure will have a dramatic influence. If you are looking at a brochure under fluro lights, such as at a dealer, take it outside and you will be looking at different colors. Take it home and look under incandescent light, the colors change again.

I love the spiel on the last page about winter tires.

"Your vehicle features rear-wheel drive
and may be equipped with “summer
only” performance tires, which offer excellent
handling on dry roads. However,
during winter months, it’s recommended
to switch to winter tires that will provide
additional traction in poor weather conditions.
See your Pontiac dealer for information
about recommended winter tires."

I'm sure they'll be more than willing to sell me an extra set of tires. Can I get an extra set of rims with that too? (some of this is sarcasm, some of it is not)

If that's anything like the Audi/VW, you set a speed that you want to limit yourself to. That way, if you exceed it, you get an audible and visual warning.

It can be helpful at times if you want to make sure that you don't go over a certain speed without having to keep your eyes on the speedo all the time.

It can be done, but a "reputable" shop probably wouldn't do it. It's just like how they don't let videos play (stock) up front anymore. It can still be done, you just have to rewire the ground wire.

Picked up my brochure. I emailed the Internet sales guy and he left one out at the reception area with my name on it since I was picking it up on the way home from work.

Very nice brochure. The sales guy was still there, so I asked him what they were going to get. He said that they were going to 7 cars this year. 1 white, 3 black, 2 grey, and 1 red. He said that only the white is going to be a V6. Also said one black and one grey was already sold.

Finally, said that they should get their first car in two weeks.

Not sure I'm going to like that Panther Black Metallic as much as I thought. All my cars have been black, so I'm hoping this looks better than the paint sample in the brochure.

You set an overspeed limit on the display with the up and down arrows of the display computer, say 70mph and if you exceed the computer generated beeps as you exceed (X130X) oops, I meant 70mph, we work in kilometres here, you can set it to any speed or change it quite easily.

There are heaps of programmable functions that you access from the display controls like all doors unlock, only drivers door unlocks, headlight off delay, interior light delay, lock and unlock horn beeps, speed variable sound system options etc. I guess you have all of these options on other cars sold in the US.

Cruise control is great if your on a stretch of road with little or no traffic, but if you aren't and don't want to keep resetting it, needing to look at the speedometer, overspeed warnings would be most helpful.

GTO owners have all of those functions as well. The first time I passed the O/S setting, I damn near paniced. :gr_jest: That, plus the oil change warning in the DIC. The O/S warning works good....if you turn it on. :D

I wasa told at the dealership it would be quite a while before ignition orange got here .!!!!so decided on the magnetic grey 888#192 instead.love the colour ,maybe my hubby wont get stopped quite so much as he did driving my fushion orange G 6

Dual climate control will be a plus. Like mentioned above, it's Available on the G8 V6 and Standard on the GT according to the latest brochure.

...only if it works correctly.
