: Got to see/sit in the G8!!!

My bf and I were at the Rolex 24 this weekend and they had 2 G8's on display. The 50cent G8 was there too. They had a black one we sat in and checked out. I sat in the front and the back. I couldn't believe the size of the trunk!

My bf and some of his friends got to push the 50cent G8 up into the fan zone @ Daytona. That car was pretty cool. Kind of sad they have to crush it and it can't be titled in the US.

I was sold before but I am telling you if you haven't seen this car in person you are going to be shocked on how much better it looks.

I am going to try and post up pictures later.

What were your impressions of the interior?
Fit?
Finish?
Materials?
Seat comfort & support?
Thanks,
- Ray

Thanks xcalibersgrl, wow that grass was green, did they paint it in that first pic you took?

Pictures are helpful, and it was the first time to see the empty spare tire compartment. I know the first thing I will do is get a spare tire to fill that area (I'll use one of my snows on a wheel as my spare, and the summer/wheel combo for the winter as the spare tire). I really don't want to rely on spray sealer, nor do I want to do my own flat repair on the road (I will have the tire plug kit that is available for less than $10 in the car though).

Just wondering why the last 2 pics are so small?

What were your impressions of the interior? Great...started getting pretty dirty with all the "foot traffice"
Fit? Have you seen a GTO some of the best fits I have seen
Finish? This wasn't one of the "888" so I am sure there will be slight differences but once again was impressed.
Materials? The leather was nice and soft. The buttons on the steering wheel even impressed my bf.
Seat comfort & support? You sit down in the back seat. My boyfriend it 6'1" and he had plenty of leg and head room in the back.
Thanks,
- Ray

I don't think so it's the infield @ Daytona. You can't see it but there is a air compressor in there. The pics are so small because I "borrowed" them from someone else that went.

Too bad, Holden went to pretty far lengths to make sure the 20" rims for the HSV cars fit in the spare compartment.

Thanks again!

The reasoning is this car was originally produced as a Commodore in April of '07. It was built before the US certification date, and therefore cannot leave the hands of GM without being destroyed.

Fit: is just as good, and in some areas better than the GTO.
Finish: I have some minor, and I mean minor gripes with the finish in some areas, but overall the finish is better than most cars in the G8's price range.
Materials: A big improvement from most cars in it's price range, materials for the dash are soft and rich feeling. Switches don't feel cheap. There isn't that cheap Fisher Price Interior feel that sooooo many car's in this price range give you.
The seats are good, not great, but good. I hope that the GXP will offer better seats with more side bolstering.

How was the paint?

I personally thought that the paint on the GTO wasn't very good.

Which is why my Goat eventually received a new paint job. The paint may be better on the G8, but it was hard to tell since it had/was raining.

The main issue with the paint quality is the EPA requirements in Oz, as they are very stringent and therfore paint quality suffers....it has nothing to do with Holden's QC/QA.

Basically, just take good care of the paint. :) Keep it clean, don't let deposits stay for a long time.

Better than the GTO....I dunno about that--maybe on the fit, but not the finish.

Materials is *not* a big improvement...its a toss up between the G8 materials and the current GP GXP.

I think it definitely has the "cheaper" feel to it.

x2 on the seats.

Sorry to be a dissenter...just my 2 cents. GM could have done a better job...its not a disaster, but its not better than average either.

Ive sat and driven both the monaro (GTO) and the Holden VE SS-V (G8). For me the VE has a far better quality material and fit and finish, I especially love the checkered pattern on the dash. You wont see the dash pattern by looking at pictures, you really have to see it and touch it in person. The dash in all the pictures show a flat plastic surface, this isnt the case in person.
