I have seen these portholes popping up on everything from a Tercel to an 04 GTO.

A commercial a little while back seemed to make a big deal about that on a Buick. Any idea on what they're actually supposed to be? Are they perhaps outlets to improve engine cooling?

Not sure. Cosmetic I would assume. Probably adhesive.

Not cool unless it's an late 1940s- 1950s Buick

Every cool Buick has port holes.

3 port holes - standard level
4 port holes - upgraded level

The 1987 GNX even has 4 port holes ;)

Buick calls those openings louvers. Yes, a GNX is one of Buick's best and coolest cars.

Nowadays it means something a little different.

3 port holes - V6
4 port holes - V8

So that's a V6 GTO!

I will also put in a vote with the not-cool-unless-its-a-Buick crowd. I most frequently see them on rides in the dub crowd or rice boy bunch. Bass-boat metallic flake paint, optional.

Not cool on a GTO...but I know the guy that has them, and he's cool. He's Australian, so that probably explains the lack of good sense :D

Perhaps you should explain the current Buick meaning behind them!?!:sneaky: Then at the very least he can add one more, ahhh....opening(?) to each side of the hood/fender area?!?:bubbrubb:

There are still 4 "louvers" and can be compared as a modern (1980's) interpretation of the classic port hole.

They used to be on Buicks back in the 50's, a hint at how many cylinders the engine under the hood had. 4 on each side = V8.

Funny thing is I actually know this guy, as he use to run with the Atlanta Goat crowd.....I think they look horrible in person, but he claims they are functional....even if they are functional they look cheap, and just do not look right on the car, but to each their own.

BTW, these aren't stick on for this particular car. The metal was cut and these were inserted. I knew this car pretty well at one time.

I agree. To each his own. I was just wondering if I missed the memo on the latest apprearence mod.

Just needs some stick on hood scoops (at least 3) to complete the look.
