G8 GXP: The Wait is Almost Over
Like an early Christmas present, the first boatload of Pontiac G8 GXPs is arriving in port this week. Plus, we finally have an official "number" to match with the car...
$39,995
That's the "out-the-door" price for the 415-horsepower monster with a six-speed auto. Want the six-speed manual? Add $695 to that for a total of $40,690. A sunroof is also an option.
No matter which version you choose, you'll be getting the fastest, most powerful Pontiac we've ever shipped off a showroom floor.
Don't take our word. Here's what the media is saying...
“The best Pontiac in Pontiac history just got better.” - autoweek.com
“supercar performance and real world practicality” - jalopnik.com
"[Pontiac G8 GXP] pack's the performance punch of competitors costing thousands more. (hint: Germany never saw this coming)" - Automobile Magazine
“Mention BMW's seminal sport sedan and a Pontiac in the same breath? In this instance, without hesitation.” -Motortrend.com
“There is no better representative of Pontiac's design revolution than the new G8 GXP.” - Kelley Blue Book’s kbb.com
“We're here to tell you – and you can quote us on this – the Pontiac G8 GXP is @#$%&*! Awesome.” - Autoblog.com
After spending a few weeks driving one of these bad boys, we wanted to share a couple of observations that may help you make up your minds to test drive it:
Everything you liked about the G8 GT is still there, plus Bluetooth capability has now been added as standard equipment on the car Don't let the FE3 suspension scare you. It's stiffer than the FE2 on the GT, but you only notice it when you need it. On the road, the ride is still quite comfortable, but those corners just tend to straighten out for you in the GXP.
The six-speed manual is a shorter throw than what you may have experienced in the Trans-Am or GTO.
Yes, it has 1-4 skip shift, but the car's such a torque monster that we usually only use first, fourth and sixth for daily driving, so it's not that big of a deal.
That first boatload will take a couple of weeks to process through Customs and get into the hands of Pontiac dealers, but we've got additional boats on the water, so more cars are on their way in January and February.
Now, we won't kid you. The GXPs are probably going to be a little hard to find at first, but the wait just might be worth it!
OK Ladies and gentlemen, from previous posts we know the port of entry. Now is the time for us to start formulating a plan of attack. Does anyone know anything about the perimeter security at the port? How about anyone with buddies who are customs agents at AMPORT? It seems like we have two options, a full out assault on the port, which means we will need to have a few extra drivers to free enough cars for us GXP fanatics on the board, or, plan B we need a sack full of benjamins to slide to a guard or customs agent to look the other way:drink:
Anyone have any other ideas? Who's in?
