*Begin rant* It's been fun folks, and I have garnered very good and useful info on the G8 and I thank you for that. But if I see just one more post about how totally f__ked up Pontiac is for not having, ...(right this second).... in no particular order: XM, bluetooth, M6, better colors, different exhaust, more HP, a better price, a GXP, HIDs, ad infinitum, etc., etc. And the same bitches about things that have been covered multiple times in previous posts............well, I'm afraid I'm gonna go POSTAL and start shooting up the neighborhood. I really don't want to do that as I'm only a few weeks away from taking delivery of a new G8 GT that I think will be the best, most fun car I have ever owned.

There are some really great folks in here and I have really enjoyed getting to know folks like DY, ollie, isszy, Ray, Ram and lots of others; you know who you are.

On the flip side, after occasionally bouncing around various forums for over 30 years, usually in search of enlightenment and information on something I am/was interested in, I have to say I have NEVER seen more whiney, spoiled, weepy eyed mommas' boys than have shown up here. *end rant*

I wouldn't ever put down money on a car I hadn't driven, but I do hope to get one in the next year or so when finances should allow.

I can see why you could complain about the complaining (paradox? hypocrisy?), but I think the manufacturers are a lot more likely to take notice of people bitching rather than people just sighing and moving on to another car maker that does offer what they want.

I am willing to wait for a manual, I guess 09 model year, and willing to wait further for GXP manual. But to hold me over I may have to get a GTO, as a lesson on cars with torque and backseats. I won't whine about not getting what I want right away, because I am fairly certain that at some point GM will build what I want. And I can be patient...

Penguin.....I look at it this way. Each time we come back here we like to see new posts, then read said posts and reply if we feel we want to. As far as I am concerned this forum has a high standard of constructive input and a low level of flaming. This tells me the members are mainly cut from the same cloth ( an obvious common interest in the VE/G8 as well as being probably middle class males with a family). I suppose I would be asking a lot of questions as well if I was seriously considering buying a car, especially one that I hadn't seen. Most so far are valid, but I think you are really irked by the amount of times you are seeing the same point raised. Personally, I hope you stick around and keep giving us your opinions.........as Isszy said, we need a balance in here to keep the conversations in perspective. There are STILL a few brand new 2006 GTOs available from dealer inventory and you can bet right now they are very very affordable (I know of a blue one if anyone has interest)

You can even be an enthusiast behind the wheel of a stock base G8 with the V6 and 5-speed auto. Sure, it won't outrun a smilarly powered G6 or CTS with the same engine due to weight. But turn th ewheels through some twistys and I think the G8, even in base trim, will shine. Word on the street is that the base suspension is or has been upgraded to same level as GT. For a few piddling dollars more I will go with the GT, and that will be enough car for me. Motorheadedness is not a disease restricted to those with deep pockets. And at my age I no longer have the unrelenting desire to race for pinks.

i will agree with you penguin, it does get old with people ranting about this and that. but on the flip side, if your anything like me, you want to get what you want out of a vehicle when your emptying your wallet on it. however, ive invested enough time and information gathering on this vehicle to still stick around and say "i will own one" it just may be a year until i find if the m6 is available or not. good post though, its good to know the differences in opinions :D

i agree with this as well to a certain extent, however i would not start out by saying bitter, worthless, old man, and such.(ill mention that i am 24 also so im not favoring one age bracket or another) if we all want to get along in here and have a good time with this vehicle and eachother, we need to keep "labeling" to a minimum. sorry but saying what you did, in a way, puts you in the same boat as he is with labeling. just my .02$... i will leave now :)

No one is forced to come to this forum- we didn't really need a rant for him to leave.

As for the money down thing, my dealer said that they would give your money back if you decide you don't want it. He said he'd have no problem selling it to me or someone else. After we talked and saw I had the GTO, he knew I was serious and didn't even need the cash (he was asking for $100).

As for the car not having every option under the sun, that is pretty common for any 1st year car. They need to throw new stuff at it to keep it interesting. If we had nav, blue tooth, 6,000 hp and a 6 speed manual the first year, what would they do to spice it up? If you don't like it, wait a year or two.

I don't see most of it whining, I see it as people who are passionate about a car. Nothing wrong with that. Complaining about people complaining... thats whining.

However, my rant was in direct response to his ridiculous tirade. I'm fully open to dissent and disagreement. What I won't tolerate is an unstable psychopath threatening to shoot up the neighborhood because he doesn't like what's posted on a car message board! In fact on a lot of message boards I frequent he would have been banned for such antics. If he was unhappy here and planned to leave, he could have just left and saved all the drama.

Bitching and complaining is an important aspect of any message board. It's how many problems get resolved. Another board I am a member of has a member who actually works for manufacturer and they troll the boards all of the time to find out what people like and dislike, and what features they would like to see in the next gen of vehicle. There have been many cases lately (Toyota Tundra) in which the company issues TSBs because the problems were so widespread on the message boards alone.

So my bitches appear to be common. No XM, No Nav, and no HID option. It appears to be a great value for the money, but when you compare your vehicle to a 5 Series these options will be glaring omissions.

We all have our opinions. To a degree, that's what a site like this is about. But when we lose a voice, no matter what that voice says, we still lose a voice. Someday, at some time, that voice may provide something someone is needing. So perhaps we shouldn't be cheering the departure?:confused:

But, in some small way, I actually miss desertgoat. Everyone who is on this board now is part of something special - those people who cared enough about the G8 to get involved BEFORE it was released.

With LS1GTO, people who prepurchased the first batch of GTO's were known as founding members. Maybe there should be a similar classification for those who were here at the start.
