Feel free to post suggestions and possible improvements that could be made to the Cortex tuner.

What kind of performance did you gain from it? Can you def. feel a difference in power?

SRG963,

What changes does your tuner let you do? I can only set mine to 87 or performance. Then I get a quick tune or advance tune. In any of them I only get these options:

RAISE REV LIMITOR: YES OR NO ONLY
RAISE TOP SPEED: YES OR NO
GEAR RATIO CHANGE: HAS A FEW DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO LOOK IN
TRANSMISSION GEAR: ONLY HAS 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 AND THAT'S IT. ALSO IT ONLY LETS ME DO A NORMAL SHIFT A PERFORMANCE SET SHIFT AND SWITCH THEY WITHIN .5 HIGHER OF A REV TO 5.0.
LAST IT JUST HAS THE COOLING FAN TEMPURATURE.

I thought it had some other things like Torque management disengage, (which i have no idea what the fudge that is), or was that what you'll were wanting in it.

thanks,

Honestly, the Superchips tuner is geared towards the stock G8 GT owners as it is now. It will work with mods no problem, but for maximum performance gains, you will want a dyno tune, or at least I would.

Superchips may add mod specific tunes (CAI,OTR,UDP) in the near future, but want customer feedback before moving forward.

I've noticed better MPG average, improved throttle response with more power coming on sooner and the rear tires are really hating life :)

thanks,

Mine has the same functions. With the tune (87 or 91) the TM on the up-shifts will be off. Torque management lowers the power transfer to the tranny on shifts. TM off on up-shifts will give you a nice second gear bark of the tires when it shifts.

But also with no TM on the up-shifts, be prepared when in wet or slippery conditions. You will get sideways quick!

The only change I made in the advanced tune is the top speed limiter, which is now the Superchips value (225).
The rest is set to the Superchips setting.

Yup, same results here, power adder rich.

Please goto the Superchips website and complain about this issue.

I've told them, but it would be good for other customers to as well :)

Ahh, I've heard of these SuperChipTuners :) Superchips was joined up with another manufacture on that one I do believe.

The features you listed should be added IMO. Lets see if they feel the same way.

Cool thanks man, other than that, yup I have noticed the bark while shifting. Especially with the small mist falling here in Fort Worth, TX it's a beast.

Sure does, you just repeat the process and choose stock instead of performance (91) or the 87 octane tune.

Nice Avatar BTW :D

What about requests for an Active Fuel Management (DOD) turn off option so the car does not sound horrible with exhaust? Any complaints/requests on this option?

I wouldn't mind having that.

What about us guys that have already bought them? how do we do updates?

I think updates are done online. That's cool with me. I would like to be able to move around the 4-5 gear setting and 5-6 too.

Also, would the shift firmness be kind of the same as torque management?

Yes, all updates are done threw a icon that you download when you sign up.
Just plug in the Cortex and double click on that icon :)

Well, yeah kinda. I was thinking more along the lines of having different settings for the manual vs drive vs sport modes.

Yup, a 93 tune and getting the A/F to 12.8-12.9 would be a much better tune :)

Let's hope they do this, feel free to email them and suggest this :wink2:

Ok I have another question, is the "superchips" setting the most extreme or just what they think is optimal?

Also I was very proud of my car today, It chirped 2nd for the first time ever with 100lbs in the trunk and a full tank of gas in 80* weather!!!

Yes, the Superchips setting is the Max they think is safe. You can adjust the settings somewhere between the stock and Superchips tune also.

I love the punishment I can now give the tires :gears: Full burn threw second gear looks very nice on pavement :)

Bought mine yesterday. I also have an NEW ERA OTR CAI that is on its way. I will let you know what I think about both together. I will try the tune first and then add the CAI.

Ok, I just visited the Superchips site. So, if I understand, the Superchips tune is built in the little tuner gizmo one buys and that they send you. You plug it in to the G8 somewhere under the dash and that little gizmo allows you to change the tune in the ECM remotely, with a choice of two prepackaged tunes and the option to revert back to stock? Correct? Is it pretty easy to use?

Good call. Superchips is looking at mod specific tunes now for our CAI's, as I didn't see a large enough gain on my dyno run.

They are also working on optional settings for the Torque Management.

Exactly, You plug it in back behind the hood release lever. You turn your key to the on position (but do not start the car) and proceed with the instructions on the screen. Select the tune and settings you want, turn the key back off. Remove key, then wait a second till the Cortex lets you know it's ok to remove :)

Start your car and your good to go. You can flash back and forth from stock to performance tune as many times as you need, for service or adjustments.

I installed this yesterday and was wondering if any of you guys have done anything with the advance settings mode and if so what? Did any changes in the advance mode make a difference to you? I will be installing my New Era OTR in the morning and will let you know what that does along with the tuner. I appreciate your input.

Header tune and/or catback tune after the CAI tunes. I am hoping they will continue to imrprove the tunes moving forward. I expect that it takes time but as long as they are making progress that would be great!

I agree totally. Talk about cornering the market. Alot of people just do CAI, Headers, and exhaust. If they tune for those things you can bet their sales will take off even more than they have. Everyone loves convienience. I know I do! LOL! 10x easier than waiting on equipment to do it yourself and/or waiting to ship your PCM and get it shipped back. Plus the big deposits some require. Imagine if you had a setback (loss of family member, emergency of sorts, etc) and you had to lose most or all of the deposit....OUCH! LOL!

Is the CAI tunes coming out for sure?

I think Superchips has a target market for cars that are pretty close to stock. There’s probably a really small list of modifications that people commonly do to these cars, like CAI and different size rims. Any car with major modifications is way out of the target market for this unit and is better serviced by custom tunes either by shop or buying a different unit like the HP tuner.

All the listed suggestions would be really cool additions to the Superchips Cortex, but to me they seem unlikely based on what I perceive is Superchips target market.

Personally I bought the Superchips Cortex because I do not plan on doing major modifications to my car. Right now it is 100% stock (except of course for the 93 octane tune) and the only thing I can see myself doing in the near future is a CAI. If I decide to do major modifications, I’ll probably purchase the HP tuner because it seems to really open up everything in the ECM/TCM for adjustment (of course you can also majorly frak up your car with it too if you don’t know what you’re doing).

Just my .02 worth
