Hello,

Does anyone know when they will start the production of the 2009 G8 GT?? I am ready to buy one, but im thinking that maybe i should let the temptation of the 2008 go past and wait for the 2009 as they will have worked out alot of the bugs and problems. And hopefully will have maybe added NAV, XM, and or more power. Also what kinda time frame from when special ordered to delivery at the dealer??

Thanks,

Jeff

Who knows, maybe your patience will be rewarded with the availablity of a GXP model AND a 6 speed manual:hail:

Now that would be a righteous machine.....

I'd like to wait, but I need a full size sedan before 2nd grandchild comes in July and I'm in my dealers que for one. Goin' to get while the gettin's good.

Not worried about bugs. I think these things have been being built in Oz for two years.

There will be 7000 G8 vehicles at dealership around the US by March 1st according to Edmunds.com

That's what I'm holding out for... I'm hoping that retool starts in July and the 2009's start production in August but who knows??
M6 and some other 2009 goodies. The bugs aren't an issue as much as the lack of options for the 2008. I can wait 6-8 months for one, and if they don't have a manual option I'll buy the A6 instead. I'll just sit back and :popcorn2:

June-July is the start of new model years in Australia I believe. I could see the 2008s still being labeled 08s all the way up until Aug. I'm sure someone here on the board knows definitively and will be able to supply details.

Cars are evolving continuously during the model year as suppliers change or a better component is delivered. They run out the old parts and start phasing in the new. So the "bugs" are constantly being worked out.

I'm hoping GM will still give the public what they want, but we'll have to wait and see.

Im ready for a new car..

I think ill lease this car for 2 years and turn around and buy a 2010 model if I still love it after 2 years.

Figure id spend 399 a month for the lease!

400*12 4,800 + 4800

9600 for 2 years thats 1/3 the cost of the car.

400*12 4,800 + 4800

9600 for 2 years thats 1/3 the cost of the car.

Which would be less than half of the residual value left on the vehicle.

However after careful thinking I figure most new cars depreciate at say 23% the first year and 18% the second year. A total of 41% for a 2 year term.

So at $31,500 the residual of a 41% would be (31500-12915 = ) $18,585 - this would be with no down payments too.

$12,915 / 24 months = $538 a month.

Now if you were to put some money down you could have a lower payment but why do that..

I figure that if i was to save the $5,000 that i would of put down that I could potentially make $245 a year in interest. Figure a 4.9% APR CD.

So after having your $5,000 in a CD for 2 years you would have made $245 + $257 = $502

That to me is worth paying a bit more per month to could out ahead. Also if you were thinking of putting more down you would save more.

Hey dltv, you obviously haven't looked at CD rates lately, have you? Good luck finding anything near 4.9% APY for 2 years. 3.9% is much more likely! I know, I work in the business, and the best we offer today is 4.1% APY.

Your right.. I had locked in a CD with Virtualbank at 5.1 or something and its locked in at 6 month intervals.

I just check the dividends and they keep increasing. But CD rates have gone down quite a bit to no surprise with economic times the way they are.

But i think good rates can be found.
https://bank.countrywide.com/landing/cd3.aspx?src=BRCDA001D001 offers 4.45 from the ad. Not bothering to read the fine print other than the 10k needed to open.

And the remark about pulling figures out my butt.. is the same thing the F&I guy is going to do to you when you buy your G8 GT so i guess im just lubing you up.

Also remember that your return on CDs is also taxed like income. So basically 4.5% will end up being 3% after taxes.

I thought that the 2009s were to be made after March 1, and in Canada. Up until then, only 2008s will be made, but in Australia.

'09s start production March 1st, but haven't seen anything on the Canada production thing, except for the Camaro.

Release date for import into Canada, not production in Canada. 08's never passed or never submitted for bumper testing. The G8 will remain sourced from Oz, it will probably not (for a long time) shift production to Oshawa. The only rwd car to be produced there is the Camaro as the Impala is continuing as fwd.

I thought GM's plan was to switch to Canada for production soon after they started making them? Hope they stop this weird tagging process sooon

It was never high in their priority, as proposed (at the time) production of rwd Camaros and Impalas would have taken up a good bit of Oshawa capacity. The "plan" of shifting G8 to Canada I think was more a hope by the CAW. Right now Australia needs the G8 to keep up capacity.

I was at my dealership yesterday, where I was finally able to get a G8 brochure, and the salesman I spoke with said that they would be building them in Canada within a year or so. I asked if that was official from GM, and he just said that was what he had been told. I guess it makes some sense that they would build G8s at Oshawa. I don't think that the plant could be kept busy enough just building Camaros, and if they build the line like the one in Australia, it should be able to handle multiple Zeta platforms on the same line. I doubt that they will pull all G8 production from Australia, but maybe they will end up building the G8 GXP there. I can always hope!

I am getting 4.5 in a savings at FNB.

You have to have a min of 25K in it though.

So when will the 09s be available? I have the cash now, just sold a Corvette. I want an 09 for the metallic red and for XM radio. Or maybe a white one or gray one. I want to see one! Called my home dealer today, they are waiting for one.

G8 won't move to Canada anytime soon, if ever. The G8 and the Camaro are built on two different versions of Zeta, as long as Holden is still building the VE version there will be no move to Canada for the G8. Holden is set to change to the Camaro version of Zeta at the first refresh, after that it would be possible though unlikely.
